Shattered Honor – Part Twelve
Chapter: Season Ten
Howdy Buckaroos! A few things:

~!~
I’m loving this current story arch!
oh brent please tell me you aren’t trying for a TPK
Brett.
And maybe.
Now that’s how a trap is supposed to be! Lethal. No piddling shaving off some hitpoints or concussion Points here and there; traps are supposed to either guarantee a kill, or a capture. My old group often reasoned thusly: “This trap is survivable and doesn’t actually trap you. Therefore, the trap is a deception to hide the real trap!”
Yes, we all grew up on Grimtooth’s…
I love non-lethal traps. A group of players set one off, on purpose, to see what was behind it. There was nothing behind it, it automatically reset, and they were completely entangled in web. Then they had to fight a group of enemies who were under a freedom of movement spell.
That said, there’s an awful lot of room on top of that crushing piston. But I don’t see her having jumped up there. Is a 12 enough dexterity for that?
Isn’t she a rogue of some sorts, so maybe the 12 was just the total rolled, still need to add the bonus?
If she escaped, based on that last panel, I don’t see how she managed it.
I think there’s a bit of space between the crusher and that door in the background, so she could easily have leaped back into the corridor she came from, or perhaps reached the door.
If she went for the door, there is also the possibility that the rest of the party didn’t have time to follow, so the group is now split up as the others have to find a different route to where she now is.
(Although if I was DMing here, I’d pick that as a fine time to have her bump into Charlie’s new character who conveniently got trapped in here when that door slammed down earlier. Then he gets to join in, and she’s not running the next trap gauntlet solo…) 😉
woof…let’s keep it going.
I like the little cliffhanger detail… the trap slams into the western wall with lethal force! But Brett doesn’t actually say that Annabelle has been caught in it. Well played, Brian!
Trevor seems to roll as badly as I do. To get 13 and 12 on ability check Annabelle should be proficient and using dexterity which should also one of her good stats, means that Trevor must have rolled quite low on his die rolls…
What level are the PCs?
Holy **** Brett. Starting out strong here. Honestly, my group doesn’t tend to use traps very often, we rarely do anything like a traditional dungeon crawl. My DM’s tend to go more for invisible monsters on the ceiling or magical explosives than mechanical threats when they do want to surprise the party.
Looks Like the trap was a SMASH HIT. and its CRUNCH time for Annabelle.
Again I guess Ill see my self out.
I love how the most important thing here is HOW Brett said what he said, and what he DIDN’T say. He said it slammed into the other wall with lethal force, he DID NOT say it slammed into HER with lethal force.
Granted, I’m not saying he is taking it easy on them, but a ‘by the skin of your neck’ avoidance of a OHKO trap early on sets the tone very, very well.
