Redwoods
Chapter: Season Five
I’m fighting the urge to start a Donner spin-off series. Also, in my head, Donner sounds like Chris Rock.
Thanks for your patience on posts, everyone. With my step into full-time freelance and comics, there is a little adjustment period and I’m working hard on a few deadlines. Normal business is resuming soon.
HOVER-TEXT: You’d think Cupid would be the smooth talker but never discount age, experience, and a total lack of fucks to give when it comes to social graces.
I’m prepared to solely fund the Donner spinoff series. You have me intrigued, where do I send the blank check?
Maybe its just me but in that first panel it looks like she is starting to compliment herself.
Now, that’s the only way I can read this comic.
Nevermind now, he fixed it.
Thanks Brian.
I’m with The Doctor on this one, first panel is kind of confusing.
I imagined him to sound like Michael Dorn. Tried to make him sound like Chris Rock in my head, but… nope.
Michael Dorn works too!
Chris Rock works with the dialogue, but now that Erik said Dorn, Donner = Klingon voice seems more fitting.
Given the reaction I kind of want to go with Isaac Hayes.
Dorner?
Stop fightin’ that urge, Brian!
I was hearing Red Foxx.
but if you want to ruin it, Gilbert Gottfried as the voice.
Why would you do that to … to anyone? Heeeeey Laaaaadyyyyy!
I’m dying! Thank you, that is just amazing.
Or Judge Doom (Christopher Lloyd’s character from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)
That legitimately made me laugh!
Me too! π π π
“Ohh. My. God!” Just imaging him saying everything as Iago the Parrot from Aladdin. π
I have figured out what your third spinoff comic should be.
A once a week strip that’s basically whatever side character you’re in the mood to write/draw that week, usually one off jokes or short stories. Like Donner’s Zero Fucks, or Pops and Larry’s Adventures in Debauchery, or Working Hard – The Boner Fairy Story.
No lie, I kinda love this idea.
Brian, if you weren’t aware, the webcomic “Looking For Group” (lfgcomic.com – Ryan Sohmer & Lar Desouza) have started a side story set that revolves around the NPCs (http://www.lfg.co/npc/tale/1-1/). Likely not the direction that Kirby or you had in mind, but it is an interesting format for fleshing out side characters, such as Pops, without detracting from the main story’s regular schedule.
Since you can be as shallow or deep in exploring these side characters as is appropriate at the time (even one-offs like the boner fairy haha) may allow more flexibility.
As a thought, if you did poke around at Kirby’s idea, why not just keep it a simple black/white – grey scale so it is easier to fit into your already bustling schedule. It would also give those strips a visual uniqueness.
I don’t think you hear this enough, fantastic comic, keep up the amazing work. I have been enjoying the ride (dick jokes and all).
Woohoo, I had a good idea!
Hmmm, a guy named Kirby and good ideas for comics…..
Why does that sound familiar…?
π
If you aren’t referring to Jack Kirby, I will be sadly disappointed.
Funny factoid, caribou (AKA reindeer) males lose their antlers during the winter months and grow new in the spring. Both male and female reindeer have antlers, but it’s only the male that shed them. What that basically tells us is that Santa’s reindeer are in fact all female.
Santa has flying reindeer who talk. I don’t think logic and reason are gonna kick in for reindeer antler shedding season.
That’s exactly how I heard it, even before reading the comments.
Yeah, if this Donner spin-off ever happens I’m so there.
I read it like chris tucker before he mentioned chris rock.
Fact check: There are technically no redwoods in Yosemite; it is too far from the coast. Yosemite has giant sequoias, which are related to the coast redwood, but are not themselves redwoods.
This gives a new meaning to Donner’s comment, if you consider that the “redwoods in Yosemite” are not thick at all…
So in making that comment he was being thicker than the redwoods in Yosemite?
Sorry, I know I’m late to the “commenting on the vocie you heard” party. But I read Donner’s voice as Eddie Murphy. The dragon Mushu from Mulan and/or Donkey from Shrek
