Is Gul’ren an Illyn, or are the markings a Magebound thing?
Magebound take on characteristics of the elementals they are bound with, but Gul’ren is a unique case and his markings are more pronounced/ornate.
Gul’ren after he gets out of immediate range and has most of his slots still available:

I love Gul’ren’s face in the first panel. The low detail look of pure concern is gold.

Due to poor choice of reading device, it took me way too long to realize that background element in the first panel was our boy. Oh boy.
