– There went the Game Haus so no more competition for our guys (supposing they all live through this).
– And two bodies went flying out in that explosion. So Lee’s likely as hurt as Trevor.
And a third… I don’t believe that Klaus is the power behind Clive any more. Klaus was at best on par with Brett and Clive here is throwing around more power than Klaus could manage. This is King of Seasons kind of power. So this is something on par with the King and if that’s the case, then I absolutely believe that the other mantle bearers and their families are under attack as well. Clive’s pissed with Brett but the one he truly hates for failing him and being (in his eyes) unworthy of his service is the King of Seasons.
A counter theory. Maybe it was Klaus INITIALLY? Klaus gave him the power of HIS mantle, and then Clive went around destroying other mantle bearers. And with each one destroyed, he gained the power of their mantle. Kinda like Highlander. But that’s only a theory. I also don’t think Klaus’s mantle and Brett’s are equal strength. It was touched upon in earlier comics, but Brett’s version of the mantle was initially rather weak. It’s why he had to stay at the North Pole for a year.
I’ve seen some interesting stuff in my time in insurance. Still, I’ve never had a client walk in and say, “I need to file a claim. A guy who used to work for Santa just blew up my place.”
Clive’s power is, as others have pointed out, well beyond that of a normal rival to a mantle bearer. He destroyed the Easter Bunny with ease, and certainly outstrips anything Brett has faced before. It’s not unreasonable to compare his power to that of the King of Seasons, as others have done.
So where would he acquire such power? From what benefactor?
Harebrained Theory: The King of Seasons oversees traditions and mantle bearers that are relatively modern concepts. One could even say they’re seasonal upstarts. While Clive served Santa Claus, Clive is undeniably a purist and devotee of tradition. Is it possible that his benefactor is the precursor to the King of Seasons? A former ruler of seasonal holiday tradition from an older age, dethroned by the King and his supporters in favor of modern replacements, banished to a frozen wasteland, who is seeking to reclaim his their throne?
I’m Mister White Christmas
I’m Mister Snow
I’m Mister Icicle
I’m Mister Ten Below
Friends call me Snow Miser
What ever I touch
Turns to snow in my clutch
I’m too much!
I think it makes sense. We don’t know much about the being that recruited Clive aside from their desire for revenge and mystical color scheme. I’d agree that the power level involved is way past what we’ve seen out of any single mantle bearer.
I’d like to pee a little as a free action, GM.

Nooooo! Not Trevor!
Two observations…

He did kill the Easter mantlebearer a while back. It’s entirely possible this is a scheme he’s been at for a while

Yet. It hasn’t happened yet.
Dun dun DUN!
You think Clive took out the Spirit of Thanksgiving? If so, it must have been rough. I mean, he’s no jive turkey.
I like you. You’re fun.
You really “stuffed” that one in there.
It’s all just gravy
Thanks. I started out overthinking that turkey punchline, but then I decided to just WING it!
Crap.

If so, who would that be?

That song is now going to be stuck in my head for a week.
Liking this. Reactionary traditionalist patron.

Brian – do you do any (attack/save) rolls while you’re story building? I’d be interested if you would let some things actually fall to the dice.
Damn.. He really brought down the haus… uh.. I’ll see myself out…
Is this a “game” to you? Oh, wait, yeah, nevermind.
*eyes narrow*
By Gygax and Tolkien! This has gotten crazy!
Wow… Ok…
This guy really has a thing against game stores, doesn’t he? 😐
Villains who can’t even bother to touch the ground are so pretentious.
Fits Clive, really.
The King Of Seasons: “Death is too kind for the crimes you have committed.”
Me: “Yeah, well, Your Spaceship, you should’ve been more fucking kind.”
Does this officially make him a Dark Elf, now?
