Dont “Oh Sam” Renaissance Dork! Oddly enough I did something similar when i went out with my first girlfriend, the only difference was: 1) it was a Wolverine “Club shirt” (i think thats what the kids called it, if not then a dress shirt) and 2) it was before i had to get glasses (CURSE YOU SITTING TOO CLOSE TO THE TV!!!)
I hope that we can avoid the cliche of people telling Sam how to dress for his date and how terrible that Batman shirt is… Or, barring that, Sam ignoring said advice, because I don’t doubt Amy would totally dig that shirt. I’m glad Sam doesn’t do the ‘typical’ thing and has his own style.
We’ll see. I know enough now to know that no matter what I do, there is a good chance someone is going to have an issue with it. I cannot please everyone but such is the nature of the beast.
I’d say “don’t write what you think is best for your audience, just write your best and your audience will find you” but you will anyway.
Or better:
“Don’t try to be a great man, just be a man. And let history make its own judgments”
I dunno you see a good friend come out for a first date with that on it’s your responsibility to say something. Ya Amy would probably be pretty excited about it but I’m not positive Trevor’s ever met her and Sam’s pretty malleable at the best of times; he wants to keep everyone happy.
While I agree that Amy wouldn’t have a problem with the shirt, I can’t imagine a ‘fancy’ resteraunt even letting Sam in wearing that. There are two different things going on here in terms of appearance. There’s the dating social and the social social. If Sam was an eccentric billionaire, Wayne away but in most ‘fancy’ places, dressing like that won’t fly.
been there, done that, paid good money to walk into the restaurant, throat-punched the manager when he told me we had to leave because my wife isn’t a dress wearing kinda lady. sexist fuck.
it turned into a whole big thing what with me being in the army. needless to say, manager got fired for insulting about 50% of the customers there (either women or military or both) and it since has removed any concept of dress code entirely.
Please that shirt is a killer … Amy may love it but they gang will have to say something … after all Trev did help with the glasses. And no, aside from comedy that shirt probably should be burned. Come on Sam … go class!
Well, I am a geeky gamer girl, and I just had my boyfriend wear my favorite geeky shirt for my Birthday “Big Daddy Daycare” Amy will love it.
But I think the venue might jerk him round a bit, but we have always been judged by our geek chic. Sam won’t let it get to him. 🙂 “Go for it Sam!!!”
Sure, everyone may have something negative to say about Sam’s Batman shirt now, but little do they know that Amy will be wearing her finest Iron Man blouse.
There’s a 50/50 chance that Trevor is going to either say, “No Sam, bad Sam. BAD!” *queue fashion montage* but Amy would have rather seen him in the Batman shirt.
-OR-
Trevor knows Sam and he knows Amy and knows that the shirt will be perfect.
I’m generally not a fan of Batman, but that’s a fantastic shirt. Nothing wrong with wearing something like that on a date if you know your date is a genre fan.
If you are a nerd, don’t hide it – embrace it! You may repell the shallow chicks but that’s actually a good thing, because a nerd chick is so much better!
What I’m trying to say: great shirt!
I see this one one pf those silk-like superhero shirts from the late 90’s early 2000’s. I’m ashamed to say I have an equally awful Spider-Man one that I rocked in high school. My brother had a Goku one as well.
He will most likely not be wearing the shirt for the entire date.
And I only say this because I don’t think Brian wants to draw it for the entire date. Or he may! Just seems like not something one wants to draw much… although he also draws digital (I think?) so he might try to copy it from comic to comic and try and adjust….
In terms of what Amy is like though… I think some comments may be projecting the whole hat thing. She wore it to a game. We know little, aka nothing, about her outside the game. She may have a bit different persona. Not necessarily a ‘professional’ level or anything but her freak flag may not fly so high when not playing at midnight in a gaming store where no one else knows what’s going on.
I bet it would be very fun to redraw that shirt over the course of an entire date scene. That is the real reason that Brian is having a scene about people telling him how to dress. 😛
It’s not a tee. It has a collar. That’s what makes it fancy.
[Pretty much my boyfriend’s justification for wearing a polo shirt to a wedding I wore an evening gown to. I still kind of cringe, but no one mentioned it at the time.]
Oh God, you just had to use that exact wording on that last line. Now I’m never going to be able to read Sam’s lines again without hearing Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory, faux german accent and all. 😀
Oh, Sam…oh, Sam…
Dont “Oh Sam” Renaissance Dork! Hey, I’ve certainly done similar things on dates, so my “Oh Sam” is more sympathy pain than anything else.
Half of me wants to see the date the other half want to see the game night with butt hurt Brent.
You’re getting both. I am cutting back and forth.
Yay!!
Good thats what i was hoping for. Whose DM?
Ya know,, Considering that he is about to go on a date with a gamer girl, that may be the perfect shirt.
I was thinking the exact same thing.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, Jeanie and Dallas are trying to force the Cthulu hat off of Amy’s head.
“HE KISSED ME WHILE I WAS WEARING THE HAT, I WILL NEVER TAKE IT OFF.”
Which is why I don’t, and wouldn’t even if I could afford to, go to ‘fancy’ places. Being told how to look is not acceptable to me.

