Shattered Honor – Part Ninety-Eight
This session started one way and has taken some big turns in the final moments.
Jeanie is the full-time DM for the campaign, and Brett is the guest DM, so of course we wants to check in and make sure these moves are ok.
As for the half-marid tidbit on Dwayla. Here is a link to 5e marids, with the understanding that her father is royalty and both he and Dwayla have unique powers.

It is almost over. Thank you for sticking around for the long arc. I hope you enjoyed it.
I love that last panel, the sultan can tell this is gonna be good.
I don’t know enough about the lore to say, but a Marid seems like a natural enemy of an Ifrit, so maybe he’s happy about it for that reason too.
Marid are water Djinn he knows EXACTLY who she is the daughter of an enemy he gets to *** up by following the rules and not screwing over the wisher
I mean, he could always kill both of them by telefragging the both of them. He did say “this exact spot”.
It wouldn’t surprise me should Sam, speaking for Calvis, be pointing to a space on the map when saying “this exact spot”, and we just don’t see it because we’re in the perspective of the game.
He seems like the kinda guy who respects getting revenge on those who wronged you.
I don’t want it to be over
MTE! Been loving this so much
Agreed. Thank us for sticking around? Thank you for giving us this to enjoy.
for the record that link takes you to a purchase page if you don’t already own the book on dndbeyond.
Showtime for the Nine Lives Stealer?
Seems highly likely!

this has been AMAZING and inspiring. I went back and ready everything tagged “Karthun” last week and have been loving every page. Thank you so much.
I would be happy with just nothing but d&d sessions! These are fantastic.
Tell your story how you see fit. I prefer a story with everything filled, not the Cliff Notes.
it makes sense. since Efreeti are Fire Jinn and Marid are Water Jinn, that he would particularly delight in causing one pain and agony (three breaths away from death)
It’s been a great ride, I’m excited to see how it all comes together!
To this EXACT spot you say, Calvis? You mean…the one you’re currently occupying? If you insist…
Nah. Like others have observed – Ifrit and Marid are enemies. The Lost Sultan, especially, probably has a serious hate-on for any and all Marid nobility … which means, the Sultan gets to hurt one of them (through their daughter Dwayla) _BUT_ can say to that Marid: “hey, I had to give that mortal his wishes – no choice in the matter for me. Sorry – biz is biz. You know how it works.”
He’s smiling, because he expects to enjoy granting that wish. (Also, he’s evil, and the “painful” and “gravely wounded” parts are probably going to be enjoyable to him, on their own merits.)
This is literally one of the safest kinds of wishes you can make: something the granter WANTS to happen, at least partly. Especially something the granter will _enjoy_ fulfilling.
Perzactly. Or even just ‘ooh, that sounds interesting’. The Sultan probably enjoyed the heck out of the ‘smash the Aspect’ wish. Alignment of the wish-granter isn’t a barometer of how much they will screw you on the wishes, but what *sort* of wishes they will screw you for.
Mmm… Calvis still owe Dwayla a wish. At least I presume so since “get me the rug” was the second one and those things tend to come in threes. And Calvis didn’t fulfill the second wish, so there might be room for Dwayla giving him some sort of penalty wish?
That said, it might be a problem easily solved by sticking his fingers in his ears while loudly chanting “I CAN’T HEAR ANYTHIIIIING” as Annabelle gets to chopping her up with the nine-lives stealer.
If she’s even conscious enough to wish anything because I think the “three breaths away from death” mean that she’d be at 0 HP and rolling for death saves.
He still owes her two actually – by her reckoning at least. Her wish was for *him* to acquire the rug for her. She did it herself using them as a distraction, so the wish technically wasn’t fulfilled.
Yeah, that’s about what I thought. I just wondered if Calvis could argue that the wish has been made so she can’t change it, and there is no time limit for him to do it, so he could still track down her buyer to take the rug from them and then give it to Dwayla to fulfill the wish.
Here’s hoping “this exact spot” doesn’t splinch the two into one another
I really don’t get why the GM would ask a player “Is this okay?” in a situation such as this. “Painfully” teleported seems interesting though. Hm, maybe Calvis will bargain with Dwayla? He could Wish her into the bottle after all…
Read the blog post under the comic. Jeanie is the actual DM of this campaign. Brett is doing a guest spot and didn’t want to take things too far and potentially mess up an long-term plans.
I particularly appreciated the way Brett and Jeannie were shown to communicate with just a look and a smile. Simpatico spouses FTW.
There are ways Jeanie can adapt this should Dwayla suffer the consequences of her actions. And the Sultan looks like he is enjoying himself a great deal. There is some long-game stuff going down.
“Enjoying himself”? He thinks it’s CHRISTMAS.
Oh, hell yeah…
The face on the Sultan… so good.
I’m going to ugly cry like a newborn when this is over. For probably 7 days. Straight. I’ve prepped the saline IV to keep my liquids up during that time.
The page is fantastic as always Brian, Hope your feeling better!
Also, The maniacal grin on the sultan’s face was enough to make me grin like a maniac.
and the walk out buys you some thinking time, nice….
