Vault of Deknar: Part Thirty-Three
Chapter: Season Seven
Aaaaaaaaaaaand there it is.
Hey, have you checked out d20Monkey on Patreon? Patreon is a fantastic service that allows authors, musicians, artists, and cartoonists like to make creating our full-time job. Aw that rug really tied the room together.
Why did I know that was going to be the first comment? (Or at least one of the first.)
That face in the last panel is exactly what I imagine as Nobby Nobbs.
HOVER-TEXT: What was her first wish? How many wishes does she have? What the hell? DAMMIT, BRIAN!
Judging by Calvis’ face in the last panel, her first wish had something to do with their honeymoon.
Fortunately, clinching and unclinching are free actions.
Dude, when your wife makes you make that face Unclenching is a standard action minimally. Sometimes it’s a complex action, or a craft check.
Or her first wish was the marriage itself. He clearly did not sound thrilled at the idea of being married to Dwayla when he first mentioned it. Could be typical lover’s remorse, or it could be he was forced into it? Who knows…
How did Calvis end up compelled into granting someone wishes? Why is the rug so important, antique or not? When do the rest of us get to play Karthun? Dammit, Brian!
…seriously, though. I really want to jump into this world.
Well, since the rug doesn’t exist (or at least doesn’t appear to) the excuse is that it has blood from a god on it.
I would imagine that’s worth a lot of money to the right people, or (especially since it’s the blood of an assassin god) can be used to make/do some messed up shit.
Bingo. The rug actually exists but for now, it does not seem to be in this vault.
So, “your princess is in another castle”?
It propably had to do with him drowing – possibly hurt or after having lost some close to him – back in part 28.
Your hovertext accurately predicted my questions.
DAMMIT BRIAN
In Karthun, you grant genie wishes!
My thought is something like a cursed artifact option, a genie lamp where it makes three wishes that you have to carry out.
this reminds me of the bit with Ravel and the nameless one. I have to wonder if this wish works like regular wishes or is this more like a Geas spell? that he has to fullfill a certain number of wishes before the enchantment is lifted? really liking the Karthuun setting more and more (wish i had been able to be part of the kickstarter for it)
Brian, I just want to say that your lettering is solid gold. 🙂
Thanks! I attribute that to years of comics and working as a professional graphic designer where I had to polish many turds, so to speak.
A reverse genie…and he nailed it…literally
A rug with… *Takes notes, steals ideas to make more ideas…*
Okay now that’s interesting. Clearly this wish she uses doesn’t leave him a choice and since they are numbered one can assume that there is a limited quantity of them, presumably three, the traditionnal number.
Now if this is some form of geas are they held to exact words? Because she sent them to steal the rug. But there is no rug, so they can’t steal it. Will he be bound by the wish until he finds and steal the rug?
Also this lead me to believe that she really did not intend to put them in such a bad situation. If she wanted them to steal the hand of fire she could have used her wish to force them to steal it! There was no need for her to lie! So she probably really thought there would be a rug in this vault.
Also sacrificing someone you have so much power over sound like an extremely stupid move.

I know that face, his entire body is trying to flee via his anus. Unclenching is a full round action if you have that face.
Wait, caught, killed or worse? Isn’t death itself actually like, really terrifying because the underworld here sucks?
In the words of Monty Python “How could it possibly be worse? Jehovah, Jehovah, Jehovah!”
Ima need a recap when they get back to the dungeon….AceOfSpade has good points but…wooo, lots going on and with the big break I’m a bit lost.
Maybe the rug is there, hiding in plain sight…. (blood of assassin god effects perhaps?)
Considering it is the blood of the Assassin god, it would probably be invisible and probably cause a temporary invisibility to those who stand on it, and the only reason he doesn’t see it, or doesn’t know it’s whereabouts is because he was already invisibile when he passed it, so a barefoot person might have a better chance of finding it
It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing boots, if you go from a stone floor to a rug, you notice. Especially if you’re creeping as carefully as he was.
Wow, Felicos assassinated a mortal? The gods really do get involved in mortal affairs in Karthun, don’t they?
