Until Death: Part Eight
The Knights of Salem are a fanatical group of witch hunters (see also: lunatics) who began operations shortly after the first Salem witch trials in 1692. I say “first” because in Innsmouth Garden Society continuity more than one series of trials occurred. The second “purge” happened secretly in 1705 and a third in 1807 (leading to the near destruction of the Knights at the hands of the IGS as the ladies stepped in to save the falsely accused).
The hatred between the two groups runs deep and the Knights have changed for the worse over the years, operating in secret and enslaving/employing dark casters to “fight fire with fire”. In their fanatical view, they will burn in hell for using dark powers but the greater good must be maintained.
It would appear that The Librarian is the estranged daughter of Mr. Barrows. More on this later…
“I said bang, so why aren’t you falling down?”
I love that you include some lore about the Knights of Salem.
Please don’t take this as a criticism. In the third panel, the only character I can think of with a hat is Doctor Stevens, but that figure appears to have two arms. I’m probably being overly sensitive. This is a fantastic arc! If anyone says otherwise, I’m afraid they’re in the minority.
I think it fits that you don’t cut to the table for IGS. CoC is more about storytelling from what I hear. Sadly, never had the chance to play.
Thank you for continuing to share with us your wonderful talent.
GAH! You are 100% correct, Josh! I DID draw two arms out of habit. Thank you very much for the heads-up. I’ll get that fixed and posted up.
I agree that CoC is more about the in-game than table antics. I highly recommend giving it a try someday, if at all possible.
Did anyone else read the “Get dow-” in an Arnold Swartzenterminator voice?
“Come with me if you want to live! Hurry! Get to the chopper!”
Strangely enough, I can now see that being in the part nine. What has been seen cannot be unseen!
Now that’s just no way for an insane witch-hunting hobo wizard to talk to his keeper-of-eldritch-lore ghost daughter. For shame.
DAD, I told you that we’re married. Totes not a harot lover here.
Or a harlot “over” here. But harlot-lover sounds good too…
In the explanatory blog text it says “the ladies stepped in t0”, as if you’ve hit a zero instead of letter ‘o’. I’m sorry if this seems like I’m picking fault (again), I do genuinely love your comic, but I used to do proof-reading for a living and old habits die hard unfortunately 😉
Hah! It’s cool, Matt. I just corrected it. Thank you for the heads-up.
These folks must have the most awkward family reunion events.
“I brought the potato salad. Did you like it?”
“Abomination!”
“Oh. Sorry. You ate some fried chicken, I saw.”
“HARLOT.”
“Want to go play horseshoes?”
And this is why I hate you…I love the comics that include the life of all the characters and I equally love the arc involving Karthun and now I am loving this story arc as well. In a perfect world each comic would have it’s own page and be updated daily, but I guess I will take what I can. Great comic’s I’m really glad I stumbled across them!
If a day comes that I can do this full-time, I want to either do a second comic or possibly go 5-days a week. Perhaps someday in the future.
