Shattered Honor – Part Sixty-Seven
Chapter: Season Ten
Characters: Carlos
To be fair, I could have written this scene out to 3-4 parts. I love Gul’Ren and now there is perfect alignment. The Aspect is in trouble..
Also, I am throwing another reminder that it would help me out if you checked out my Patreon. It is the thing keeping the bills paid, but I exist on a razor’s edge currently and every little bit helps.
*takes deep breath*
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!
Hell yeah Carlos!
Brett is realizing a marriage between rules and role-playing. So much character growth.
And it’s amazing.
I’m not crying! *You’re* crying!
No-one else understands what they went through like each other.
Loving this entire arc so much.
Omg Gul’ Ren is a fusion I would like to be the frist of the Steven Universe fans to say SQQQQQQQQEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL also i think the should get a shadowy sailor moon transformation as they bust out of the cage.
Just as a reminder: *all* mages in Karthun are “fusions”. Do with that what you will.
True but this moment resonated really well and it made me geek out.
Ok. I love that idea but I’ll raise you an ANIMATED transformation gif for Gul’ren.
Dear sweet Gygax that is to cool!
I know it so awesome!
Literally got goosebumps and chills.
Carlos. (I need) you to make a Wisdom saving throw.
Fixed! Woo!
I absolutely love the way you have Carlos not stutter when he roleplays, like because he imagines himself as someone else, he overcomes it. Many stutterers I have met also seem to overcome the stutter by singing the verses. Also, signed up for patreon, hope my little bit helps!
Once again, Carlos brings out the Crowning Moment of Awesome.
TYPO alert: second-to-last panel, first text box: “Carlos. You to make […]” … I think that “to” should be “can”, or else there’s something (“need”, perhaps) missing between “You” and “to”. 🙂
Nonetheless, STELLAR installment …!
Fixed! Thank you!
And here… we… GO
Inner harmony achieved – time for utter outer mayhem!
Love the comic and the arc! Brian you are truly a gifted storyteller.
Last panel should it be “which roars into your mind”
Love the idea of giving advantage for great roleplaying scenes! Definitely going to try that out on my players.
Brian, have you considered doing trade paperbacks for D20 Monkey? If you have or plan to, I would definitely buy them all – and I’m willing to bet a lot of your other readers would too.
It’s actually directly in the rules for 5e (which karthun is based on)
Ah. I’ve played every version of D&D, but after playing and running 4th, 5th just wasn’t my cup of tea, so I don’t really recall much about it. *Hides from lynch mob*
Oh yeah, Blueberry is back, with a vengeance! 😀
I’ve really been enjoying your comic lately, esp. this arc. Signed on for PATREON.
I gotta say, every time Carlos shows up I like him more and more. He’s such a great character. This was excellent, and that speech definitely earned that inspiration. Thanks for the comic.
Brian – Last Panel. Should it say “which quiets to a strong, harmonic presence” rather than “with quiets”? Or am I not reading it right?
No it’s right. Think of it this way: “The shadow elemental (that Gul has shared a tumultuous existence with) quiets to a strong harmonic presence.”
Thanks Bride. Makes sense to me now that I read that way 🙂
“With Advantage, because that was Awesome”
I am so going to do this next time someone in my group does some awesome roleplay… if I remember… because it might be a while.
I’m not sure if I could convince you Brian, but here goes….
I know you’re planning on ending the story of these gamers (in 10months, if I remember right), but I feel you could still tell the stories of Gul, the Dwellow brothers and Annabelle and take them on new adventures.
I really enjoy your storytelling. You do great work, sir.
Some tricks to make Roleplay something more inticing for the Gamer side of the players. Note to DMs, don’t make it clear your doing it as it triggers them sometimes.
1: Give the Advantage for RP.
2: Lower that DC
3: Have them roll, but as long as its not a single digit, it succeds.
Using these behind the shield and you might find that dice have less and less value in your games as your players evolve their RP skills. Sure, we all love rolling dice, but don’t forget, your the DM, its always up to you on how much those matter…
Great stuff Brian. As I’ve previously commented you could bundle up Brett’s panels from this arc into a guide for newbie GMs.
I’ve long been a proponent of a bad skill check not necessarily being a failure but instead a small success with unintended consequences.
Beautiful RP and exposition there. Rock on!
