Any time anyone talks about “going west,” I’m reminded of a D&D game I was part of where “west” went missing because “the ocean” (a door knocker) told one of the other characters to “go west.”
In all seriousness, could someone please explain to me why Comic Sans gets all this hate? I don’t get it. It’s just a font. It looks fine. It’s… a little bland, maybe? Hell, it’s no worse than Arial.
It gets hate because it has an irritating tendency to be the font of choice for people who don’t understand the concept of choosing an appropriate font for the tone of their content. Have a look at Wikipedia for more examples, but one of the better known ones is when it was used on a help sheet for victims of sexual assault. Font conveys tone, and the tone of Comic Sans is irreverent and informal.
HOVER-TEXT: Appalachia Moonfox is going to be my guru name when I cast off the shackles of humanity and walk into the west.
What? Walk into the west? You’re supposed to sail west. Sail in a grey ship to the undying land.
Maybe he lives in Arizona or Nebraska or something. Maybe his gray ship is a factory primer Oldsmobile?
Walking into the West … *splash* *glub, glub, glub*

It reminds me of the game I played where the west sunk into a giant sink hole and was all underground, nasty campaign, man that was harsh….
As a person who works with graphic designers, I find this funny.
The sad part is that this comic is likely a transcript of a google board meeting (- the pitchforks)
He can walk into the West and travel East….

It gets hate because it wasn’t just an ugly font when it was released, it was THE ugly font.
I have no idea why the backlash has continued to this day though.

This reminds me of when NBC went from their lovely peacock to a crappy stylized N and paid major buck for it. Bunch of folks called it the NBC Turkey.
