wait… that’s been building for… how long exactly?
emma has been a part of this comic since comic 18 on nov 15th 2010 (i looked it up in the archive)
has it been building since that day? also… bigfoot was in a comic just before that… did you already know to include magical stuff since then? O.o that’s big planning
It isn’t quite that far back. When I started to transition from being a gag-a-day into writing the story I wanted to tell, I looked at the cast and I made some decisions. It has been in the books for a very, very long time though.
I’m just going to assume that apparently *no one* thought Emma being able to talk was at all strange is part of the magic or whatever. A kind of cloaking device or something.
to a TRUE reader of D20 Monkey, Time has no meaning. D20 monkey, is the road leading ever towards the horizons, we have not even yet begun upon the path. to a reader, a year is as a day….
So i guess this means she was there to keep an eye on him and make sure he wasn’t harmed. Larry must have been the guy who guides the wielders and keep them from becoming their own worst enemy or a massive danger because they can literally alter the world around them. Which means Emma has seen hundreds of wielders in her time. Maybe she’s grumpy because she’s both loved and lost a lot of them.
So I guess this means Emma and Larry have nearly the same purpose. Larry guides the wielder into making good choices and not becoming monsters who destroy the world around them while Emma protects them from harm. It makes sense why she’s grumpy too; she’s loved and lost a lot of wielders over the years and she’s a bit jaded.
I am freaking out right now, I am sooo happy the Narrative welder stuff has come back into play and EMMA omg, Brian you beautiful bastard, if I ever meet you I am giving you a big sloppy kiss.
FUCKING EMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Guess that also answer the question about Narrative Wielding…That’s a twofer, Talbot!
Means Sam never really lost the narrative then eh? Since Emma never left 😀
It’s going off the screen!
I wonder how much more charlies brain will be able to take today? what a purrfect way to drop that little bomb.
“That broke me. I’m… I’m done.â€

Nicely done, and well witnessed. Seriously, it’s been a blast enjoying these stories. 🙂

Yeah, that’s what I thought was hilarious. Everyone now is going “OMG, magic is REAL!” And they’ve had a talking cat in the strip for eons.
Maybe it’s some kind of “Phoebe and her Unicorn” “Shield of Boringness” kind of thing.
If people are patient, there will be answers.
“Yeah yeah, patience, how long is that gonna take?” – Ed Gruberman
I understood that reference.

Nah. Emma’s stated before that she doesn’t get pop culture references because she’s only a few years old.
Here we go – Emma is two in this one: https://d20monkey.com/comic/the-sign/

I do have to wonder why the talking cat bit didnt tip them off before.
THE VEIL IS PIERCED
POP…. that was my mind being blown.
Man, I miss Emma. This brings me joy that we’ll probably be seeing her again soon. 🙂

Dallas is too a Narrative-Weilder? If she is is gonna be Cool! 🙂
As a man who has a cat that’s a complete asshole, I must say that that analogy 100% makes sense.
You’re dropping all this lore, introducing new characters, and you’re wrapping up the comic string? Don’t you like us any more? T.T
all good things…
I want to see it go on forever. But as the creator, we have to trust him. I think we’ll be super happy with what’s to come soon, and soon after.
He may be wrapping up this string, but he’s opening up whole new sections of the universe for more strings to span.
… huh… amazing reveal, thank you Brian!
Would love to comment… But first I have to put my mind back together, it just exploded! hehe.
(peers at the universe in Charlie’s glasses. “Hey, I can see my house from here!”)
well suddenly somthing we all just accepted as a thing in this comic makes a HELL OF A LOT MORE SENSE
