GenCon Guest Week: James Stowe
Chapter: Season Three
GUEST COMIC WEEK!
Today’s guest comic comes to us courtesy of James Stowe of Sidekick Quests. I love, love, love James’ style and the family friendly look/feel of Sidekick Quests. Word has it James is working on the Sidekick Quests game. I cannot wait to see what comes of it.
OMG panel two [swoooon] so good.
Reminds me of a conversation we had a while back. This was when they were discussing the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste facility. What kind of warning sign could you put on door such that a) it is understandable regardless of language or cultural context (since there’s a decent chance the facility will still be deadly after our civilization has collapsed and risen again), and b) will not simply convince treasure hunters that this is where the GOOD treasure is?
Easy! The sign you put up is “Good Treasure Room: Absolutely No Traps To Be Found In Here, Deadly Or Otherwise. Nope. No Traps. Not One. Not Even A Little Crossbow Trap To Shake Things Up. Just Piles Of Loot Absolutely Everywhere. Good Stuff, Too. Some Of It’s Magic.”
It really was an honor to do this. It was the D20Monkey webcomic that helped me decide to go from just posting Sidekick Quests stuff on my blog to a full fledged comic idea. Brian was kind enough to give me some pointers very early on and I have always appreciated it. Thanks!
Oh, thank god. No more Dagger McStabbynipples.
This, right here, is always a gleeful moment for a DM. You present your players with something that’s quite obviously dangerous. But is it, really? Is it a trick, or a trap? Is this where you’re _supposed_ to go, or is it just a side-room with some really awesome treasure behind a horrible challenge? Are you, as the DM, just trying to kill them again?
As Brett demonstrates here, there’s almost always a Leroy Jenkins in the group.
yes, if Brett were bald and a lil bit slimmer, he’d perfectly match one of my old DnD buds. He ALWAYS charged headlong into situations or mouthed off to the wrong npc and got the rest of the team into trouble.
