Dungeon Run: Changing of the Guard
Chapter: Comics, Season Five
The next zone begin and Sam is in the driver seat as the GM as we move toward the finale. Until now, a few GMs were handling all of the groups but now that we’re in single digits, it’s time for Sam. Here we go…
The new Favored Enemy: The Patriarchy t-shirts are now available!

I have this Patreon page if that is your jam.
Hover-Text: Make your predictions now. Who do you think will win Dungeon Run?
GM’s girlfriend always wins. No questions asked.
Gonna have to go with Carlos for this one!
Yeah I’m all for Trevor taking this too.
If memory serves, there was a remark about introducing a new character to the roster at the start of this arc.
As such, I call Carlos.
I’ll take Dallas
ROLL FOR INITIATIVE! Three words that have spelled doom for thousands of players.
long as it’s not dove, I don’t care.
My thoughts to a “T”
Hurrah for TeamAnyoneButDove!
I’ll start making the team T-shirts!
Actually, I would be for Dove, but done in such a fecal way as to earn him a lifetime ban. Win the battle, lose the war.
Also, anyone else notice that he says the only ‘adversaries’ are each other? That doesn’t preclude traps… The one-step lava traps were bad, but I predict a certain amount of pointy objects in someone’s future.
Dove. It’s always Dove.
If Trevor doesn’t win I will riot.
Its going to come down to Dove and Amy. Sam is going to have to make a decision as gm between the two. Realizing that a good gm would agree with Dove he will do so. And pieces will fall as they may.
Or Jeanie will go all Barbarian in this house!
i’m on team anyonebutdove, but i would be pleased but unsurprised to see amy win. she’s brilliant and a lot sneakier and more observant than her surface persona suggests. my money, however, is on dallas. people seem to forget that she is a talented game designer.
Carlos survives the run, but as he’s leaving the dungeon he gets shot by another group of adventurers.
Wait, what happened to Tamina? Did she just randomly decide to drop out last page?
Not randomly, Mr. I. Take another look at the last panel–Amy defeated Tamina by creeping her out on a personal level, so that Tamina left the game. In the Dungeon Run, apparently, there are more games than the one on the table. Brilliant.
TPK! TPK! TPK! TPK! TPK! TPK! TPK! TPK!
Actually, I think Sam is going to pull a twist on them, make them have to work together. That way they all end up enjoying the game, proves himself worthy of the Narrative.
Especially if he somehow rekindles the spirit of gaming that has been so corrupted in Doves black heart.
dallas or carlos are my picks. but again would be happy w/ anyone aside from phillip
My money´s on Trevor ( but I have Amy in a side bet) ^^
Okay counting left to right I say player 2 is going to buy it this round first.
Then player 4 for the win.
Wow…Player 2 looks like he’s about to cry and run screaming out of the building, gibbering like a madman with rabies.
Effectove gaming, mi amigo.
I’d put my money on Dallas for the win if PKD weren’t there.
At first glance, I thought he called it the BORING Maze. :p Looking forward to the traps and treachery!
I am betting some of the adversaries will the shadow-versions of the PCs.
I’m saying Jeanie, because reasons.
I’m all for Dallas or Jeanie. <3
Am I the only one that noticed he is holding a d20 instead of a d10.
… Why would he be holding a d10?
I think it depends on what a group does for this answer. I know of some games that have used a d10 for initiative and some that use a d20. For DnD I’ve used a D20 primarily so it didn’t seem odd to me that he was holding the D20.
It’s been a long time since I’ve played a system that used a d10 for initiative (2E, I believe).
Deathwatch uses D10 for that
I must admit I have been of two minds in regards to this arc. On one hand I have totally enjoyed the progression of the stories and the hijinks that have ensued. It has been sweet to see some new characters and really to flesh out some of the older ones all while seeing a deadly “dungeon”.
On the other hand I don’t enjoy adding a competitive aspect to an RPG as it seems to go against everything they stand for (in my opinion that is). The purpose of RPG’s is to get together with friends, have fun and tell stories while playing a game where you can’t really “win” other the victory of everyone enjoying themselves. I know that such competitive games have existed for a while I just feel conflicted about the whole issue.
Regardless of my turmoil I have enjoyed this whole thing so keep up the good work.
Bit off topic, but any chance that awesome ‘favored enemy’ design will make it onto a mug? I’m thinking an extra-tall one, like OOTS gets through CafePress. (They hold 15oz, and keep their heat for a good 2 hours.)
I don’t do printed tees, but I’d love to have that on a mug.
That’s one big d20…
I believe it’s one of those GM ones for throwing at misbehaving players?
Metal d4s still do more damage though…
I’m torn, part of me wants Trevor to win, part of me wants Carlos to win as an outsider, and as much of a dick as he is part of me wants Dove to win, just because I think it could set up some good arcs down the line
Nice speech, but it feels a bit off saying they overcame treachery. The only ones who you could really say were betrayed were Mel’s priest and the guys Dallas shot. Trevor and Phil were never even pretending to work together, so it doesn’t really fit there.
Am I the only one who heard “ROLL FOR INITIATIVE!!” in the Mortal Kombat announcer voice?
