Finally one of them has a clue and notices what’s going on around them instead of only what’s directly attacking them. 😉 I sure hope his character makes it out of this alive!
The dungeon masters guide has a specific category for these kind of encouters.
Thier difficulty is variable based on if the player have the right tools/make the right rolls.
Classical example is if they have someone with the ability to turn undead while fighting undead. Another 3.0 example was “Invisible Goblin Cleric healing the fighters”. As he is not attacking anyone his invisibilty would not break. And “Geek the mage first” does not work if you are not aware there even is a mage.
