So how old are these characters? Because I was thinking mid-twenties, but Brett looks like he’s at least a teenager in 1995, if not older, so I guess not.
Rough guess? Somewhere between mid-twenties and mid-thirties. (Sam’s gotta be pretty young, honestly – he was just starting to get an actual job back when the strip was first getting started, in 2010/2011.)
Sam, Charlie, and Brett were all in High School at the same time, though it’s not 100% apparent if they were all in the same grade at the same time. If I was to ball park the group’s age, I’d say they’re in their early or mid thirties. If Brett was born in 1980, he’d have been 15 when My So Called Life was cancelled. It also fits all the games they played as kids, like ET for the atari.
As for Sam just getting a job, it’s been implied that, up until he started developing the narrative and standing up for himself, he’s been bouncing around a whole bunch of things, not really committing to anything up until the Dragon’s Den.
Come to think of it, a question for our author: what year is this supposed to be? The Christmas arcs give an impression of each year turning like clockwork, but other storylines make it seem like very, very little time has passed over all; a matter of months at most.
It’s a good show, though those last few episodes are a leading cause of emotional whiplash. Really, Brett has a good reason to be pissed about it cancellation. That said, if a show goes on too long, the networks will figure out a way to ruin it, so perhaps it was for the best.
In the words of a certain movie Knight’s Tale, “You have been judged, and you have been found wanting… ” But then I just had to say that since you said don’t you are judge me, saying something like that deserves a challenge, even if its offered jokingly…
More and more, I am convinced the guy who does this comic knows me, and has based Brett off my life, including some very questionable hair style choices in high school.
HOVER-TEXT: I totally had a thing for Angela Chase. DON’T YOU DARE JUDGE ME.
Angela Chase is the reason I love Claire Danes.
pretty much
Throw me on the pile that I will watch just about anything Claire Danes is in because of Angela Chase.
I shall judge you raggedy man!
why would i I did too
So, is that the studio/management building burning? Or is it brett going SSJ for the first time?
Wow that is pretty crazy rage.
I am both impressed and horrified by that mullet Brent’s sporting.
That’s not a mullet. That’s Brent going Super Sayian.
HAHA this made me laugh, great line.
Go, Super Saiyan 3 mullet!
HA! I knew Brent was a massive douche in the past, only a douchebag can sport a mullet like that.
And so was his hair!

Brett looks like he’s going Super Saiyan in the second panel. I’m just…saiyan.
Ok I’m done with the bad jokes.
OK. I’ll admit it. I love young rocker Brett.
OK, for some reason, I really want to check this show out now…

Heh…. He kinda looks like Joe Dirt’s fat, angry brother.
I always preferred Rayanne, she had d12s for earrings.
