Brian, this is an intervention. We are here because we care about you, but you have a problem. It started off fun, a mouseover cover band joke here and there, and we all had a good laugh. Lately, however, it’s started getting out of hand. I can’t even tell what this one means anymore. HOW IS THIS A BLUEGRASS/TRANCE HENRY ROLINS COVER BRIAN! HOW!?
Ooh, Higgins isn’t going to be happy about that (and there was much rejoicing)
Wondering how the King will take it…hoping for a hearty laugh and some sort of proclamation of Jeanie having spirit, and not how he initially reacted to Brett’s first outburst against him.
To be fair, Brett’s first reaction to him was not to listen to him and shout at him directly. And it was a little bit like a noble shouting at the King, the way the Mantlebarer relationship seems to work. Jeanie seems to be shouting at Higgens instead of him, he’s passively mentioned in the comment.
What if Brian went totally Game of Thrones and just has Krampus whisper into Brett’s ear, “The Lannisters send their Seasons Greetings…”, then the King of Seasons executes Jeanie and all of Brett’s friends and family for their insolence? That’s when Brian surprises us all by shifting the focus of the comic to the Adventures of Emma, and the story of her vengeance on the Holidays.
Oh my god I just noticed that after your comment! And it’s not just her fist her whole body has a glow coming off of it! I’m starting to wonder if there might be a mantle for the Mrs. Clause
… Oh, holy crap, that’s a good point. I really want that to be true, but why would Brett’s mom have left, then? Unless she needed to raise Brett and gave up the mantle… Man, now I’m overanalyzing this.
Oh hell yes, Jeanie is awesome. Even the King of Seasons and Higgins should know, no matter how powerful he may be a woman scored is his worst nightmare.
Words can’t describe how happy this page makes me. Also Jeanie’s got the same aura around her that Brett has. Does this mean we’ve got the new Mrs Claus? I for one hope so.
I agree with you! Although she doesn’t get the PR Santa without Mrs Claus is a jolly dude trying to organize a major gift giving operation that makes Apple look like a road side fruit and veggie stand. What could go wrong with that 🙂
Why did the hindbrain just go “Hold on, Delenn, Sheridan just arrived for his part of the test?” with the sexes reversed? So, totally going to call that this is a test – of whether Jeanie was worthy of dick-kicking her way to stand at Brett’s side as Mrs. Claus. (And if I’m wrong, well, hey, I got to use a B5 reference anyway. Win-win.)
woooooo!!! How great would it be if Jeannie kicked the hell out of the so called King of Seasons and everyone is like “buhwuh” then Mother Nature, Venus, and other goddesses show up say they have her back now go curb stomp Higgins
So…
A mortal is willing to do battle with the various holiday mantle-bearers in support of the Claus?
Yeah, if I’m the King of Seasons, I see that as a sign and discorporate Higgins after confirming Brett as the mantle-bearer.
Each mantle-bearer needs to own the position, both good and bad. The King can’t have a Claus that neglects the North Pole operation, but at the same time, he can’t get rid of a Clause that instills the level of loyalty and love that Brett does.
Higgins is n for a rude awakening. And if he keeps it up, Brett might be in line to “retire” from the Claus mantle in 30 or 40 years right into the Crown of Seasons
The only thing I could see, if the glowing was intentional and not just decorative, is that the mantle found it’s “Mrs Claus” as well. After all, what is Santa without the missus?
It’s about time someone pointed out that Higgens is an evil prick who is up to no good. In my mind at least taking Brett’s mantle is likely just his first step in a plot to overthrow the King of Seasons himself.
I have to wonder if part of the whole “year of isolation” wasn’t also designed as a test partially for the prospective “Mrs. Claus” to see if she had what it takes to be the wife of “Santa”.
After all, Brent has a claim to the “Claus” mantle by birthright but the “Mrs. Claus” for each generation has to be found and the person who would become the mother to a new generation’s “Santa” would have to be pretty damn special in her own right.
After all, the woman in question has to be able to handle potentially long separations from her husband (when he is buried in work or out traveling the globe), be able to handle the isolation of living at the North Pole, and still remain loyal to both the man as well as the “ideal” that he represents.
Oh yeah…that elf’s getting drop kicked to the south pole. And given the look on her face and the glow, if the King’s not careful, we’ll end up with a Queen of Seasons….long may she reign.
Actually think Higgins is about to get an unpleasent surprise by the king.
Brett was sentenced to remain for a year… not from one Christmas to the next… an ol’ higgy picked him up before Christmas… so no rule or probation broken
To be fair, Sam’s fall happened real life wise in November. I don’t know when that’s supposed to be for comic time, if it’s later or not, it’s suggested it’s about that time because he was told, “It wouldn’t make Brett come back quicker.”
It’s possible Brett went to visit him back then, and Higgens has been keeping this in his back pocket to make a spectacle.
I think this is the comic that an old GM shared with me that started me reading D20 Monkey. Mostly because the “cockholster” sounds familiar. It really is a great word.
(I decided to read it through from the beginning after the story concluded)
HOVER-TEXT: “Who’s First to Get Their Dick Kicked” is my bluegrass/trance Henry Rollins cover band

Two people here are terrible at interventions.
you apparently have never listened/watched Henry Rollins perform then if you have to ask how that can be a cover band name.
I love that one! Good one!
Love this band. When will the T-shirts come out?
I just want to know how you find the time for all of these bands, a comic, and everything else.
I’m magical.
+1

But we’ll see Wednesday.

