1) after the mentioning of a teacher, it seemed extremely likely that Talbot here would be it (though he could be lying, and be a threat, but I’d like to believe he’s just that eccentric)
2) that he went from “creepin’ in the bushes†to congenial party guest was quite the turn
3) just causally throwing “narrative wielder†into his conversation leads further credibility to his being legit
-also-
4) I thought after failing the tests Sam lost the Narrative. Does this mean there’s just lingering narrative around his general person, or is he getting a second chance (or just a less potent, but still real, without further testing, version of the narrative)?
5) dudes got an imposing figure.
I personally think that Sam’s still in the running for the Narrative. I think that Larry just straight-up lied to him and told him that he was out, when in reality he was putting the tests on hold while Sam got his shit straightened out. This is actually kind of foreshadowed about 10 pages back when it was revealed that Larry was the guy in the stall. He had mentioned ‘darkest before the dawn’ and how it’s ‘all coming together for them’. Granted that could be taken a lot of ways, but I choose to believe that there’s some kind of plan that’s trying to get them all bound in some way to the other side of the veil. I think that the only character in the main cast who HASN’T had some kind of direct contact with the mystical side of things is Trevor.
Larry never said Sam failed to get the Narrative, only that he (Larry) f-ed up and took too long because of all the time he spent at titty bars. Sam is not a full narrative wielder yet, but Future Sight is not an uncommon benefit to being a wizard… (And even though I am writing this from the future, I don’t actually know anything beyond what I have already read before this point.)
Yeah, I’m hoping this is gonna turn into a reveal that he still has that power inside him somehow. Sam could use a win and that whole abrupt stripping of it always bothered me. But it could just as easily be that this guy can just see the echoes of that previous power in him.
It makes me wonder if the recent “Being a GM is Magic” page was the first in a series of events bringing Sam back to the Narrative. It would be a fitting thing to tie up as the strip winds to a close.
Hold on, he may have something here. Let’s hear him out.

That was just supposed to be a regular comment, not a reply.
I blame cocktail sauce fingers, for reasons.

Trevor had his dealings with the Boner Fairy, so mystical shenanigans for all the original core cast members!
But yeah, throwing Larry back into things does make a strong case for Sam getting another chance at everything.

I have…questions
Sauce pockets for on-the-go dipping is how wizards keep one hand free for casting, Sam.
Do try to keep up.
Sauce Pockets is the name of my new JPop band.
Ah, so it’s this guy. I was assuming he had something to do with Charles’ family. Huh.
Well, he’s no Harry Dresden, but he does already have a Pratchett/Adams vibe to him, so I’m curious to see where this goes.
Talbot, Talbot, Talbot… This sounds familliar, ahve we heard the name Talbot before in this comic?
Maybe it’s just me, but he looks familliar…
He was creeping in the bushes a while ago.
Larry Talbot was the schlimazel who got turned into the Wolfman (played by Lon Chaney Jr) back in the 50s and 60s…
so since Dallas mentioned him putting eggs in those same pockets I gather that they are Pockets of holding
Not if you happen to like a little marinara with your deviled eggs.
Hrmmmmm…

Well played, my good sir, well played.
Wait, Narrative WIELDER? Didn’t he have that power taken away?
Yeah, I’m hoping this is gonna turn into a reveal that he still has that power inside him somehow. Sam could use a win and that whole abrupt stripping of it always bothered me. But it could just as easily be that this guy can just see the echoes of that previous power in him.

I call it! He was connnetd to Charlie! Or more likely to be conect to Charlie.
Hey, there had to be a “Nanny Ogg” somewhere in the Seasons Pantheon.
* I dislike this tweet because I am in it
I NEEEEEEEED and entire comic strip about Charlie’s adventures learning to become a wizard. AN ENTIRE COMIC!
