Since it’s a homebrew, Carlos may have worked with Jeanie to make some spells to add originality to the character. Beyond that, even though he made the system, Sam may not remember every portion of his creation.
I think he’s just adding his own special flavor to it by renaming all of his spells, or at least using flavorful names for his verbal components, which he is roleplaying. Incidentally, I love Carlos, he is a fanfreakintastic roleplayer, carry on good sir.
I cast Darkness sounds way more boring than shouting, ‘We summon The Veil of Ebonset!’ in an arcane voice.
Sam’s original ideas seemed to be focused on elemental mages – fire, water, earth, air. I wouldn’t put it past Carlos and Jeanie to work out some dark-mage specific stuff just so Sam doesn’t know what everything is.
Reminds me of something in 13th Age. I think it is a feat or a wizard class feature that gives you a small bonus if you give all your standard spells overly long, complicated, and/or alliterative renames.
Creates his own cool-sounding spell names? Check. Awesome hand gestures? Check. Speaking in character at all times whenever possible? Check? Is Carlos a totally awesome role player? CHECK.
You got to know when to hold ’em…… know when to fold ’em. Know when to walk away, and know when to run. You never fight lycanthropes, when you don’t got silver….
Carlos comes across like an underdog, but his instincts as a gamer are of high caliber. He even seems to impress Sam, which says a lot, at least to me.
Damn right that is a Doctor Strange hand motion. It’s classic as fuck.
Do not Mess with the classics.
wait. why wouldn’t he know that spell he created karthun

This right here. It’s Carlos adding his own flavor text.
I like it. I RP well but renaming spells to fit my character isn’t something I’d ever considered. Strong work!
Seriously try it next time you feel comfortable doing, people will think you’re the most fancy wizard ever come to wizard town.
*this also goes for getting descriptive with your fighter’s slick moves.

Check back to Carlos’ character intro, it’s pretty sweet and unique.

Damn, Carlos, that is some top-notch rpg. Two thumbs way, WAY up.

Carlos.
Yes.
That is all.
You want Advantage? Because that’s how you get Advantage right there.
Everybody loves Matt Jackson here. He is a pal.
