Brett’s doing such a good job! Checking in on Carlos and giving him all that context for why such an action was good even if the results are less than ideal is great.
I’m very worried about the Profane Foundry, though. That shit doesn’t sound good at all.
It’s been mentioned that the dwarf ghost that was a contemporary of this dungeon’s creation predated the events that turned the dwarves into evil slavers. This is just Acerak’s work probably. Though the dwarf king that let him build it and probably provided the materials for it probably was a piece of work too. Actually, hell, who knows if he’s even still in the same structure? He could be on the other side of the continent, about to unleash an apocalypse on some unsuspecting kingdom. Teleports are fun that way. Anyways, hopefully he’s got some crazy Knowledge Arcana checks and can use that and what he has on his person to disrupt the runes draining the life out of him somehow lol.
Huh. Now I’m really curious what Brett was rolling for with this. Could he have ended up somewhere else? Where *does* slowly getting drained of life to fuel an infernal hell factory fall on the range of results from this portal? Probably one of the worse results given Brett’s reaction to his dice. Can’t wait to see what happens here.
I’m a bit behind, but the first panel is probably my favorite, if only because he’s reassuring Carlos that ‘Someone had to take the risk, and you did a good thing. You aren’t instadead, but here’s the situation you find yourself in.’ He’s making all the right moves for this situation, and while it’s not exactly a reward, it’s nice when the GM says ‘Thank you for not muddilng about and getting the plot pushed forward.’
Bit of exact wording there: “Gul is likely deader than hell.” Ren, the elemental, is not mentioned. Hence, Ren is either somehow imprisoned elsewhere, is already dead, or is somehow repelled by the mechanisms of the portal.
I don’t usually comment on the mechanics of the stories I read here and in other webcomic but I’ve got to tell you that the middle panel of the bottom row of so amazing that it truly blows my mind. It moves in response to the movement of my phone. It gives a marvelous and strong sense of something bizarre going on, but so subtly that I managed to miss the effect on not just one. but three different read through. (Yeah, I’m one of those people that goes back over and over stories, sometimes to refresh my memory, others because I’ve run my list of comics I like, or in the rare case where the artist did something mind bogglingly fantastic and I missed it. When you finish this off, not only will I look forward to seeing your future efforts, but I’ll likely keep the link to read yet again.
My profane foundry is always lit.
I wish I could like or heart or clover or whatever this comment…
Just gently caress your mouse, phone, or whatever you”re using to read the comic. I’ll know.
That’s where candy corn come from…
My first thought was about the designer of this. “Can I interest you in profane, or profane accessories? Taste the crit, not the hit.”
Brett has some serious DM chops for a first timer – ignore the Brian behind the curtain and his years of experience 😉
Another great installment, in a fantastic story arc in a continuing sequence of amazing story arcs
Are you sure it’s not the Pro-Fun Foundry?
Mind-screw time for Carlos/Gul-ren methinks. He’s got to get out of that place, if it’s the last thing he’ll ever do.
Props to Brett (Brian) for managing for replace the Orb of Annihilation with something better.
Nonsense! I love these types of pages.
Make no mistake I love your art and depictions of the action, but I also love giant blocks of story too.
So, keep it all up!
*googles Profane foundry*….no results. BRENT IS GOING OFF BOOK!! OH S#!T
Hell yeah Brent, good job managing player MH. <3
And THAT is how you do being a good DM.
“A bad thing has happened, you’re not completely screwed, but it’s gonna be a big plot point.”

Recall that the dwarves in this setting are evil slavers. This place was sealed for a damn good reason.

*makes notes*
Brett is so making me wanna get my own campaign a going… Hope I can be half as awesome as he’s doing here.

This is amazing, Brian! I want Brett to be my DM. 🙂
The lights come up: it’s the North Pole toy factory!
Hey, have you SEEN the toys out there lately?

“if the Party doesn’t get there shit together Gul is likely Deader than hell”
So Carlos should start making a new character is what i am getting.
