The characters are 4 thieves, thugs and other lowlife + a mage on the run. Basically a archetypical Shadowrun group not in the Shadowrun universe.
Did you expect them to make a charity for orphanned Dogs in the adventure? Anything but just such an adventure would seem far fetched.

to be fair, they DO do local charity for guards on hard luck, and maintain an honest business as a cover.
