Final Fantasy XIV is better in my opinion. If only for the fact that it is on PS4 and wouldn’t require me spending about a thousand dosh on a gaming PC and another 200 or so on the game itself before the subscription. That and I like the idea of multi-classing to hell with every fragging class in the game.
Now, seeing this from Sam’s point of view, I can see how he may want to step away from GM/DMing for a bit. Get some perspective and maybe even reinvigorate his love for running games. It certainly doesn’t help when you have sour grapes like Dove haranging (Not spelled right, I know) constantly because they are sore losers.
My husband will hit these moods sometimes, he’s usually the GM for our groups, and loves when he gets to play in games. It’s those little nagging voices in the back of your head saying ‘Are they REALLY enjoying the game?’ that get to you.
But, maybe he needs a little break, but what he also needs is positive reinforcement of his skills from those that KNOW him. Dallas should be contacted and made aware so she can at least, potentially, tell Sam that it’s not his fault that she’s going through what she is.
Seriously though, sometimes you just need to step out from behind the screen and be a player. It gives you some time to recharge your GM batteries and remember to have fun. IT’S A GAME! THAT’S THE POINT OF IT!
I’ve felt that way numerous times before. Maybe we’ll get to see other people GM for a while, but I am hoping to see Sam get some epic invigoration. He’s had a lot of crap happen to him that comes largely undeserved, maybe a break will be good for him
classic case of burn out. I mean in nearly every game we see on here he’s the DM. I’ve hit patches like this. the two best things to do are one, step back from gaming for a bit and relax with Netflix and your girl to recharge yourself. or two, let someone else try their hand at it and play their campaign.
We’ve got at least 3 GM’s in my group, the one that’s been doing it the longest has stepped from behind the screen…and is playing..and can’t quite adjust to not being the one in control at times
aannndd just like that we are on Code Yellow. I understand needing to step away from the screen for a tad, but an MMO is not the way to go. What he needs is a healthy book, maybe a movie, and 2 Seasons of Code Monkeys. and if all else fails: we break “it” out.
To Jeanie, here is the fix…
Step one: Slap Sam (it is a game stupid)
Step two: Remind Sam that just because a character dies doesn’t mean you didn’t have fun playing.
Step three: remind Sam that everyone had fun last session AND was fast to let Carlos know a TPK was not a big deal. (or anyones fault for that matter)
Step four: MAYBE offer sam a break, in my group all of us take turns running games just because there are times when anyone of us will not feel like GMing. I say maybe because it seems like Sam is taking this way too serious and he might just need to get back on the horse before his fears get out of hand.
Step five: give Sam a BJ. (she should repeat Step five as often as possible, ask any guy he will agree it helps any amount of stress)
That’s just Amy being Amy. She’s quirkily formal in her interactions and diction, like calling Sam “Samuel”. Identifying herself on a text message is exactly the kind of thing that Amy does.
HOVER-TEXT: But seriously guys, that new Legion expansion looks pretty cool…

I just wanted to say…FOR PONY!!!!!!!!!!
That is all.
(except your picture is awesome)
Jeannie and the GM Friend crew, ASSEMBLE!!!!

Like I said…..
Jeannie and the GM Friend crew, ASSEMBLE!!!!
Except that Dallas totally does blame Sam. He’s the one who convinced her to come out as a girl, and she blames her game failing on that.
I say the IGS needs to intervene.
I concur. All in favor?

None of the other players want to try running a game themselves, even for one session? Mind you, a Brett game could be kind of terrifying.
Yesss, give into the terror, harness it. Stoke the fires of Paranoia, Friend Computer Demands it.
Love Jeanie’s new hair!

Oh no, Sam, emotional downturns and MMOs are a baaaaad combination.
Jeanie, lookin’ good. I think I remember a sketch with this hairstyle being kept on the backburner for her appearance.
now to get mel back in and chew sam’s sorry ass for trying to give up

I don’t think I’ve ever re subbed when I was in a good way
I mean, you can buy game time with in-game gold now…..
Dont do it!!!!

Code Red! We’ve got a Code Red! Invoke DEFCON 2 and summon the allies! We need backup STAT!

oops I meant to write to Amy…
Dang, and here I thought we were heading for a REALLY twisty arc.
Thankfully my GM hasn’t hit burnout yet but he knows that if he needs a break, that I will gladly step behind the screen for a few sessions.
This is why we have troupe style gaming to rotate out GMs and avoid burnout.
Doesn’t Jeanie also DM? Maybe she could take over for awhile?
Not sure if this is the proper place to mention this, but I attempted to sign up in Patreon to give you money, and I received this error:
Become a patron to {{ viewModel.preloadedCreatorData.creatorFullName }}
Not sure if this is a problem with Patreon in general, or just with your Patreon, but I figured you might want to know. I’ll try again later.
OK, I love Jeanie and I think the new haircut is rad. But FFS, does she have to change it every 6 months?
Yes, because it’s her hair and she can do whatever the hecky she wants to it 😀
Everyone gets GM burnout once in a while, the best thing is to take a breather
Yup. Let someone else run game for a while.
Behold: the origin story of LEEEEEEEEEEROOOOOY JENNNNNNNNKINNNNNNS
btw, does Jeanie not have caller ID? Why does Amy have to introduce herself?
I get the feeling that the crew is in their mid-to-late twenties. So, most of them probably grew up without Caller ID. Probably force of habit.
I had the impression that it wasn’t a call but a text — something Amy could do *in Sam’s presence* without him being fully aware of it.
That’s just Amy being Amy. She’s quirkily formal in her interactions and diction, like calling Sam “Samuel”. Identifying herself on a text message is exactly the kind of thing that Amy does.
Heck, she appended her name to her own sext to Sam during the Dungeon Run.
Exactly. Amy being Amy.
I have this odd feeling that Amy is making this call immediately after Sam mentioned the WOW accounts. Like, didn’t even bother to leave the room.
Yeah, I have the same reaction when someone considers returning to WoW.
