…and, after reading the comments down-thread, I triple-checked. I have to agree: Thing 1 looks like Dove, and Thing 2 looks like Grey. It’s really hard to tell from the distorted faces, but T1 as it descends from the sky is …corpulent, while T2 is definitely swole as it crashes through he Dragons Den.
^_^ nice! I totally missed grey. I have Prosopagnosia so faces of any kind are hard for me to tell apart. maybe thats why i picked it up more than other people? I dunno, i might still be wrong.
Going to be honest…if Lee has become *such a shitkicker* because of his Daddy issues he’s willing to let his brother and friends even POTENTIALLY be harmed over a fucking *game store rivalry*, I’m going to be super disappointed in this final arc. That’s a HELL of a character change to occur OFF SCREEN.
That feels like a pretty hyperbolic overreaction. Lee’s already established as having ties to Dove, possibly just being in Dove’s pocket, period. This is driven by Dove, likely due to some opportunistic alliance with supernatural forces also already firmly established.
So…I mean we have no idea what happened between the last time we saw Lee and when he was re-introduced (unless I missed something)… but I’m willing to bet he’s in over his head…or it’s one of those things where he’s in it, but he doesn’t know how serious or dangerous it’s become.
And if I’m wrong… I still won’t be disappointed because the story has been good and entertaining.
And even if I was disappointed, I’d just move along and let everyone else enjoy it.
tbh your response alone and not saying “don’t worry it all works out and you’ll love it” makes me respect you even more, Brian.
While I’m still reeling from the disappointing ending of “Misfile” (and the creator taking my critique of his heteronormative ending for a supposedly queer comic on facebook so his mostly cis, mostly straight commenters could soothe him and tell him I was an ungrateful c***, their words), I know you’d never do me dirty that way, even if I MIGHT not agree with aspects of the final arc. Mad props. c:
The internet and comment sections in particular are like the wild west. I am sorry you had to go through that, SA. I know that some of my ideas and delivery will not land for everyone in a way that is ideal or lives up to the hype. All I can do is try my best and let the dice fall. We’ll chat again in October.
I dunno. The way he is talking sounds more like he was a part of it, but not necessarily behind it or even okay with it. He could have been intimidated into going along with it for his own preservation. He could have been told that same line several times. “It does not concern you.”
I suspect we’re about to get a flashback page or 2 explaining how this whole fight was put together very soon, so whatever happened to him won’t stay off screen for long if that is the case.
Ahh, but you’re missing the ‘It wasn’t supposed to end up like this, you promised me nobody would be hurt’ angle.
I suspect rather strongly that it is NOT just a rivalry with the game store, that there is something MUCH nastier lurking, even before things went magical.
I mean, considering he knows it’s dangerous, I doubt he thinks no one is going to get hurt. Maybe he made some kind of agreement to keep his brother safe, but these things seem to be trying their damnedest to murder everyone else.
This.
I’m pretty sure Lee actually does care about Sam. Remember he was trying to get Sam to be his new partner in running Game Haus, even trying to sweeten the deal by saying he’d kick Dove out and replace him with Sam?
I got the feeling he really did mean that, that while he wanted to destroy the Dragon’s Den to get back at his dad, he didn’t really want Sam falling down with it.
Definitely thinking he’s in over his head here. He struck a deal with ‘someone’ to wreck the Dragon’s Den, but probably told them to make sure Sam didn’t get hurt. Pity they don’t really care about that.
(Then again, out of all the people the creatures have spotted and attacked so far (Brett, Jeanie, and now one wants to make Talbot into a snack), they haven’t directly attacked Sam yet. Will see how long that lasts!)
Alright, so Lee is in the know regarding this whole mess, which furthers my theory that he & Dove do have a connection (which was only potentially hinted at before) with Clive & whoever his benefactor is. I’m still putting money on Dove being that first assailant, just transformed (and showing his true colors even better than all his previous appearances)
Could be any old rando (the Things don’t need to be previously established characters, but something about #1 just made me think of Dove the first time we saw it)
I’m fully prepared for something entirely opposite my expectations here, but if I had to venture a guess on Thing 2, if they were a previously seen character, I’d throw out that angry, prissy gal from the dungeon run (though she seemed like a one time character, so probably not)
More than anything else, I’m just looking forward to the eventual reveals & how the story progresses (and that everyone else is sharing in their thoughts/reactions too, and the joint ponderings)
I came here to say this. Didn’t an early issue show that Grey and Dove were distantly related? I’m at work so I can’t dig into the archives till later …..
Giving Grey an unrestricted outlet for his self-hating rage, at the spot where it all came to a head/crashing down…that checks out too well if Thing 1 is Dove. And a solid point with Donny & officer Clark’s presence with everything else.
When I stumbled on this comic in the middle of the Garden Society arc and been following ever since. I never in my wildest dreams thought we’d be at the point where Dove and Donny are supernatural hulk trolls in league with a disgraced elf to destroy a gaming store and wild theories as to how this epic battle will shake out.
This might just be me, but thing 2 looked feminine, I thought u saw the bottom curve of a breast, though i could be wrong. What if they are just random boogedy-boos?
A lot of the villains have had ties to Santa/Christmas myth. Maybe something like that, like the children under the robe of the Ghost of Christmas Present’s robe, the boy (ignorance) and the girl (want) but corrupted? Just random thoughts.
Somehow I don’t see dove being brave enough to give up humanity, or whatever he had that passed for it.
I kinda thought the same thing (the long, if straggly, hair added to that impression) which is where the idea of princess prissy-pants as thing 2 came up, but that could (and now I’m really stretching here) also fit in with the idea of thing 2 being Gray (the self hatred further influencing his transformation appearance, since it was a raw, powerful hatred of himself as he is)
The Santa mythos link could be interesting to see, but introducing too many new players at this late stage (while bringing back former key players) might be a bit much.
Wait…
Completely bonkers thought: it’s Donny & Mel (I have no reason to think this other than they’ve been mentioned, it being them wouldn’t involve “new†characters being introduced, and despite Mel seeming chill, that could just be the surface (and we already know Donny is holding one hell of a grudge presently, and maybe those angry feels are part of whatever was needed to influence their change/let in that bit of mind control (which we’ve seen works pretty well, especially when fighting Santa)))
Woo, triple parentheses!
He did say “us”, true! it would almost be heartwarming! …too bad his black, flabby heart is about to get turned into a smear. Poor lad. *cries crocodile tears for him*
I kind of wonder. It’s beginning to seem like Lee was approached to ruin the store, but the supernatural backers, once they got their hooks into him, may have pulled a Vader, in regards to their deal.
Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t make him not a trash tier person, but it may at least not be quite as evil as all that, maybe going from just ruining the store to killing everyone but lee and his love interest.
I honestly see Lee maybe coming back, finding some courage and maybe losing his life making it right.
It’s pretty clear at the very least, that he has some clue as to what is going on. He’s very aware of the dangerous forces out there and what they can do. He might not be directly behind this but he understands on a level what is happening and how dangerous it is. I think that is why he’s done what he could to keep the man he loves out of harm’s way.
Because when you are a mere human in a world of supermen then you either react like Lex Luther, or Batman. It seems Lee’s choice was Lex. He might not be in control of this, or have created it, but what ever dark power this is he fed it the right people to get done what he wants.
well that theory was confirmed.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! *mind blown gif*
Like a man with a shoveling addiction, I’m really digging this arc!
“a man with a shoveling addiction” that sounds like Lee, because he sure seems to be digging himself deeper.
So…is Dove one of the monsters?
I theorized that in an earlier page, asking if anyone else saw the resemblance.
I went back and looked, after you mentioned that.
Mmmmaaaaaaayyybbee…?
…and, after reading the comments down-thread, I triple-checked. I have to agree: Thing 1 looks like Dove, and Thing 2 looks like Grey. Oooooooops!
Still very curious. Lee’s messing in very deep stuff.
And who was Larry talking to – not necessarily Talbot!
Going to be honest…if Lee has become *such a shitkicker* because of his Daddy issues he’s willing to let his brother and friends even POTENTIALLY be harmed over a fucking *game store rivalry*, I’m going to be super disappointed in this final arc. You missed the fact Lee was the one giving Dove orders.
So…I mean we have no idea what happened between the last time we saw Lee and when he was re-introduced (unless I missed something)… but I’m willing to bet he’s in over his head…or it’s one of those things where he’s in it, but he doesn’t know how serious or dangerous it’s become.

