Until Death: Part Two
Chapter: Season Four
Characters: Professor James Brant -PC
Professor James Brant, head of the department of history for the University of Massachusetts and medium.
I know that Miskatonic U is usually the way to go with colleges in a CoC setting but I like the idea of spreading the references around a bit. We’ll see more on Monday when things pick up a bit.
Post Schedule UPDATE: I will post the next installment of the Until Death story on Monday. Then, I will be on the road that week for GenCon, with the story resuming on the following Monday where things get back to normal. A momentary hiccup but I think it’s worth it to do my best work.
Is he not supposed to have a visible mouth in panel 5?
Already fixed.
who knew night-kiting would be so… so…
…i don’t even have the words.
( when hiding small star clusters
what could be revealed? )
btw – not miskatonic?
I almost went Miskatonic but thought I would spread it out a little.
This gives me an idea! Have a character in CoC come from MIT! The story would revolve around them using technology to address the paranormal. The campaign would have to take place place at or after 1861 (the founding year of MIT).
or.. just play The Laundry. That’s got that sort of thing in spades already, amongst other awesomeness.
And yes, I realize this can be construed as Ghostbusters. :\
They also did that in an episode of the cartoon. Crazy lady summoned Cthulhu with the Necronomicon.
That’s the first place I went, and I’m already stealing this idea for my next campaign!
I love how much you can tell us about a character with so little. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
I agree! The facial features, subtle observations, actions, the general artwork in each panel make for just as much story and description as the words…which, as we all know, is the whole point of putting things in comic form! 🙂
Ah… I begin to get an idea where the title of the story arc comes from…
Brian, I think this is one of your best comics ever. The tone, the pacing, the deep but not dramatic reveal.
Beautiful.
Thanks!
God damn you. I never read the fucking alt text because I always forget it’s there (even though nearly every comic I read does alt text I still can’t seem to remember its existence). So today I remembered and read it and you’re a bad, bad man Brian and you should be ashamed of yourself. Evil!
Oh, and I thought it said night-knitting at first. And I thought, well, how on earth are you knitting and flying a kite at the same time? is the opposite end of the yarn attached to the kite? Derp.
Speaking of alt text…any love for iPad users? I’m finding as time goes by that I use my desktop machine for less and less.
(It’s also possible that there is a way to se alt text on an iPad and I just don’t know how, so advice would be welcome, too.)
Hijinks Ensue has a button you can click for alt text but I can’t test it on my tablet because it’s upstairs and I’m not, so…..yeah.
XKCD has a mobile site that has a button you can click to view the alt text. Maybe when Brian isn’t so busy with kickstarter and everything else he has on his plate he can look into doing something like that.
“There’s something unwholesome about a [person] flying a kite at night.”
–Marge Simpson
By the gods you’re brilliant. This stuff is so good!
Well that is certainly a nice thing to hear. Thanks, Trentin!
If you want to spend time with a ghost, you have to fly your kites at night.
Or be Bruce Willis…
I see distinct lack of updates this week… That makes me sad…
Sorry. I am knee deep in GenCon prep and shipping Kickstarter rewards (while still going to my day job). If I did this full-time, it wouldn’t be an issue but I do not want to post this story arc half-assed.
It’s cool man, take your time and keep up the kick ass work, I’ll fill this empty time with some less awesome comics haha.
Yeah, it’s ok, take your time. Nevertheless, I miss my weekly dose of awesome 😉 I’m really looking forward to the next updates, love the big RPG arcs.
Don’t fret, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do. Usually you post an update on the page so we know you are delayed but still alive and ok. Good to know those things are still true. 😉
I can dig it man, don’t sweat it. It’s just good to know that pause is only temporary…
I can understand not updating. But having a note saying “no updates this week” would have been nice. Just saying.
I won’t be a jerk here but that comment reads really shitty. I did a post right below the comic with an update. I get it if people overlooked it. Noted for the future. I even took the comment to heart and went in to update the post above with an update.
Well it doesn’t read shitty, it reads the truth. You didn’t post anything until Friday. It left a lot of us wondering where the updates were or at the very least a note from you.
You know what? You are absolutely right.
I let my schedule and workload away from the comic take over and I should have posted a filler/update on Tuesday announcing the delay to everyone. I sometimes forget that not everyone follows my Twitter or FB page feeds. It’s not an excuse and I will not make this mistake in the future.
My apologies.
I offer my apology to you, Tangent. The comment hit me the wrong way (internet) but you are right, I should have made it more clear to everyone. I will not make this mistake again.
I have to admit I’ve been having to force myself not to make snarky passive-aggressive comments this week. I can’t imagine how frustrating it is having to choose between shirking
a) your day job
b) kickstarter rewards
c) the comic
You don’t have time for all of these, but it isn’t always easy for people to remember this. I know I would have been going nuts if I wasn’t following you on twitter @d20monkey.
I know it hurts to hear the little comments on a late comic, but it really is an expression of how much we’re loving your story. I have been biting my tongue all week because I really love this story.
I don’t know. I guess I’m a little different than the people demanding to know “WHY NO UPDATE,” and have something called patience. I simply figured something had come up and the updates would resume once it’s settled.
If you can’t handle a little a delay in the free service that takes you no effort to get to or enjoy partaking in, then shut it and keep it shut. The only thing it has cost you is maybe five minutes of your life checking this website every day.
Finally, Grag, saying how well you’ve done not making passive-aggressive comments is a passive-aggressive remark in itself. For the record, so is saying that Brian “shirked” any of his duties. So is talking about how “crazy” you would have gone not known. The only thing you left out is a “Just sayin’,” at the end of your comment.
I don’t know, he looks more like a Small to me!
