Running Man
I can’t exactly place why the third panel in today’s offering cracks me up every time I look at it but such is the case.
I’ve known gamers like Brett who believe that running from every encounter or challenge presented during a gaming session still counts as overcoming it. It’s true, on the DM side of things (where I tend to live 99% of the time) that I present encounters designed to teach players when to run but guys like Brett take it to a new level.
The coming weeks should be pretty exciting as several projects I’m involved with will be announced and a few products I’ve been lucky enough to work on will hit stores. It’s always nice after a long stretch of NDA-laiden work to finally be able to run my mouth about some thing going on here behind the scenes.

Here’s hoping WotC came to their senses about your shirt idea!
Yeah, that attitude drives me crazy. Which part of “hero” did you not understand?
I did recently come across a story where a party ran from an encounter. They rested up, geared up, and came back. In the meantime, the DM had leveled up the monster, because he’d gotten the XP for making an entire party of adventurers flee!
…..I’m so going to do that to my group now.
“wait, why’s that dragon seem bigger?”
‘he leveled. took a feat for accelerated growth. roll for initiative. oh, and his dmg roll for breath weapon went up one step. enjoy the d8’s. shouldn’t have let him eat the town.’
My reactions:
What level is the Dungeon Dwelling Sprinting Bear monster?
Oh look, a running gag.
Is this a “Bear” Essentials campaign?
Looks like Brett better just grin and “bear” it.
Okay…I’m done.
Bear puns are very POLARizing things.
My uncle once made a pun. The audience turned on him and he met a grizzly end.
I (had my character) ran from an epic battle once. I guess that was back in ’98. I thought the rest of the party was going to be right behind me. I regret it to this day.
It’s sheer PANDAmonium in the dungeon today!
Days like today make me realize why I leave the comments on. LOL. Awesome
These puns are unbearable.
I think it’s amazing Ursus arctos horriblis is able to run that fast on his bear feet.
This is turning into a CAT-tastrophy…………….damn it!
Bears can run crazy fast. I never have seen once flick the bird tho. Thats impressive.
I remember the first time one of our parties ran from an encounter. It was a giant mithral golem armed with the something like a maul of the titans. Even though we had a high level party we knew there was nothing we could do to it. If we had stayed it would have been a TPK.
That’s not really fair to Brett, though; knowing what’s going on with Sam like he does, I think this situation falls under a genre-savvy “know when to fold ’em”.
