The Characters: Part Two
Chapter: Season Five, Season Six
Damn right he’s still playing Jeda Swiftbeard. If you need a refresher on these folks, this is where the last Karthun adventure started!
We’ll learn more about Sentinel Hale and the Sentinels of the Book soon.
The adventure starts on Monday!
HOVER-TEXT: OMG KARTHUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!
That hover text is exactly my reaction.
Speaking of which: WHEN THE FLIPPITY-FRACK ARE WE GETTING KARTHUN RPG BOOKS? Daddy has an itch to scratch and a large pile of tax return burning a hole in my good sense.
I’m still working through the new system. Though I’m thinking that I might do a book that exists simply to convert all D&D versions to each other. If it hasn’t been done already.
Because AD&D remains BEST D&D.
this just keeps getting better!
He’s the perfect thief now, he can never be handcuffed!
Oh, he can still be handcuffed. However, he’ll be legendary when no one can figure out how he managed to escape with his only arm chained up.
Mhmm, so many delicious pouches.
At least he won’t get accused of copying any other famous dwarves this way. Also, I cannot help but think of Wrongfully Accused upon reading Jeanie’s comment. The one-eyed, one-armed, no-bearded dwarf! He’s the cutpurse, not me!
Alright, so we’ve got a mighty bard of barding. A martial character of some sort, I’m guessing fighter because she looks beefy as hell and has tons of awesome scars. A wizard, can’t beat a classic. Another martial looking character, although he has a book rather than a weapon, cleric maybe, but I’m feeling a paladin vibe coming off that sentinels bit. And Jeda Swiftbeard, thief by reputation; badass by occupation.
And if their actual classes have been mentioned/listed somewhere already, then I’m going to feel kind of silly.
Rian isn’t a bard, he’s a cleric of the goddess of music (among other things. 5 gods means a lot of double-duty). I’d peg Breck as a cleric too, in the service of Deknar (the hammer sure suggests a warpriest archetype, true)
Ohh I am really digging this. Can’t wait for it to get rolling.
I love when character continue to play the same character, no matter how much time passes. My wife Heather is playing a Wild Magic Sorcerer who cares all the memories of every other PC she has ever played in any campaign. So in a way all these characters stay with her π
So…..Jeda’s the One-Armed Bandit? If there aren’t any casino/gambling puns in the near future I’m going to be disappointed.
I’m hoping that Shepherd Vella gets a cameo as an NPC.
This makes me crave my Karthun source book even more. I can’t wait to dive in.
It wasnt me, it was the one armed man!
Karthun! Can’t wait for my handbook and DM guide so I can run a campaign.
So see, here’s my query. It has been stated that Berserker Rageing isn’t a barbarian thing, it’s more like a disease in Karthun. So does Carlos have it here?
Well now, he certainly doesn’t look like Varric anymore.
FUCK YES!!! I was hoping so much we would see Jeda Swiftbeard again!! And he looks fucking rad!
Fuck this will be awesome!
I am more interested to get more Information on the Critical Maneuver sytem. I have read through the old Comics and comment sections and so far it still seems Kind of broken ,Things i like to be explained in the Comic for example:
– does a Critical maneuver occur everytime a Player rolls a natural 20? (got Players in my Group who had the luck to roll 2-4 natural 20s in one night. No their dice were not loaded.)
– and most important. Would an enemys nat 20 cause a Critical Maneuver too? Ether it does not, which gives Player an unbalanced Advantage or it indeed does and it could spell Desaster cause depending on the Maneuver it could mean instant Group wipe.
Maybe my questions were already answered somewhere but sadly i didn’t found out yet.
We’ve really only had one Karthun play, so we as readers understand very little of the world as it stands. I’m sure everything you are curious about is completely justified. Let’s wait and see how the coming weeks play out and hope for some answers, because I am curious about Critical Maneuvers as well.
hehe.true i guess. its just that i wanted to insert something like a Limit break System in my game myself a few years back. But there were always Problems with it like the ones i mentioned above.Hence my curiosity.
Yeah, my old DM tried to do the same, it was fun, but had a lot of problems, like the total Group Wipe issue. It just takes experimentation is all, which is half the fun of gaming in general. I would think that you could choose to use your CM if you want to, kinda like limit break, as for Enemy CMs I am sort of split on wanting to seem enemies with them and not. Maybe They will be saved for bigger enemies so every orc and goblin isn’t pulling some high damage shit, who knows?
yeah, but that still didn’t seem Perfectly Balance if small enemeys cant have them, i mean i like games for example were the orc can be an enemy and a Player race,so why should one get them and the other not?
My idea was more in the direction that weaker/smaller enemies can only Perform a critical Maneuver as a combination attack if they are Present in a certain number. Like a “Pack attack” for wolves if they are 4+ wolves that have the Player Group encircled. this would work well for all small enemys that come in bigger Groups.
It would give Players a reason to be on their toes when they spot any larger Group of enemys and want to plan a strategy to either split the enemy Group in smaller ones or decimate the number quickly before the enemy gets a lucky nat 20.
Thought that still would not solve the Group wipe Problem with bigger enemies who could perform this maneuvers on there own.
savage worlds has a system that works involving bennies, look it up. dm only has so many to use, and they’re usually saved for “non-rank’n’file”
even goblins have that one in the back that’s bigger and tougher than the rest. or using magic, much to the fear and dismay of the others.
Because just as there’s a difference between the a PC hero and an average shmuck guardsman, there’s a difference between an Orcish warlord and grunt? It seems quite sensible for Critical Manoeuvres to be reserved for exceptional individuals, which PCs are pretty much by definition.
Yes. So much freakin’ yes! I feel like it’s the first day of gaming! ‘Cause it is!
Ahh, see? That’s the mark of a real RPG player. He looks at his maimed character, notes he still has one hit point. Then he shrugs and keeps playing. I’ve played too many games where the others complained that they weren’t able to keep up with the other power gamers, despite having two arms and a head full of eyeballs.
AHHHHHH! I am so excited for this!
KARTHUUUUUUUUUN!
I was right. Carlos IS a boss. That is the exact character archetype I have always loved.
Jeda now has a shaved head (but still no beard). Does this mean his status as Jandur has somehow improved?
I would imagine that the beard is probably more important than the hair, and given that he probably can’t grow a full head of hair any more, it’s acceptable to shave the rest. Remember that he’s an outcast on purpose, getting accepted back amongst the Underlords isn’t a goal of his.
Am I the only one who sees an opening for a mechanical arm full of tools/gadgets? Also wondering about this interesting sentinel sage class, I’m presuming something akin to an inquisitor or magus, some sort of partial spellcaster with several unique abilities that pure mages wouldn’t have.
There is always room for automail. Always.
So…he’s a one-eye, one-armed flying rogue of death (sung to a possibly recognizable tune).
Jeda Swiftbeard should have a new nickname “Lefty”
I’ve been reading the comic for a few years but couldn’t resist clicking on the link just for a refresher on the original campaign. Really can’t wait for Monday now π
Having reread the original adventure, and seeing the changes artistically, I am incredibly excited for both the new adventure and the Karthun book coming my way. As both a player and a GM, I applaud you, sir π
Huh….suddenly, I’m regretting giving up on my character after a month long headache trying to make him…weird.
Anywhoodle, can’t wait to learn more of this worlds backstory!
I Love the characters, and Jeda will be awesome!!
But…Carlos is no longer a ragin giant?
Nope! That was just for the Dungeon Run event. He is moving into new territory now.
So… his left arm and eye are gone? I guess that means he’s
(Puts on sunglasses)
All right now
YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!!
