tis not easy when injured. hopefully the painkillers won’t affect his DM playing style and mellow out the encounters effect and NPC’s personalities.
Well… if it wouldn’t affect the DMing it wouldn’t be part of this arc, would it?
Drug-N-Go love it!!!
You never know how long 20 minutes is until you are waiting for the pharmacist to fill your Vicodin prescription while your body tells you what it thinks of the car accident you were in not two hours before.
The Karthun game is about to get AWESOME when Sam starts tripping!
is that tripping, or Stripping with a type o?
….I am now in favor of your typo theory.
It looks like he only took one pill. How is he going to start tripping? I’ve never taken enough Oxy to trip, and I have taken 4 pills at once, and at one point when things were really bad, twenty in a day!
What you aren’t seeing is that it’s Drug N Gophers, the last letters are hidden behind the bottle. They sell the BEST gopher steaks!
Not entirely sure why, but the little links below the comic to go back, forward, etc aren’t showing up, at least on mobile. Just a heads up.
I know that feeling as a DM, not wanting to be on pain meds that make you loopy. Interested to see where this goes.
Weird…can confirm on PC, too.
Oh, I was wondering what was wrong with my browser, but then I’m not just incredibly lame – or at least not alone.
There is indeed an issue. Working on it now and thanks for the heads up all!
not to mention the worries many have of becoming addicted
When pain meds are used as intended, for pain relief, it’s very unlikely the person will become addicted. There’s a lot of misinformation about pain med addiction, and it hurts the people who need the pain relief more than the people who abuse prescription pain meds. They can find something else to get high on; law-abiding people with chronic pain don’t have other sources of pain relief.
Didn’t mean to go off like that, and it’s not aimed at you. I just feel very strongly about the subject.
Yup, but that assumes that you only take them in the dosage required for your pain level. I don’t like feeling high and so have to be talked into taking meds when my pain level is on the border line. I’m also fortunate enough to have a really good doctor whom pays attention to how often I need my script filled and so knows I’m not abusing it.
yeah same here, at least you can click on the right side of the comic to go forward and that gets you there
I once ran a Firefly RPG session on Ny-Quil.
Didn’t last long.
“Shiiiinyyyy…. ” *thud*
Of course, if it had been the old formulation, then forget it. That stuff used to be *potent*. REALLY strong. We are talking ‘drink while sitting on the edge of your bed otherwise you will *not* make it’ levels of strong.
NyQuil, the nighttime sniffling sneezing stuffy head what the *hell* am I doing waking up on the kitchen floor mecdicine.
I used to have…let’s call them “problems” with my NyQuil use as a young’un. You’re right – that stuff would knock you out. “Chasing the Green Dragon” indeed.
I hope we’re not being set-up for a Sam abusing pain-killers ARC
Well adventurers, I think it’s time to hold onto your butts.
As someone who has never had a reason to be on Pain Medication, I can say that I have an idea of how badly it can affect a person over time.
As a player who once ate a “Moon Brownie”, I can say that any session in which a player or a DM is inebriated is going to be A. very funny, or B. a major disappointment.
I was lucky enough to discover vicodin isnt an addictive substance for me, or even one that significantly affects me in any other way than pain reduction
Lucky you. I was on it for a mere *two days* and when I was off it, my brain would occasionally pipe up with ‘Hey, why don’t we have another one of those pills?’. Seriously messed up.
Yea, I was very, very lucky. I only needed it when in severe pain, and I would take it and feel better, then just go on about my day, no highness, no loopiness….which made me happy as it had been something I had worried about.
Now….caffeine on the other hand……..
Oddly, Vicodin barely even does pain relief for me. What it does do is make it easier to sleep.
Not something that mixes well with depression, really.
That’s exactly how it’s supposed to work.
oh snap, this could have been me a few times when I was doing the DM thing in more than one campaign and on pain killers. Nothing out there like the extreme pain of broken while your trying to run a campaign and the pain just gets worse and worse till you either want to scream or go blind. Their is also nothing like doing a campaign while your high on pain killers, often your entire group isn’t even sure what the heck went down when everything is done because the pain killers totally boned the storyline…
For myself being on permanent pain meds (for multiple injuries) I can say it sucks but it’s better than having pain levels going beyond 10 making you puke because you hurt that bad…..
The other direction can be a problem too…I have such a high tolerance for pain, I have had surgery and not needed painkillers, but the trade off is I can end up with a migraine and not feel it, but I’ll be debilitated with the other symptoms and no one will believe me because I’m not in pain.
My migraine is due to the bullet they left in my head, plus having one left in my side and the through and through in my arm….. Also the old knife wounds, herniated discs and several other reminders, I also have a high tolerance to pain but you can only last so long fighting it unless you have something to relieve the pain at times…..
Okay, I’ll bite. What happened to you?
I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to be offensive or anything. When I say “high tolerance”, what I mean is, I don’t feel high levels of pain, but the pain still causes other effects.
Oof I hope he doesn’t have my reaction to hydrocodone. That stuff makes me sick as a dog.
Tune in for a “very special episode” of D20 Monkey…
Sigmund Freud refused painkillers when he was dying of mouth cancer, because he couldn’t write on morphine.
i’ve never run a game on drugs, but i designed the game world i’ve been using for more than ten years based on vivid dreams induced by a bad reaction to meds i was on.
…on the other hand, my so-called “real” self* is a chronic pain patient due to a cancerous, fractured vertebra. Sometimes, you’re better off taking the medication than being distracted or disabled by pain.
These are powerful drugs, though. Finding your balance and keeping it has a moderately high DC. Always have your doctor make their Aid Another check.
*(I still say that just because I, Vinnie, only exist on the webz doesn’t necessarily make ME the “alter”-ego!)
