Hah no they did not intend to discover America and Columbus Columbus was a Kringle grade asshole
Not to mention he was completely wrong in his argument for the trip. 100% wrong. The Earth is as large as everyone else thought it was back then, approximately, and not significantly smaller like Columbus thought. If the Americas hadn’t been there, he would have died an ignominious failure.
