The Weeping Dead
This comic is partially based on actual events.
I know this is a little behind the times, so to speak, but I’ve wanted to do this strip for a while. If you play games on a regular basis there is a good chance you’ve already heard of The Walking Dead game from Tell Tale Games. I could gush over it for hours but I will say this: It is fantastic. Regardless of whether or not you are a fan of The Walking Dead this is some of the best storytelling ever offered in a video game and it is heartbreaking but captivating in such a way that you cannot stop playing.
I apologize for missing the update on Wednesday but real-life and work on the Kickstarter took precedence. I think I am going to start posting quick Bob the Fighter comics on days where sickness or my day job stomp on my buffer.
Speaking of Kickstarter (Segway’d!), I recently backed The Grand Temple of Jing, a badass Pathfinder megadungeon from creators such as Danny O’Neill, Jonathan Tweet, Monte Cook, and Skip Williams. It looks bad ass and though I am beginning the Rise of the Runelords adventure path from Paizo, I will keep this on the shelf and dive in at the first opportunity.
And finally. One week remains on the Fake Geek Squirrel t-shirt preorder. If you are so inclined, I’d love to get the word out on this one via your preferred flavor of social media.
Have a great weekend!
I utterly concur with the Walking Dead game. Couldn’t put it down. And some of the most unique (and difficult to take part in) storytelling I’ve ever seen.
Also, Wesley Crusher sweater?!? Nice.
I have it, but have not played it yet. Will brace for it.
I keep waffling about the Grande Temple of Jing. Can there ever be too many dungeons? Probably not. It’s a good lineup, but I’d be more willing to back if I saw a preview of a level. Nothing jumps out at me and says “BUY ME NOW!” yet.
I just started playing this game last week. I’m surprised at how good it is. I was worried it was going to be a crappy series tie-in.
I don’t get the “Pills. Here.” part of the comic. Is that some reference to a manly way to play video games I’m not aware of? A sexual reference? Either way, for me that is reference fail. Another issue of clarity with the story: I didn’t understand what they were talking about “playing” until I read the comment. You can play a tabletop game, a DVD, etc. If someone had been holding a controller in any of the frames, that might have helped.
It’s cool, Ken. Some days the comic rings for everyone and some days it doesn’t. The pills line is in reference to game Left 4 Dead.
“Pills. Here.” has got to be the most common, annoying, utterance in Left4Dead games. The pills are really painkillers but always offer a temporary boost to your health, key point being temporary. The way many of the more challenging games pan out (if you don’t remember all the spawnpoints, drama sections, and random encounters nearly flawlessly/ are dealing with sons of cthulu in undead form) is that someone winds up being the “pill hog/ predetermined addict” this person’s duty? Run their character on pills/ find the pills in the level and make sure that they are used up.
The crash in the very beginning really freaked me out. All of a sudden I had all these options to curse REALLY LOUDLY and then next thing I know I’m not breathing because my xbox is putting me through a deadly car crash simulation and the driver is flailing around like a rag doll ..
I’ve played through the first ep, need to go pick up the full collection. EFF THIS GAME FOR BEING SO GOOD. All the tears. >:[
Yeah Rise of the Runelords is pretty kickass. We have started it several times but never actually finished it due to other arcs we wanted to run. Halfway through the Kingmaker Campaign and just started the Jade Regent campaign and that one is really awesome so far. Actually got pretty difficult and almost lost to goblins… yeah sounds bad, but party comp is a Paladin, Fighter, Ranger (skirmisher) and a Monk. No healer and no mage.
I read this as I was heading off to work. So decided to read it again. Love it, been wanting to play this. I didn’t catch the Crusher sweater the first time I read it.
Is…is that Westley’s shirt he’s wearing?
Ugh, yes. That game really gets inside your head.
Just finished the first episode of Season Two. Most excruciating scene I’ve seen in a game, and I’ve been playing computer games since 1983.
And when it’s all over…
“I’M. NOT. SICK!”
…And now Telltale Games is DOA, thanks to crappy management, screwed-over employees, half-finished games…
Godspeed, Clem. Hope you’re still out there somewhere…
