As someone with an older brother, they are not always dicks. My brother and I just never really talk so… I mean, he’s not bad people we just don’t have any common interests.
“Older brothers are born first to Protect the younger ones who come after” – Paraphrased from Ichigo Kurosaki of Bleach.
Lee is obviously a jerk who either doesn’t care, or believes he’s protecting his brother by another means.
This was the guy who sabotaged Sams chances of working at Dragons Den in the first place.
Though either way, he’s still a jerk.
Hey I’m the oldest and I’m not a dick to my four younger siblings. I’ve helped them sincerely with homework, taught them how to play games, learned things from them myself, and only mooch from them when I’m having one of my seizures. It’s not ALWAYS the older brother. It’s just a majority of the time due to age differential.
From a business standpoint, I feel that there is a logical reason behind this. From a story standpoint this looks like it is going to hurt the family relationship. Either way, there is a word for what poor Sam might be feeling and I think it is…BETRAYAL!!!!
We really don’t have a lot of context to believe the family relationship was previously all that harmonious. I can see this whole thing being massively fueled by sibling jealousy, taking sides in a parental split, and indeed the disaster when Lee was left in charge of the Dragon’s Den… family drama knows no bounds.
What’s interesting is that one of the few things we know about Lee is that has no personal interest in gaming and can therefore extrapolate that he isn’t motivated to run a better store for any reason other than who he can hurt with it.
Yeah, I was about to say – he and Sam were practically opposites, but I never got the impression that there was bad blood between them. (Maybe something to do with Pops?)
If you recall, LEE was the reason his father didn’t want to give Sam a job in the first place and the major boner of a contention between Sam and his father without Sam knowing it. This came out during the Larry the DM episodes. Lee was a filthy backstabber in the end, but he is a brother, just not a very good brother and if he keeps to his old mold, and follows what Dove has in mind he’ll find himself broke, however, I personally think he’s being controlled, it really wouldn’t surprise me.
To be honest this doesn’t seem like backstabbing, Sam’s dad clearly said he thought Lee should take the reins since he’s oldest, and because he did a shitty job Sam’s dad swore never to hire family again.
WAIT, wait wait wait wait, wasn’t Lee fired by his own father for bad gamer antics when he was working in the Den? If I recall, especially since I just read it a little while ago, as in this morning, he made commits highly disparaging to D&D and gaming in general when telling a lady to give her underage kid a specific game. Not only that but the comment was highly sexually charged in a highly illegal manner. That’s part of why he was fired, along with trying to sex up customers and just plain bad business practices.
don’t recall the details, but definitely remember Lee getting canned from the Den, think his and Sam’s dad was unwilling to hire Sam originally because of it
I have to say, I’ve never hated a character in a comic, book, or movie anywhere near as much as I hate your villains. They’re just such unrepentant asses that you just want to take them out and shoot them. On one hand, that’s great storytelling getting emotional responses from your characters. But on the other hand, I actually find myself coming around less often to this page during these threads just so I don’t get pissed off in the middle of the day for no real reason.
You’re really good at writing really bad characters, or at least ones that resonate with me. Whether that’s an overall plus or not, I’m not sure.
Gonna be honest – I think there’s more going on here.
Based on what little we’ve seen of Lee, I don’t feel like he’s the type to start a store to get back at his dad/brother. He’s not a gamer, so I doubt he had any interest in running the Dragon’s Den. Unless this is some “you were always dad’s favorite!” stuff, then someone else is behind Lee.
I… honestly would love to sit at your table, you’re so damn good at making villains that make me want to hire lawyers to beat them into submission in the best possible ways…
I can’t help but feel that, short of the originals, you’re probably the first person I’d want to run Temple of Elemental Evil.
Gods damn it Brian, this made me go back and reread the archives for a refresher on Lee which lead to rereading the whole comic. Currently on the Dungeon Run. Wasn’t there already a Game Haus which was mentioned early in the comic? And I have been amused by how many little gag comics you did with “I think this may become a regular bit” that never happened again.
That’s odd, I dont remember Lee being a jerk, let alone having any interest in his Father’s business. Much less gaming in general. So what exactly changed in the rather long gap since we have seen him?
HOVER-TEXT: There is still a high probability for murder here.
I…
Uhh…
Wow.
*grabs popcorn*
I guess now we know who was in the limo way back in 2014: https://d20monkey.com/comic/dungeon-run-doot-doot/
Yep.
Could someone remind me who Lee is?
Maybe click the link in the post? But here is one anyway…
https://d20monkey.com/comic/a-burning-need/
That’s weird, I just hit the “Lee” tag on this strip, and it just took me to today’s comic.
Uh, Brian, this is the only strip with the Lee tag. The Burning Need strip is just tagged as Christmas 2010.
But clicking the Lee character name in that strip does grant access to the true Lee archive, one entry at a time.
Weird. I will investigate
Why are older brothers always dicks? *has no older brothers*

the older brother who did such a crap job runnign the Den that their dad wouldn’t let our hero work at the store till he was 20
Anyone else start singing Tenacious D? Just me?
Me, and KG, and TENACIOUS LEEE…
Huh…Well I didn’t see THAT twist coming. But, now I wanna question how did he end up with a insane pile of money.
In time.
My guess was someone magic , so I was also probably wrong

What happened to Lee? He didn’t seem like a capital A Asshole before. He wasn’t a nerd, but he wasn’t a bag of angry cats covered in bees.
Yeah, I was about to say – he and Sam were practically opposites, but I never got the impression that there was bad blood between them. (Maybe something to do with Pops?)

Go figure the very day Pops gives him the keys to “The Dragon’s Den,” his brother reveals he’s behind the “Game Haus”.
I’ll be curious to see what Lee feels he needs to avenge himself upon Sam for. Being Pops’ favourite, perhaps?

He was a Anti-Gamer for his entire life. Somebody is the true Master mind.
Care to post a link? It’s been a while since I binged, and that was all the Karthun stuff.
I guess this means Lee usurped Grey’s title as Lord Douchebro
Someone need to find all the comics Lee was in, cause I don’t remeber this guy at all or why he is doing this to Sam and his fathers shop.
I am impressed with Lee’s design. Cool to see what you’re willing to do with a character that hasn’t had screen presence for many years.

Yeah, many are on the “maybe someday” list.

Oh, snap.
The matching bracelet/necklace combo makes it look like he is wearing a costume.