I’m almost hoping that the mantle bearer for Gaia or Mother Nature steps up and claims Jeanie as her successor.
She has clearly stepped up as Mrs. Claus (the glowing). Having the mantle of Gaia would probably be a conflict of interest.
I love how Jeanie’s fist has a slight glow to it!
Oh my god I just noticed that after your comment! And it’s not just her fist her whole body has a glow coming off of it! I’m starting to wonder if there might be a mantle for the Mrs. Clause
They probably share the Mantle. Always two there are…
Higgins is going to suffer so much for that “Clauscubine” statement.
She is so enraged, that she is now a living battery of power, no matter what KIng says, she is gonna rip Higs several new ones
Yes, you could even say she looks…
*sunglasses*
Radiant.
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Yeah, you tell ’em Jeanie!
@Brian There’s a double “your” in the first panel.
Never mind, you got it. 🙂
I’m pretty sure that Brett’s not even trying to hide the raging boner Jeanie just gave him.
Nope. Grinch hearts aren’t only thing growing three-sizes…
Mom and Dad aren’t looking at Jeanie, they’re looking at it off panel.
You… are a bad person.
Yes. Yes I am.
Cue George Takei “Oh myyyyyyyyy.”
+3
This is great. I hope she ends the little turd smear.
Honestly, my first thought on seeing her building glow and the utterly shocked looks on Brett’s parents?
“Huh. There’s two halves to the Claus mantle, aren’t there?”
The fact that the snow pattern on her dress is also glowing doesn’t hurt.
… Oh, holy crap, that’s a good point. I really want that to be true, but why would Brett’s mom have left, then? Unless she needed to raise Brett and gave up the mantle… Man, now I’m overanalyzing this.
oooooohhh this gun be GOOD!! *grabs popcorn*

What makes you think Santa is jolly without Mrs. Claus? Knowing the naughty girls notwithstanding?
Also magical Nazi pedophile is my new favorite insult.
I dunno “Shut your smug cockholster” is pretty good too.
…..that glow…oh shit. could it be… FRAUWEIHNACHTSMANN!!!
>>>>>> Pause
<<< Spin
<3 Jeanie . . . The King will know who is Boss 🙂 Sqeeeeeeeeee
Whahaha You GO GIRL!
Words cannot describe just how much I’m squeeing and “Hee”ing over this page.
HEE
I’m hoping its going to turn out that EVERYBODY hates Higgins; and ‘Don’t murder Higgins for a year’ was the actual test for Brett.
Why did the hindbrain just go “Hold on, Delenn, Sheridan just arrived for his part of the test?” with the sexes reversed? So, totally going to call that this is a test – of whether Jeanie was worthy of dick-kicking her way to stand at Brett’s side as Mrs. Claus. Brent: i love this woman
his parents: holy crap Brent you better marry this one
Is Jennie the new mantle-bearer for Kick-a-Dick day (August 9)?
woooooo!!! How great would it be if Jeannie kicked the hell out of the so called King of Seasons and everyone is like “buhwuh” then Mother Nature, Venus, and other goddesses show up say they have her back now go curb stomp Higgins
I love the way Brett is looking at Jeanie in the last panel.
YEA same

FINALLY! Gods I hope Higgins will get what he’s got comming for him.
She’ll make an excellent “Mrs. Mantlebearer.”
It’s about time someone pointed out that Higgens is an evil prick who is up to no good. In my mind at least taking Brett’s mantle is likely just his first step in a plot to overthrow the King of Seasons himself.
Brett…WIFE THIS WOMAN!~
pretty sure thats what his parents are thinking here
Bluegrass Henry Rollins…*thunk*

All things that Jeanie just did in spades.
…also note.
The “Glow” first appeared on Jeanie a few strips ago back in “Better Late Than Never” when Brent looked at her in person for the first time in a year.
Holy hell, this is so damn awesome. CANNOT WAIT TO SEE HOW THIS PLAYS OUT.
Oh yeah…that elf’s getting drop kicked to the south pole. And given the look on her face and the glow, if the King’s not careful, we’ll end up with a Queen of Seasons….long may she reign.

I like the way you think! I’d like to subscribe to your newsletter.

#smugcockholster should be trending.
YES!
That is all.
love her much so wish i could jump in and help kick some ass xD
I feel like Jeanie ought to get a little Narrative juice.
“Flesh to stone, Higgins. No save.”
That didn’t really work out very well when Sam tried it.
Hot.
that was the moment Bret decided to propose
