This Here Holler
Chapter: Season Eight
Characters: Sam
Is that Hillbilly wielding arcane flame?! WTF is going on in that game? Oh wait, I know. I’m kinda writing it. Maybe.
Jokes aside, Sam isn’t having a good day.

HOVER-TEXT: I spent way too much time on that second panel.
Totally worth it.
I think its actually kinda cool, reminds me of a campaign I wrote using magic resistant ogres and the theme of certain movie named Deliverance. I only used to bring that out though when I had unruly gamers whom kept messing over the campaigns.
You mean just enough time.
I mean, you didn’t give him a dick bulge so you’ve got that going for you. <3
They already killed his sister and the herd of goats…
This pairs nicely with Randy Milhollands ‘Redneck Trees’ http://www.somethingpositive.net/sp05042002.shtml
Reminder, Deadlands is a RPG that exists and a arcane hillbilly is quite possible in that system.
Or did you spend exactly the right amount of time on the second panel?
I’d play Hillbilly Wars. 🙂
I can’t wait to play Hillbilly Wars.
Gotta admit I’m looking forward to getting Brett and Sam in the same panel again.
LOOK OUT, NARRATIVE SMACKDOWN INCOMING!
Hellbilly Wars too on the nose?
I want to see the Hillbilly Wars White Lightning wielder.
The time you spent on that second panel was worth it!
His arcane powers are fueled by moonshine!
Is “Arcane power” code for “setting his own arm on fire”?
Gives a whole new meaning to the term “white lightning.”
It’s best if it burns with a clear blue flame!
Your second panel was one of the two things to make me smile today.
You helped a dude you don’t know feel a bit better after a long, grueling, shitty day.
Dunno if it’s worth anything to ya, but it certainly was worth something to me…
Second panel was the time, I like the way your art is evolving Bryan, I also see the “Kill Bill” red screen want to murder on that last panel.
↑*worth*
So, the Slaters vs the Whatelys? I’d play this game.
Sam may not be having a good day, but sometimes you need that little cattleprod up the tail pipe to get you going.
Brian, as excited as I am for Karthun to hit my gaming table, I need Hillbilly Wars, like yesterday!!!
That standie is about to have the worst Wednesday ever.
Genuine LOL.
I’d wear panel two on a shirt…. just saying.
Hmm, would arcane hillbillies be sort of a subsect of sorcerers? No fancy ‘book-larnin’, just figuring out their natural magical powers on their own by blasting tin cans and stray pigs.
Echo on the panel 2 love, but with panel 3, is he so angry it’s coming out as tears? I’ve been there before and understand that level of rage that you try to hold in so hard that your body just has to let something out.
Also, I realized I looked at the flames on his shirt in p3 just to make sure they weren’t starting to glow a bit as well.
i dont think im the only one who would play a ttrpg about magic hillbillies
As always with the game ideas you drop into this comic, I want to play it. What I want to know is; what kind of game is Hillbilly Wars? Feels to me like the greatest CCG ever devised, but what is it in everyone else’s imagination?
I’m picturing a rules-crunchy, combat-heavy, tactical game (a la 3.5). You play a family of moonshiners, trying to protect your stills from rival clans and “Rev’nooers” until you can deliver your product to your customers. Your magic is strengthened by the moonshine—but be careful not to drink all your profits! Could make a nice board game, too.
