yarrr..what these gents have said. i was about to make an ultra magnus joke (regarding Jeanie and the passing of the campaign notes/Matrix). but then i saw this. and it was like ‘all is well with the humor’
This might be a bit of a shot in the dark, but here’s what I’m thinking:
We never actually found out what the deal was with Dove, Dallas, and Mysterious Limousine Person at the end of the Dungeon Run arc last year. It doesn’t seem particularly likely they would get tangled up in the Christmas/supernatural side of the story, but anything’s possible…
So a dark Door with mysterious purple text address him…and then reminds him he’s not a steward of winter. this new ambiguous figure seems to have a sense of humor. I wonder whom it might be? Perhaps something evil? perhaps someone who mastered the darkness who want to just screw with him. I dunno. All I know is that the visual opening for this, intentional or not, is as dramatic as it is funny to look at.
Is this really the start to another Christmas arc? ugh… I appreciate the fact that last March’s Christmas arc was something personally important to you, but come-on man. It’s not even Thanksgiving. Not to mention we’re still recovering from the 2 month long Christmas arc you did before. What ever happened to this comic being about D&D games and dice rolling?
Gunther, if you are not happy with the stories I am telling there is nothing I can do about that. I tell the stories I want to tell, gaming-related or otherwise.
I agree Brian, nor am I particularly telling you what to do straight up. I was simply commenting on the fact that for a comic called d20 monkey, it seems to focus a lot on non RPG christmas events. I will more than likely continue to support your work, since in the past I’ve really enjoyed it and still do enjoy your art work, just disappointed to see a Christmas arc starting again so soon after you finished the last one and so early in the holiday months. *shrugs*
I definitely see where you’re coming from, but we DID just come off two arcs that were both pretty lengthy and focused heavily on the RPG side of things…
(Also, bear in mind that we lost a month of comics back in May, when Brian’s computer rolled over. So, I’m guessing that cut into everything a little bit.)
I agree with you about the lengthiness of the last arc, but the RPG-side of things has just not been there. That one was more heavily focused on Sam’s depression and stepping down as DM. Nothing wrong with that, but again the dice rolling was very lacking. Then there was the Karthun arc, which was just short. An awesome campaign backstory was set up that got me all hyped, and then a couple pages after they actually got started into the campaign bam! TPK. Been very lacking in the D20 aspect of things. . . I miss the good ol’ days when it was primarily them sitting around the table playing. I appreciate the character development, I really do, but this has turned from a quirky, funny comic into a somewhat serious drama.
It is indeed. Sorry for the fake out but I have been working on tweaking how I draw the elves of the d20Monkeyverse. I didn’t want to spoil his identity early when you noticed it, but very good eye! I respect that attention to detail.
HOVER-TEXT: The Former must have been like a kick to the dick.
Well, He would be high on my ‘people that need a kick to the jingles’ list….
I totally just read the purple text in the voice of Orson Wells from the animated transformers movie.
I have summoned you here for a purpose…
No one summons Clive Delhoop!
Then it pleases me to be the first…
Shit, I read that in his voice.
Me too, it was glorious!

Higgins has a dick?
He is one, kick wherever you want.
Is that a shadowy cave or a giant raisin?
giant stony bunghole? dud eat some fibre
“Great Turd of the Galaxy?”
WAIT IS THIS THE CHRISTMAS ARC?!?!
I’m so excited
*christmas caroler voice*
IT’S THAT TIME OF YEEEAR
The repetition of his title was because the formless voice was still reading through his CV.
…
Shit.
Should clarify, that’s a “Something bad is about to happen” term, not a declaration of the comic’s quality (please put that flaming pitchfork away)
I totally read it that way, but it’s good you clarified.
Yay!!!!! Looks like Jeanie will, still get her chance to kick Clive in the dick!!!
I like how you’re stretching your art some here. Keep it up!
Oh look! Shithead is back!

Eat a dick Higgins
Yep, its the next Christmas and Santa setup…

Klaus?
Ah distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December, as each seperate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor… eagerly I wished the next comic…
Just saw the blog post about the GoFundMe – great to hear! I missed the announcement, but otherwise, I would definitely have chipped in 🙂

“Still recovering” made me laugh.

NOW KISS!
Shit… that doesn’t work when I am involved…
I’ll say this: Keep reading and trust me.

Okay, I got faked out on who this was. But hey, his nose IS a different shape now.

My favorite time of year. Time for another D20 Monkey Christmas. My body is ready
Wow, this was great. Not only was I stunned to find out who it was, but the artwork is awesome – the size and majesty of it are undeniable.
