Beginner’s mistake, you don’t replace your weapons, you just add new weapons. I mean, what’s better, having an ax of having an ax AND a nightstick? Also, always bring a backup weapon. And a backup backup weapon.
Different weapons require different styles of fighting. Choosing one you don’t know how to wield will be more likely to damage you and your allies rather than just your enemies. Skills with a baton will sort of translate to the mace, and an axe would work for someone accustomed to chopping their own firewood. Guns are unreliable in the hands of someone untrained (even changing gun type can seriously throw off your aim and be a hazard in a fight where every shot needs to count) and a sword in the hands of a novice is likely to end up in the hands of the enemy. I’d guess Carlisle would be best off with the mace, an axe or one of the knives. I’d pick at least two weapons. These are likely blessed to make them more effective against otherworldly threats while her baton is not. Keep the baton as a last desperation option.
That helmet would look good on her I think. From what we can see the short sword to the right would probably be the closest in handling to Betty Jean, though of course any of the others could still suit her fancy.
Though tempting, that pistol would need some TLC before I’d trust it in combat.
IS that a blanket? Only thing I could see that looked “soft” looked like rope to me. (Which is, admittedly, another thing one could use for the boogeyman!)
Hmm, tempted by the katana.
Although, I wanna see what’s in the boxes first.
Any explosives? In Call of Cthulhu combat situations, the Path of Henderson is the True Path… 😀
Ah yes, game mechanics. In real life this would be, “I will get you equipped with a weapon that you have never held and probably have no idea how to actually use as opposed to the one that you are trained with and I have just watched you use most effectively.” I’d actually love to see a player do that. Just do a once over of the weapon rack pointing out everything they can’t use.
There’s a couple of wrapped handles, down low between the chest and the shelves, that may be better cudgels – maces or similar, perhaps. Those should be similar enough to Betty Jean.
Honestly, while these ladies seem well off, not sure they are rich enough to eat babies. Has no one here read A Modest Proposal? Baby eating is for landlords and nobility!
I’ve been watching too much Forged in Fire recently (or not enough, depending on your viewpoint.) Looking at the three axes all I can think looking a the jagged edges of the two is that, while they look suitable wicked, those “V” shaped cuts into the edges are stress risers just waiting to crack the blade.
I’m delighting myself with a rapid-fire read through of this whole series. A well written and drawn webcomic is always worth reading again, and as I’ve no other outlets for gaming, this helps satisfy a hunger while I wait out the plague.
Abigail’s name is misspelled in panel 4. Also, Betty Jean definitely needs an upgrade. A giant axe head should do it.
Or maybe just replace her with that rounded mace in the middle.

having an ax or*
Also, different types of weapon: slashing, piercing, bludgeoning, radiant…

Of course Beatrice doesn’t eat them.
… after all, where else is she going to get her spell components from?
… But in all seriousness? Having a stick with metal at the end of it might suit Carlisle a little more.
I want my baby-back, baby-back, baby-back ribs…
I am immediately reminded of a scene from the ridiculously bad movie Tremors…
“YOU BARGED INTO THE WRONG REC-ROOM!”
Aw, “Tremors” was a humorous horror masterpiece! Right up there with “Evil Dead 2.”
Oh goodie they opened the toy chest
Oh my.
Welcome to the fungeon, we got things that maim.
Before I scrolled down I thought the comedy beat at the end of the first row of panels was the end of the comic. (It was a good beat to break on.)
But I’m glad it kept going, because we got to see all the awesome (and no doubt incredibly dangerous) weapons today instead of later.

Okay, it’s not the “gun room” from “The Matrix,” but pretty good for the times.
Note the folded blanket on the shelf for dealing with boogeymen.

Betty Jean IS more than enough.
… but the more overkill Carlisle can bring, the better! Betty Jean just needs some company, that’s all.

“I DON’T eat BABIES”
they make too good a soap to waste…
