Oh man, I totally love the good time band angle you put on the standing drum, just perfect my friend, I laughed so hard when I saw that I had to stop reading for a few minutes because my vision staarted to blur from the tears.
Straight into the microwave, Mr. D(-bag)20. Time to teach the other dice an object lesson, just like whoever Negan chose on the season finale of The Walking Dead (Glenn…)
I should get a one-man band set, just to make my players put it on and walk around the room a few times whenever they roll a “1” on a stealth check, just to add to the atmosphere…
Which is kinda a shame. I mean you’re so skilled that you can’t fail a very easy task (like a Dc 5 or DC 10) if your skill mod alone is more than the said DC.
Yep… just asked professional stuntmen, a profession that can be said to be equally dangerous here. It’s always the easiest stunts that claim the lives of stuntmen. Overconfidence is a killer.
Sounds like the Ranger my friend played in our last game, he rolled so many ones on survival and nature rolls… Actually he just rolled a lot of one’s in general.
I don’t think that would help, since he rolled a 1. Plus, Bret’s character looks to be more of a “bash them in the head and rifle through their pockets” kind of thief.
Takes me back to the time I rolled up a dwarf who was nigh-immune to poison (in the days of AD&D 2nd Edition Player’s Option) for a mid-level adventure module.
Guess what killed him on his very first saving throw?
I absolutely f***ing lost it at the last panel. Woke up my poor wife at 2am with my laughter.
Seriously tho this is TOTALLY what happens when you Nat 1 Stealth.
So funny as that was literally me at my Tuesday night game this week. Except i’m not the stealth based character in the party but I was the one who suggested we sneak in…Nat 1 !! Ha.
A shirt would be good, but what I think would be even more fun would be CARDS. Every time someone fails a stealth check, or suggests a truly stupid plan, or whatever else seems appropriate, the DM throws down a card with this picture on it.
I’d totally buy a pack (or five) of these, and I don’t even play PnP more than once in a chartreuse moon.
I’m like 900% certain that we’d have ended up with something like this happening if our plans last session hadn’t been waylaid by giant ass Kraken trio attacking the city.
Oh man. The rouge in a campaign i was in…. he rolled a 1 on the very first stealth check of the game. He ended up knocking on the door and screaming “ANYBODY HOME?!?!”, waking up the 2 orcs we were trying to sneak up on.
My group has this thing for fumbles and crits on stealth checks…
We’ve come to imagine, in some various forms, our bard (1.0, meaning thief as well~) being overtaken by the spirit of song, when she fumbles… and she breaks out into “Cat-like Tread”, from Pirates of Penzance. Singing, dancing, sword-swinging, theater-style yelling and projection; the whole nine yards. Nothing she can do about it, it’s just what she is.
“WITH CAT-LIKE TREAD, UPON OUR PREY WE STEAL,
IN SILENCE DREAD, OUR CAUTIOUS WAY WE FEEL,
NO SOUND AT ALL, WE NEVER SPEAK A WORD,
A FLY’S FOOTFALL WOULD BE DISTINCTLY HEARD!”
I am so doing this in my games; that is my favorite song from the play. The sheer irony of pirates sneaking up on their prey, all the while singing at the top of their lungs about how stealthy they are is just too perfect.
I was GM a game where the ranger equivalent kept rolling 1’s for direction and tracking of people. The party got lost and needed to be rescued after one of the other party members noticed the food wrapper they dropped after passing it twice. Unfortunately for the group the first people who came to the “rescue” were the bad guys.
Just started reading this comic (great job!). Ive been playing and DMing since 1st ed.
Have to say kudos on the last panel…have seen thatr look on player’s faces for years.
Keep up the good work!
HOVER-TEXT: GET IT HERE.
Oh man, I totally love the good time band angle you put on the standing drum, just perfect my friend, I laughed so hard when I saw that I had to stop reading for a few minutes because my vision staarted to blur from the tears.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Oh that is such a hilarious second half of the page!
How did Brett get his hands on my D20?
Here I think you’d be glad to be rid of it.
Now that is how it always goes…
FRESH MEAT POPSICLES! NO WAITING!
This feel…I know it all too well…
Maybe Brett should just, like, stay outside…
It doesn’t work like that. Once you’ve rolled to do something, you can’t back out if you roll low.
Straight into the microwave, Mr. D(-bag)20. Time to teach the other dice an object lesson, just like whoever Negan chose on the season finale of The Walking Dead (Glenn…)
Hah! that’s epic. And as they say, The best laid plans…
Oh and I think Eugene gets some sweet loving from Lucille.
I love this whole page so, so much!
All too common in tabletop rpg, if you ask me….
5% chance. Kinda of the reason I like the 3d6 system they use in the AGE System. Bell curve’s are sexy.
I should get a one-man band set, just to make my players put it on and walk around the room a few times whenever they roll a “1” on a stealth check, just to add to the atmosphere…
Right. New plan: I’m the distraction.
That’s the best way to play with the nat-1…
Skill checks don’t crit though…
They do in my game.
Which is kinda a shame. I mean you’re so skilled that you can’t fail a very easy task (like a Dc 5 or DC 10) if your skill mod alone is more than the said DC.
Well even the best trained person can mess up.
Yep… just asked professional stuntmen, a profession that can be said to be equally dangerous here. It’s always the easiest stunts that claim the lives of stuntmen. Overconfidence is a killer.
Yuuuup. Been knitting maille over a decade now and every so often I’ll STILL fuck up an entire seam by missing a ring.
Reminds me of this:

