This is one of those times where the DM might consider allowing a minor one-time-only retcon, simply because it’s a cool idea. But that might also set a poor precedent, so…
If I had to guess, I’d say that Bret is about to point out that you can’t move and take an action as a readied action. There’s also a part in gaseous form that talks about not being able to move through liquids, which could be a problem once Burg’s all gaseous, surrounded by those stomach juices. But I’m gonna guess Brett wouldn’t nitpick that.
I wonder if it’s clarifying that Burg is technically still grappled since the form won’t automatically free somebody? (Though he does have advantage on the attempt)
I was thinking that Brett was going to say that Burg hasn’t managed to actually punch all the way though and get his fist clear of the worm.He said he punctured the stomach, but didn’t say he punctured the outer skin.
To be fair, ready action IS weird, considering most systems just allow you to delay your entire action until later in the initiative order. I keep getting caught on it.
When I read all these Karthun’s games I’m both glad that you are a gifted storyteller and that I gave up on AD&D early to focus on more narrative friendly universes or I would have given up DMin/playing quite early. All this rule-arguing is beyond my comprehension and interest until you explain and illustrate it.
I know that look in panel 4.
That’s the “you’ve just had an awesome idea, and I want to give it to you… but I can’t, and that sucks” look.
It’s too bad, too, ’cause Carlos could have done it if he’d moved up to the monster on his turn and *then* taken the Ready action to ready his spell.

I’m inclined to agree, on the presumption that the worm had neither a reaction or legendary action that it could use when Gul’ren approaches.
That’s the “you just provoked an attack and I’m sorry” look.

Oh yeah, I didn’t even think about grappling. I think I’ve permanently erased all grappling rules from my mind.

Sorry, Brett.
Duration concentration.
Oopsie, Carlos, should have moved on your actual turn.
There needs to be a public service announcement mascot for remembering important 5e rules, such as how the Ready action works.

I hear ya. When my players get savvy about trying to use it, I fully expect to be reminding them a lot. Well and good.
I really hope this works just so we can see if the worm farts or burps out a character!
“Point of order, Carlos. If he wants out he’s gonna have to wait for the wurm to fart.â€

Ditto. I’m enjoying this thoroughly in a way that I could not before at the table. Perhaps I need to find a new group.
Oh i had an idea what if the spell afected the worm so they could both escape it?
