Donnie and Trevor just totally Good Cop/Bad Cop’d her.
Sorry for the late post. It was a long night under a deadline and I am running on about an hour of sleep. So now, I am going to go fall on the bed.

Sleep well, good sir. You’ve earned your rest!
Good night, Brian. Good work. Sleep well. I’ll most likely kill you in the morning.
I love this comment…
WUUUV! TWU WUV.
We’re watching you sleep.
Ah… catharsis. Hope you have a good nights rest! You’ve earned it.
I love Mel’s reddened cry nose.
I have this odd feeling.. she is calling someone close to him to expose his secret in hopes they can accept him. A Father mayhaps? (I don’t think anything would fix him like his daddy accepting him)
By the by, I have something for the people saying that everything’s all better and that he’s overreacting.
I mean, he is taking it the wrong way, but still. It’s not exactly all great.

dafuq did I just read. seriously, Russia? with all the fucked up porn they have? good lord.
I’m not sure how relevant homophobia in Russia is to a story taking place in the states. If someone was talking about sexism, would you link to a story from Iran as “evidence”?
Assault = police being called. Too often we Americans fall into the “John Wayne” syndrome of thinking we can handle anything ourselves. We can’t. It would do my heart good to see that “troubled” bully wind up spending hard time for the various assaults we’ve seen him do.
I don’t think John Wayne syndrome applies here. Sam never did anything to handle his situation….he didn’t “get” Grey back. There’s little bravado after the initial beat down.
If this happened to me, I doubt I’d report it for the simple fact that if I did press charges…Dude’s gettin out at some point…I’d be too afraid of reprisal.
There are 100 different reasons people don’t go to the authorities over things.
Look at rape…I read something like 46 out of 100 are reported to the police.
May be a bit of a stretch, but if someone is afraid, ashamed, or just unable to come to terms to what happened…even with something as serious as rape…I can completely understand why it wouldn’t be reported.
That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking! Grey beating up Sam back there? That’s full-fledged battery!
I mean, why the hell do we even pay taxes to gov’t for protection (it really does sound like a gang racket doesn’t it?), anyway?
Brian’s awesome in rounding out his characters, even the douche-bag ones, though. Great authorship there to learn about the BG, even if they’re no excuse.
“Mabelline shattering bitch slap”! Dude, where do you think this stuff up? Priceless!
Yeah, I thought that was an amazing line.
I was a bit confused here with Trevor’s first two word balloons in the second panel (they seemed WAY out of character for him) till I realized he was speaking as Grey. Did this confuse anybody else?
Not sure how to solve that one. Maybe put quote marks around the bits where he’s being Grey, to indicate he’s talking in someone else’s voice?
Oh, and one other thing — “Maybelline shattering bitch slap” is freakin’ hilarious, but it’s spelled “Maybelline”. “)
(gods, my spelling pickiness is really getting out of control)…..
cheers,
Phil
No, he’s speaking as/about himself there, but as Brian pointed out below the strip he is taking the role of “Bad Cop” in this situation. Hence when it seems out of character for him.
Exactly.
Gahhh, usually I commit virtual suicide when I interpret an author’s intent that badly.
Trevor’s never seemed that down on himself before, plus the angry look on his face made me think that if he WAS talking about himself, he must really loathe that aspect of his character. It just seemed really out of kilter for him.
Sorry I got it so wrong!
cheers,
Phil
This is awesome Brian and while it might seem out of character for Trevor, having been in Mel’s shoes I know sometimes it’s needed. So I commend you entirely.
Also I agree with those above me, Mabelline shattering bitch slapping is an amazing concept.
Sometimes it takes a good friend yelling at you to realize you’re being kind of a dunce. I’ve been on both sides of the situation .. Glad to have some friends who are brave enough to tell me when I’m being ridiculous. Glad Mel has that friend too, hahaha.
Eager to read the next strip. HEAVY STUFF, KUPO
I hope it is not the police. While I see a lot of advocating for ‘reals’ I have a hard time taking that stance in a world where Santa Claus and the Dungeon Master are real individuals. I would far rather see it be her calling Grey just as Pops “smote his ruin upon the mountain.”
How the hell does the existence of magical shit change that? They aren’t in high school anymore, and in the adult world the cops should have been called after the first time. I can still scarcely believe that they weren’t; he basically assaulted a shopkeeper in his place of business! Even if Sam’s too much of a pussy to call the cops on him, Pops certainly should have – we’ve seen that he’s willing to stand up to the jackass. Hell, in rougher neighbourhoods, trying what he did would get your ass shot! How Grey has survived this long is a total mystery; if there’s a reason he gets away with things, he should be dreaded locally. Sam mouthing off to him at the signing would have been the height of stupidity.
Oh snap! Thats some good lines. And thank you brian i hope you get sleep. Your dedication to the comic in the face of exhaustion is commendable.
Great comic as usual! Sleep well!