Yes! Classic OotS! 😀
“Roll for stealth.”
“Natural 1.”
“… roll a d20.”
“… 4.”
“Your pack rips and everything in it clatters to the ground around you.”
I have never rolled more natural 1s than I did on stealth rolls with a thief with stealth as her best stat.
Sounds like the Ranger my friend played in our last game, he rolled so many ones on survival and nature rolls… Actually he just rolled a lot of one’s in general.
What is Bret stealth point on his character sheet?
I don’t think that would help, since he rolled a 1. Plus, Bret’s character looks to be more of a “bash them in the head and rifle through their pockets” kind of thief.
Takes me back to the time I rolled up a dwarf who was nigh-immune to poison (in the days of AD&D 2nd Edition Player’s Option) for a mid-level adventure module.
Guess what killed him on his very first saving throw?
(Hint: it was poison.)
Ok, you got me laughing hard with this one. Mainly due to we had this happen in a game I was running about a year ago.
that last pannel
that’s our tables failed stealth check joke too, fallowed by the failed search check of “you see a mouse on a Harley ride by”
Gygax meme FTW.
Dying. I’m dying. The last panel has killed me.
OMG, it’s that “Oh Fuck My Life” look on Brett’s face that’s killing me. XD
I am pretty proud of it. One of my favorite expressions ever.
You should be proud! Brett gets some of the *BEST* expressions. 😀
I absolutely f***ing lost it at the last panel. Woke up my poor wife at 2am with my laughter.

I think the last panel would make an awesome shirt.

It’s not often that an “LOL” is literal.
The Power of the “1”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is probably the single most hilarious depiction of a critical fail ever!
You are keeping it awesome, sir.
*falls off chair laughing*

And when she crits? She *gets away with it*.
I want to play in that group! That is awesome! 😀

I laughed really hard at this. Thanks for that.
I need you to be aware I spent 2 days reading every single comic to get back to the point of this one. Which my friend linked me.
And then I was saddened when I clicked and there was no next. (EVERY TIME I DO THIS EVERY TIME.)
Love it though. Obviously. <3 WELL DONE AND FUN.
Thank you so much!
This is so real, I sent it to all my players, past and present- so well done!
So its it just me, or the Brett the D20 Monkey of bad-rolls recently?
Just started reading this comic (great job!). Ive been playing and DMing since 1st ed.
