The Descent
Chapter: Season Ten
And here we are.
Edit: There was an initial issue with the way WordPress handled the large file, but the Comic Easel dev reached out with some help and now all is well! Full-size and behaving as it should be!

Damn me, that comes across awesomely terrifying. Nicely done.
Holy shit, it’s the inverse of creativity: Despondence. The depression creeping on Sam the whole time. The living embodiment manifest within the narrative.
This depiction is so powerful and so well thought through in its portrayal! Absolutely incredible.
It is reminiscent of when you first face Giygas in EarthBound.
I had a feeling. We all had a feeling. But this is going to get bad. I wonder, now, what will happen next.
for those who might have trouble reasing the faded text:
Creator
Finally
Where you belong
with Carlos freaking out makes me think its his magebound’s Character’s elemental
This was my thought. If not. It has to be something with karthun
Colors seem to match up, too.
I may just not be remembering but I don’t recall anything particularly nefarious about Gul’ren’s elemental, so while the colors do match up and it could be seems kinda weird for him to suddenly be the villian. My personal bet is still on the Grin, the group left him to fester in the campaign after the TPK, Carlos’ character was also a driving force in the hunt for the Grin (even possibly pushed the campaign that way, i don’t think we ever found out what the note he passed Sam at the very beginning was), so he’d have a bit more of a connection to this villian, and it is a definite villian. Either way or even something else can’t wait to see where this goes.
Lurker here, first time Reply Guy: Carlos is seeing his dad. Getting a real Dementor/Boggart vibe of “seeing your worst fear”/”psychic vampire”. Not that it means “Creator” is a necessarily a lie though.
Like in this skinhorse arc, there are many ways creators can be
http://skin-horse.com/comic/meantime-there/
hmm I took the creator line at Sam not Carlos, would be interesting if it was at Carlos, but my read was more like *sees Sam walk through the portal* “Creator” *Sam is dragged into this mind trap/other dimension/whatever is happening in the final panel*, if it is Sam not sure if it means his creator, or just a creator being the narrative wielder (and thus the biggest threat to this baddie presumably)
That page is utter perfection and terror. One of my favorites ever of any series
ffffuuuuuuuuuuu
I think it may be manifesting differently to different people. And I think Calos may be seeing his abusive father.
I know this is not the most important bit in here but can we talk about the fact that Carlos is either dead or dying? HE AGED LIKE 20 FUCKING YEAR JUST BY LOOKING INSIDE
40 years at least.
Brian – Bravo on this amazing page – this conclusion has been such a ride and can’t wait to see how you bring it to a close.
My guess on the identity of the Big Bad is… Lord Graymane Douchebro! By my perspective, it makes sense. I know that he came in well before Karthun was a thing, but Sam started training on the Narrative around the time he was in the picture. In fact, he had just passed Larry’s second ‘trial’. LGD, as I will henceforth refer to him as, was created at another extremely low point in Sam’s life, specifically when he had feelings for Mel WHO JUST WALKED BACK INTO THE PICTURE! It was his feelings of betrayal when she had sided with her boyfriend after he beat the shit out of Sam that led to the attempted murder of the entire D&D party via his super-powered OC. While LGD’s full power set isn’t known thanks to Brett’s quick thinking and a nat 20 on Mel’s part, he was portrayed as being incredibly high-level and had access to necromantic abilities. And as some people have been using the color of the magic as an indicator for their own guesses, LGD’s magic is almost the exact shade as shown in this and recent pages. And also, the figure said ‘creator’ and LGD IS one of Sam’s creations, for better or worse. Although I will admit, I don’t know why Carl is being so affected by it.
Link to LGD is right here: https://d20monkey.com/comic/revealed/
I like this speculation.
Welcome home, such as it is. This squalid hamlet, these corrupted lands, they are yours now. And you are bound to them.
Is that a quote? Because that’s a hell of a line and I want to read that book now.
It’s from _Darkest Dungeon_, a turn-based Roguelite RPG. I urge you to play it if you are curious.
So I remembered a bald guy with glowing eyes in the game that Brett ended up having Carlos character, Gul’ren, jailed for stepping through the doorway. During one page, Gul’ren states that he and his elemental did not want to be bound, but at that point understood that they needed each other.

But I had a feeling I saw the bald guy with purple eyes before that though. So I remembered when Clive was recruited by the current big bad.

I have to now wonder even though Jeanie was the DM at that point of next characters, did Sam take part in helping Carlos with the character build since Sam knew the magics of Karthun better than anyone. Also Gul’ren’s powers were shadow, and Sam was in a dark place at the time.

Also this would be the second time that something about his creation has shattered his world.
https://d20monkey.com/comic/shattered-possibilities/
Also the Magebound class that has been posted on the site for like forever now, makes me believe that the elemental has returned.
Also as far as Officer Clark goes, looks like this is the second time she has stepped in when Sam needed rescuing. The Lord Douchebro had the same glowing eye style, once again when Sam was in a dark place.
Huh, I’d forgotten we actually saw the crystal with the shadowy figure before.
Nice dive, yea there’s a lot of connections, I will note Gul’ren came into existence in the comic after elsewhere (granted right after), but arguably he was made post baddy showing up, doesn’t discredit it with how the Narrative works but something to consider. Also this is at least the third time Sam’s been shattered by Karthun/realizations around it (assuming which seems likely this is Karthun related)

I think I totally missed this panel at together, thanks!
This is awesome Brian! I didn’t see the text in the mist until I downloaded the image and was checking it out, but there it was, plain as day. I just straight up missed it in the original because I scrolled by too quickly I think. Really great panel!
Um…damn!
This needs to be looked at again and again – I’ve just seen the crack appear across the front of the crystal…
I’m getting a Lovecraftian vibe. are we getting crossover into IGS territory?
I gotta say, approaching an immensely powerful evil magical entity/artifact while your magic expert is still on the other side of the portal was a bad move and exactly the sort of shit your typical adventurer party would get up to.
THE STREAMS HAVE BEEN CROSSED!
