Didn’t See It Coming
Chapter: Season Two
I’m just going to leave this comic here. Talk amongst yourselves. 🙂
For those throwing down on Thanksgiving this Thursday, have a safe and happy holiday. I’m going to make myself a good meal and settle in for a day off filled with turkey, dressing, deviled eggs, and Skyrim.
See you on Friday.
Brian
Ohh, a plot twist. It appears Sam planned for everything. Good show.
Never trust a black-robe!
Have I mentioned how much I love having a pack of regulars commenting on the new comics when they go up?
I do. It warms my cold little heart. Thank you ladies and gents. Maybe someday I’ll do a forum. Maybe.
Argh, why is Dagger back? No justice in the world, I tells ya. 😉
Now that was unexpected. I would laugh if it turned out in true OSR method that the players planned this ahead of time and that if they survived they would cash out the cleric and loot her body.
THUD! ::Jaw dropping::
*squints* So wait, uh, why?
NOOOOOOO!!! Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Charlie!
… I did not expect to loath Charlie more than Brett.
Wow.
Because she hurt his bro’s feelings, right? Right?
I guess you could say neither of them saw it coming, eh? *Too easy*
So does that technically count as a TPK?
A cleric without healing powers is a fifth wheel. Then again, they could always make good trap springers…
HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA Excellent!
Hm, I’m gonna guess that he knows things will only get worse if the DM doesn’t get to exact his petty revenge and is cutting the next TPK battle off before it starts.
Sam needs a good swift kick in the nuts, and apparently, so does Charlie.
If Sam was really a nice fellow, he’d have found out sooner that Mel already had a boyfriend (even if said boyfriend turns out to be a douche). She doesn’t owe it to Sam to be single, and therefore, hasn’t done anything wrong.
He’s being an ass, and if he were in my group I’d say so (and apply said kick in the nutz if needed).
And damn, Brett being the least douchbaggy of all the guys? My world is turned upside down.
Eric
It’s always the quiet, er blind ones you have to watch out for.
This is a classic metagame arms race, only with funnier banter. DM wants to slaughter the party, so he relies on the fact that Brett’s a metagaming ho. (Why would the DM let Dagger ‘borrow’ that book if it didn’t have some effect that he could hit them with later?)
Revenge is truly a dish best served with a sword to the head.
The diversity of these comments is amazing. Personally I see why Charlie did that. While it was rash for Sam to do this to his players. It was even more rash for Mel to walk away from Sam after her boyfriend just clobbered him. Charlie was sticking up for his friend. Even if it wasn’t a girl that is still cold to walk away from your friend after a beating like that.
“that’s my last heal. I’m tapped” -Greatest line a DM likes to hear! Makes me all warm and fuzzy!
I’ve been reading for a few months now and absolutely love this comic. In fact, it’s my favorite web comic! Love this turn of events. Lol I think Sam and Charlie are my favorites. I used to love Mel, but I still can’t get over her walking away after Sam got the beating. D: It was a daring move, and love the ramifications it’s had on this arc.
On a different note, what do you think of Skyrim? What is your character build?
“Mel doesn’t owe it to Sam to be single, sure… However, continuing to date a guy who beat the shit out of your friend, is a dick move. If my significant other pounded the shit out of one of my friends for no good reason, you can bet I’d kick the shit out of them and be done with it.”
All I can hear in that last panel is that horrible “splorch” noise that films like to use when anything squishy-gorey happens. Bleigh.
Looking forward to the next update 🙂
I think that’s the same look on Mel’s character’s face as when Brett was explaining why he loves Fourthcore. “No, I get it. She’s dead. It’s pretty awesome.”
You know you’ve hit the big leagues when you get 20+ posts of commentators psychoanalyzing your cartoon. 😉
Where are people getting that Charlie is doing it for revenge on his ‘bro’? Maybe I have too much memory of OSR and Fourthcore ideas in my head, but I can’t see Charlie ‘Meta’ killing her for Sam. And I still say Sam’s running a great game in terms of providing physical atmosphere, challenges, and apparently methods of overcoming them. As a GM it’s incredibly easy to kill players with little ability to effect the GM back. I’ll be curious to see if I’m reading this wrong based on what treasures the party gains here. If it’s vast, it’s OSR/Fourthcore. If it’s nothing or pans out into real life fighting, then yeah, I’m seeing it way wrong.
Absolutely loving this webcomic! Great arc right now! Truly cannot wait for the next one.
“She doesn’t owe it to Sam to be single…” This is true and while I think Sam would be hurt, he’d get it and wait her out. But this probably isn’t about that. It’s because she let dbag boyfriend get away with stomping the holy beejeezus out of someone and just walked away. I think it’s safe to say that the boyfriend has done this kind of thing before; people with that attitude are always dbags to people they perceive as “lesser.” Let’s face it, Sam wouldn’t want the boyfriend to “win” except to show Mel how it felt to have someone beat the snot out of your friends.
late to the party… but “What a twist!” I think even M.Knight.Shamalamyaman…yan is taking notes on how to (properly) twist it up.
Wonder now what Trevor is going to do to Brett when he get’s up from his dirt nap. Or will the Blind Swordslinger beat McStabb’s evasion by sheer blind luck?
And why in the hell would she raise those that tried to kill her? Deserves what she gets!!! 😀