Oh *facepalm*
No Sam. By the Gods NO!!!!
Haha! Sam is just like me. The nicest shirt I have is probably one of those Doctor Who polo shirts with a little embroidered TARDIS.
Haha yeah that’s just what I was thinking! Amy seems pretty cool.
I think that shirt made me lose a couple SAN. Trevor’s face pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter. xD
I think I have that shirt somewhere. Nothing’s classier than Batman.
Well, I am a geeky gamer girl, and I just had my boyfriend wear my favorite geeky shirt for my Birthday “Big Daddy Daycare” Amy will love it.

Love this comic!
… Hm.
…
… ok, at least it’s not Three Wolf Moon.
God damn it Moon Moon!
…. I would SO rock that shirt on a date!
… Explains why I’m single, huh?
women just cant handle you’re Awesomeness and Win, bro.
This will not end well! I’m getting flashbacks to “And you killed Trevor!” with the glasses.
SAM. …but, Amy wears a squid hat. So…
HEY, what do you have against women in squid hats? ;p
I don’t see what’s wrong with the shirt, I met my wife while I was wearing something far less tasteful 😉
Sure, everyone may have something negative to say about Sam’s Batman shirt now, but little do they know that Amy will be wearing her finest Iron Man blouse.
Trevor “Gut Check” Sam and tell him to try again. But I will say this Sam can wear this all depending on what kind of date this is?
Well, uh, I mean… that’s certainly one way to tell if she’s REALLY into you…
This shirt must of been a huge pain to draw in.
This is the same girl that was wearing a Cthulhu hat earlier. How much could the dark knight possibly offend her.
I forsee everything turning out better than expected.
There’s a 50/50 chance that Trevor is going to either say, “No Sam, bad Sam. BAD!” *queue fashion montage* but Amy would have rather seen him in the Batman shirt.

Acter what happened with the girl n the cyclops glasses incident i dont think sam will take his advice if he tells him to swap shirts.
Not the shirt Sam’s date night wants…but the shirt Sam’s date night needs.
I’m generally not a fan of Batman, but that’s a fantastic shirt. Nothing wrong with wearing something like that on a date if you know your date is a genre fan.
It’s the hair, not the shirt that makes me cringe. Sam looks like he’s trying too hard with that center-part.
This shirt is the best shirt ever.
I’m half-expecting Trevor to go all ‘help the straight guy dress up because he has no clue about fashion sense’. But I dunno.
I’m just glad Trevor’s back in the strip lol.
Just please clear one thing up for me: that IS an actual shirt that you own, right Brian?
*cough* You… you… YOU SHUT UP!
😀 Hey, I’m PROUD of you sir. And remember, there is NO amount of tacky that is not completely compensated for by the fact that it’s BATMAN.
Oops, that was not intended as a reply to lupusFati, obviously.
Please clear one thing up for me: that IS an actual shirt that you own, right Brian?

Damnit. The NOOB is strong with this one.
I see this one one pf those silk-like superhero shirts from the late 90’s early 2000’s. I’m ashamed to say I have an equally awful Spider-Man one that I rocked in high school. My brother had a Goku one as well.
Tim Gunn cries 1,000,000 tears.
He will most likely not be wearing the shirt for the entire date.

(I do not know how art works)

Oh, I commit all the way if the arc calls for it. I am not afraid of details. Is it more work? Oh hell yes it is but it’s worth it.
Now, is he wearing this tee all night? We’ll see.
It’s not a tee. It has a collar. That’s what makes it fancy.
[Pretty much my boyfriend’s justification for wearing a polo shirt to a wedding I wore an evening gown to. I still kind of cringe, but no one mentioned it at the time.]
Hahaha, this made me laugh so much! 😛

Words fail me… Can’t wait to see….
!My friend/boss over at SoulGeek has that same shirt. It’s his favorite shirt when he goes to SDCC and other conventions to sign autographs!
If memory serves, I wore a Hawaiian shirt on my first date with my wife. And she agreed to a second date and then later to marry me, so… 😉
