In their defense, I can see where they’re coming from.
“Look. This isn’t just a side gig. It’s not just for a laugh. You ARE Santa Claus. You ARE Christmas. The Mantle and Duties need to come first. While you can probably find a balance in the future, for now, you gotta show that you got this, that we can rely on you. You’re on probation. Don’t fuck it up.”
Of course, given that the King of Seasons was in Winter, this message was delivered via express beatdown-mail.
Higgens is expressing “You’re about to fuck it up. Don’t do that.” Though given his personality, it’s expressed as “Rules are rules, no exceptions.”
Which is why it’s a real bummer that we never got to see Brett explore the King of Seasons’ offer to discuss it in the springtime when he was in a better mood.
See that just doesn’t track though. it’s like they’re saying “hey you’re going to be all about love and giving and compassion and that stuff so the first thing we want you to do is reject and abandon the people who you love and who love you” I don’t buy that line for a second
I don’t think it’s really about abandoning the people he loves and care about, he needed to show that he has the commitment to do this. He’s not going to be forced away from them forever, but Santa’s immortal and powerful. He needs to show that he can put aside his usual Brettness and be Santa Claus for an extended period of time, show he can do everything. Not just show up and do the job for one day and then leave.
Yeah, but this isn’t just popping over to visit on a whim; his closest friend has been seriously injured. That’s cause for an exception if ever I heard one.
So that means, once Christmas has passed, you aren’t safe anymore, Higgins. I would watch what you say to the guy who can, and will gladly slaughter you as soon as his probation is over.
They wouldn’t let him bring anyone when his probation began. It’s all a question of whether it’s December 23 in the comic, too. If it is, just wait until tomorrow.
I don’t think it is. If it was, there probably wouldn’t be a ball going on, and I don’t think he’d been in a hurry.
It’s probably around… late November, if I had to guess? Maybe early December, when the Arc started. Because Sam broke his leg getting down the decorations “early”?
Specifically, “before turkey”, so definitely not December. Some time during November, probably. I think Trevor would have said something about it if he was trying to skip Halloween too.
It’s been a while, but wasn’t Brett kind of an expert/asshat with Rule-Fu? I’d love to see him exercise some of his Munchkin/Rules lawyer tendencies to beat Higgins at his own game.
so Clive and the King of Seasons want the embodiment of love and charity and compassion to reject those he cares about…. so when will the characters in this comic realize that they’re evil and want to corrupt Brent or force him to quit so they can install Klaus on the throne? because i want to see that smackdown
I’d say the King of Seasons isn’t. This is Clive being Clive, and reminding him he’s not allowed to go anywhere. Clive is a Lawful Good, follow the law to the letter kind of guy. I imagine that the King probably has more compassion and would be willing if asked.
Maybe not in winter when he’s shriveled up, dying, and tired, though.
more like Lawful Neutral, the Goods have more compassion. The Neutrals are letter of the Law for the laws sake. whether the law is good or bad it’s still the law.
HOVER-TEXT: I based Clive on a math teacher I had in Junior High. I hear his voice when I write his dialogue and I hate him even more.
Did your math teacher have a monocle?
And if not, would it have made you hate him more or less?
He reminds me of Higgins, the pompous prick from Magnum PI.
How is Higgins going to look with a fur-cuffed boot sticking out of his ass?
Festive?
I foresee a dead elf here pretty soon…
i have a feeling we are gonna see a tied up Higgins here soon…
hope higgins he enjoys the coal works once brent fully takes over
Maybe Krampus could use an elf for help with his sewage bucket….
I hear elves are excellent for beating naughty children with. Hard enough to hurt, soft enough not to do actual damage.
I regret appointing this asshat.
All Sam wants for Christmas is a lifetime supply of Vicoden. 😉
That’s cold. Even coming from the Incarnation of Winter’s representative.
I’m thinking that even The King Of Seasons will think that is going too far.
EXACTLY what I was thinking. Brett sends an expedited message to the big guy that Higgins has proven to be ANTI-Christmas Spirit.
omg i hate that little shit including the so called king of seasons

oh sorry, Clive has spoken. I guess that means we can’t hide stuff him in the closet
Higgins has a really punchable face.
Well, I can’t imagine how Brett will get around that restriction.
*coughcoughhe’llbringSamtotheNorthPolecoughcough*
Oh, sorry, something got stuck in my throat.

Brett! It’s the 24th in Australia! You can go help Sam. …What? Higgins said the 24th. He never said where it had to be the 24th.
