I should get a one-man band set, just to make my players put it on and walk around the room a few times whenever they roll a “1” on a stealth check, just to add to the atmosphere…

Which is kinda a shame. I mean you’re so skilled that you can’t fail a very easy task (like a Dc 5 or DC 10) if your skill mod alone is more than the said DC.

Yep… just asked professional stuntmen, a profession that can be said to be equally dangerous here. It’s always the easiest stunts that claim the lives of stuntmen. Overconfidence is a killer.

I have never rolled more natural 1s than I did on stealth rolls with a thief with stealth as her best stat.
Sounds like the Ranger my friend played in our last game, he rolled so many ones on survival and nature rolls… Actually he just rolled a lot of one’s in general.
What is Bret stealth point on his character sheet?
I don’t think that would help, since he rolled a 1. Plus, Bret’s character looks to be more of a “bash them in the head and rifle through their pockets” kind of thief.
Takes me back to the time I rolled up a dwarf who was nigh-immune to poison (in the days of AD&D 2nd Edition Player’s Option) for a mid-level adventure module.
Guess what killed him on his very first saving throw?

So funny as that was literally me at my Tuesday night game this week. Except i’m not the stealth based character in the party but I was the one who suggested we sneak in…Nat 1 !! Ha.
I think the last panel would make an awesome shirt.
A shirt would be good, but what I think would be even more fun would be CARDS. Every time someone fails a stealth check, or suggests a truly stupid plan, or whatever else seems appropriate, the DM throws down a card with this picture on it.
I’d totally buy a pack (or five) of these, and I don’t even play PnP more than once in a chartreuse moon.

I’m like 900% certain that we’d have ended up with something like this happening if our plans last session hadn’t been waylaid by giant ass Kraken trio attacking the city.
Oh man. The rouge in a campaign i was in…. he rolled a 1 on the very first stealth check of the game. He ended up knocking on the door and screaming “ANYBODY HOME?!?!”, waking up the 2 orcs we were trying to sneak up on.
This is probably the single most hilarious depiction of a critical fail ever!

My group has this thing for fumbles and crits on stealth checks…
We’ve come to imagine, in some various forms, our bard (1.0, meaning thief as well~) being overtaken by the spirit of song, when she fumbles… and she breaks out into “Cat-like Tread”, from Pirates of Penzance. Singing, dancing, sword-swinging, theater-style yelling and projection; the whole nine yards. Nothing she can do about it, it’s just what she is.
And when she crits? She *gets away with it*.
I want to play in that group! That is awesome! 😀

I am so doing this in my games; that is my favorite song from the play. The sheer irony of pirates sneaking up on their prey, all the while singing at the top of their lungs about how stealthy they are is just too perfect.
I was GM a game where the ranger equivalent kept rolling 1’s for direction and tracking of people. The party got lost and needed to be rescued after one of the other party members noticed the food wrapper they dropped after passing it twice. Unfortunately for the group the first people who came to the “rescue” were the bad guys.
I laughed really hard at this. Thanks for that.
