Joining the TGIFriday line-up this fall on ABC.
With the IGS arc wrapped up, I have to say it feels good to get back to the main cast and actual jokes (unless you didn’t laugh at this). I know you want to know what’s up with Larry and Sam. Just wait. I’m getting there. I am spinning a few plates at the moment and it will come together.
It should also be said that I plan to use/feature Jeanie and Dallas more in the coming year. I like them a lot and I think you’ll dig what is coming up in the near future.
The Obsidian Portal Caption Contest is back!
More on Friday!
Commenters: Favorite Sitcom. GO!
as painful as some episodes were How I Met Your Mother holds the #1 Spot for me.
Another great session! Looking forward to the next arcs!
Don’t know if you get them in your part of the world, (I’m in the UK) but for me it’s a toss up between Red Dwarf, Bottom and Father Ted. If you haven’t seen them I seriously recommend checking if you can find a few episodes online to see what you make of them 🙂
I like your tastes 🙂
Ooooo that’s a toughie! Arrested Development is a fantastic sitcom. The original 3 seasons offered crisp writing with a nice fusion of jokes that are only noticeable the second time (foreshadowing of Buster’s hand) around and a plethora of running gags and phrases (Her?). The cast involved with the show really pull it together; David Cross is always excellent so what can you expect? It’s always a delight when I binge watch it.
Two close runner ups would be Malcom in the Middle and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
I’ll see this and raise “My Name is Earl” and “Raising Hope.”
The new one I’m imagining in my head based on your work.
There are animated gaming storylines, and in between it’s a 90s sitcom about nerds.
Not like Big Bang Theory. I mean about actual nerds.
You do know there are different kinds of nerds, don’t you? Gaming nerds aren’t the only people calling themselves nerds.
Dat hat.
…don’t judge me, you were ALL thinking it.
Well duh! We all want Amy’s lucky gaming hat! I’m waiting on Brian to surprise us all with a limited edition one. 😉 Or I’ll just make it myself.
US: Frasier and Seinfeld. Maybe also Friends.
UK: Red Dwarf, Father Ted, The Vicar of Dibley, Black Books, The IT Crowd
Second The Vicar of Dibley. It is so funny, my wife has imposed a three-episode-per-night limit lest it send her into a severe asthma attack.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, hands down.
US: Frasier will always hold a special spot for me, partly because I grew up on it. I like HIMYM too.
UK: Fawlty Towers or Black Books are excellent choices from this side of the pond. (I started to include Black Adder, but that’s less a sitcom and more a sketch show I guess?)
Black Adder is one of my all-time favorites. The Christmas Special is AMAZING.
Glad to hear you’ll be using Dallas and Jeanie more. They’ve always felt like really interesting character that I haven’t really had the chance to get to know too well yet.
Let’s put it this way – the only sitcom that I own the entire series on DVD is M*A*S*H. (Though admittedly, it’s not entirely a sitcom…)
I would totally watch a d20 Monkey sitcom. If Shit My Dad Says can make it on TV then you totally deserve to.
As for favorite sitcom, it has to be The Big Bang Theory.
How I Met Your Mother and The Community are my favourites. Both hilarious.
I used to watch quite a few sitcoms; Perfect Strangers, Step by Step, Family Matters, Boy Meets World, and the Simpsons. I feel a bit old talking about them, but nostalgic also.
Currently I like the Big Bang Theory, as well as Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show.
Blackadder, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Spaced, IT Crowd… does Snuff Box count as a sitcom? Ooh – That’s My Bush!
I knew I was forgetting some: The Young Ones, 30 Rock, Fawlty Towers, Dream On… does Knowing Me Knowing You count – or is there a genre for fake chat show?
Jesus, and the best one of all: Louie! How could I forget Louie? Damn good stuff.
I guess animated sitcoms count, so: early Simpsons, Dr. Katz, the Venture Brothers, Archer.
