Dungeon Run: The Offer
Chapter: Comics, Season Five
Some folks may not be old enough to get the “NEW YORK CITY?!” reference but I am okay with that. The real story here is Mel has a job offer that will take her away from the group. Will she accept it? We’ll see.
I rarely tag a date to strips but in this case it makes sense and yes, I am running this arc a few months back from the current date just to keep it all straight (since my injury caused Christmas to extend into the new year). Continuity nerds will note that it is technically past the first day of Spring in the comic now… yet no Brett.
Get a rope.
hahahahaha
Olde el passo still uses that on occation
i dare say my wife was, up until recently, a pharmacy technician. it is a thankless job, with … with… *thinks* no. there’s nothing good about it. if mel accepts, there will be *a ton* of regret!
Isn’t she already a pharmacy tech? This is just a promotion to a higher grade or whatever.
God, I remember those commercials. Those cowboys really didn’t like that damn Yankee salsa.
They did one or two more recent commercials with a similar gag, but lacking the “NEW YORK CITY?!” punch line, so they’re better forgotten.
As a desert rat myself (New Mexico, the kinder gentler Texas) I agree. I have OPINIONS on how to do a good salsa and most restaurants here in the gringoville pacific NW screw it up.
…which makes it a little embarrassing that Safeway brand “southwest” salsa is absolutely delicious.
Can I request an explanation of the reference, or even just a youtube link? x: It’s been bugging me more and more since I first saw it. >:
I think this is one of the first commercials… And they just kept going with variations on teh theme for the next 5 years or so.

Wait a sec. How did Charlie read that?
She read it to him.
You mean you don’t want people to know he’s psionic yet?
Senior pharmacy tech? She must be working on the degree, or she has one and they want to promote later.
The fact that they pay salary is a bit worrisome for the holiday seasons and general hoopla of New York, but if they had to move up to a salary she requested she might be getting a good deal. Aid with the move is a plus.
She’s pretty well stuck with the question of “Career or Buddies?” as if I recall correctly a pharmacist out here could get $60/hr with some companies. Thankless as the job is (as I’ve had to fill in for some pharm. techs in the past) the pay can make you want to stay, and when you get a general vibe for the people you can work with them… it’s definitely no walk in a park, but it’s doable.
That one wasn’t on anyone’s radar. What a tough choice…
I hate doing this but as I was a proof-reader in a previous life this stuff just jumps out at me, it should be “100% CONFIDENT” not “CONFINDENT.” Although to be fair I never did get an email from management or HR that wasn’t riddled with mistakes, so maybe this was a deliberate shot at added realism 😉
Totally realism.
Don’t hate doing that. It’s obnoxious to point out typos in conversation, but for a published product like a comic, you really want to get those fixed. If people didn’t catch typos for them, comic authors would have to start hiring proof-readers.
It definitely is quite the question of what to go for, I think ever with knowing the hardships I’d have to go with the move and hope that my DM/friend could handle me playing through Skype from now on. Also the whole going to New York and all the group splitting going on just evokes this song to my head
My sunday game has a skype player. They’ve been doing it for over a year and no big problems as far as i know. It took a little for me to get used to when i joined up, but it works.
If she does accept the offer, I’d be interested to see your take on “keeping the group together” via online table-topping.
So would I…..
There’s a very simple reason that Brett isn’t back yet: Klaus possessed the King of Seasons and hooked Brett up to a holly-jolly milking machine to extract his Kringle essence, which Klaus will then use to empower his one true heir with the Mantle. Klaus’s son… PHILLIP F. DOVE.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
It WAS her people telling her she is needed on her home planet. Sort of. If she applied to the job in NYC, she must have known it was a possibility that she could get it and leave. I don’t think this is much of a choice at all.
My deepest sympathies to Mel. I worked as a pharmacy tech for nine months before I finally found something better. The pay was awful, the hours worse, and the work combined the worst aspects of the retail and medical industries.
Hopefully the fictional job is more rewarding, but if it isn’t, helloooo drama!
and another one bites the dust
Smart money says she takes it.
What’s the mouse over text on this one?
Mouse-over text: “Jeez, Charlie. Say it, don’t spray it.”
Yep! This is it! Thanks, Daemnor! It slipped my mind last night.
Thanks!
Well, most Senior Pharmacy a techs I know (meaning the two I work with) don’t have degrees, and our company tops them out at $15 an hour here in Denver, Colorado. Also, Techs are vastly different from an RPh/PharmD, the former is at most an associate degree in some states, while the later is generally a doctorate. Mind, I’m not year a certified pharm tech (I’ll take that test on Tuesday).
Good luck on your test! 🙂
I don’t recall if we know where they’re located, which makes the implications of NEW YORK CITY?! a bit hard to grasp. I mean, is she looking at moving across the country, the next state over, or are they already in upstate NY?