Fair SouthernArkham. We’ll see how you feel about things in October when I dock this showboat.
So far, the suspense is killing me, but I am hooked by all the threads of the last ten years coming together one by one.
I don’t want it to end, but I also want to see the big finale.
tbh your response alone and not saying “don’t worry it all works out and you’ll love it” makes me respect you even more, Brian.

Yes. Grey and Dove are cousins.
https://d20monkey.com/comic/a-grey-cloud/
That appearance is also directly linked to Donny’s previous appearance in the strip, *and* officer Clark’s introduction to the cast.
Brian appears to be placing all his pieces on the board for the end game.
Giving Grey an unrestricted outlet for his self-hating rage, at the spot where it all came to a head/crashing down…that checks out too well if Thing 1 is Dove. And a solid point with Donny & officer Clark’s presence with everything else.
The brainstorming is just too good.

Woo, triple parentheses!
The ground is trembling but Trevor is getting ready to RUMBLE and Lee’s looking like a jenga tower on a faultline!
…First comment on this site in forever and I’m not even sure it made any damn sense!
LEE, WHAT DID YOU DO? and if not you specifically, what do you know!?
ooooooo Someone screwed up!
I’m putting my money on Higgins. I can smell his war musk all over this.
Smells all Minty!
But at least Lee really cares about Trevor… [ducks for cover]
He did say “us”, true! it would almost be heartwarming! …too bad his black, flabby heart is about to get turned into a smear. Poor lad. *cries crocodile tears for him*
Lee, you COLOSSAL SHITHEEL.
If you are half as complicit in what’s going on as I think you are, there’s a shotgun, a car trunk and a shallow grave in a deert waiting for you…
Time to reap what you sow, Trevor. Still time to redeem yourself, though.
As for Lee, I hope he has some punching in his future. From his brother, if not from everyone else.
Well, I’d really hoped Lee was just an asshole, and not actively trying to kill his brother’s friends. Such a disappointment.
I kind of wonder. It’s beginning to seem like Lee was approached to ruin the store, but the supernatural backers, once they got their hooks into him, may have pulled a Vader, in regards to their deal.
