HOVER-TEXT: It doesn’t feel like Christmas if Brett doesn’t bleed a little.
Brett bleeding from his face? i suddenly feel like eating candy canes, damn you Pavlov!
Hit her with the naughty list! Right in the labanza! The labanza!
I knew that purplish aura looked like she was casting!
she wasn’t, she is in the same room standing directly across from the physical representation of the Spirit of Christmas and she essentially just Blasphemed him, and totally meant it. given the way Santa/Christmas magic has always been depicted in this comic, of course Brett would be physically injured by that.
“Dallas you’ve ruined my figgy pudding. NOBODY ruins my figgy pudding.”
So, she did punch him in the face… more or less.
Really does feel like a d20Monkey Christmas now.
No bah humbug is likesaying i dont beive infaie to tinkebeles face (mispelled belive intentionally cause writting itcounts)
ohhh that’s right. he’s the spirit of Christmas. So disbelief or harsh negativity upfront about the holiday makes that happen, huh? interesting to know. Makes me wonder what else can happen.
I think she’s also technically a DM? Could be a touch of that DM power going on.
It could also be Dallas using the Narrative subconsciously. I seem to remember her being a candidate for it, or at the very least she can see the one guy.
I won’t rule it out, but at the same time I’m not going to say its definitely that. The way I see it stating something like that out of raw careless emotion to Santa could hurt him. Its like a Paladin’s aura being not pierced, but shattered with mid, (wanna say, lv5-6ish) and forcing Santa to make a con save. Also, while Dallas can see Larry, however not recently since his departure. It makes me wonder what he’s up to these days.
Ooh, not good. I get the feeling that Clive and the mystery baddie he made an alliance with are gonna somehow wind up weaponizing this. “Power Word: Bah-Humbug”.
This also makes me wonder: is this kind of thing only a problem that Santa has to deal with, or do ALL magical beings in the d20Monkey-verse play by the whole Hook “every time you say you don’t believe in fairies, somewhere a fairy falls down dead” rule?
Well, it’s true in Harry Dresden’s case, if only because he MAKES them dead.
“Bah-fucking-Humbug is actually” the metamagically empowered version of the spell.
“Charles! Quick! Sing Santa Claus is Coming to Town! Sing, damn you! Sing!”
Pretty interesting conceit here. I approve!
And all the reindeer just fell off the roof, too.
But it’s not like this is the first time Brett has run across negativity about Christmas and him being Santa, is it?
TB: No, but unless I miss my guess, this is the first time such negativity has had such a powerful emotional backing behind it.
Maybe she can make up for it by building a big clock on City Hall that sings a Santa song on Christmas Eve…
I believe it is that, combined with the focus being directly at him at the time.
My guess would be that it has to be backed up by some seriously strong bad feelings to actually affect him. Dallas seemed REALLY pissed off.
I feel sorry that Brett can never watch the Muppets Christmas Carol
I really only think Dallas had this much power because of her GMing ability to affect reality mixed in with her negativity towards the holidays because of her current situation. However I think Brett fully understands her anger, and it’s not like he hasn’t gotten beat up on Christmas before.
Ooh, good point, a GM backed heartfelt “humbug” from someone considered a friend? That’d take the wind out of Santa.
I don’t know about friend. The do know each-other by reputation, (might’ve even met once) , and they certainly didn’t like each other then. Heck, the only time I can recall one referencing the other is when Dallas asks herself “What Would Brett Tucker Do?” at the Dungeon Run. But I isn’t this the first time they actually meet on panel, as it were?
A good point. But I think Brett was aiming to get blodied by her one way or the other. Nothing better to get frustration out of your system.
Hurry everyone, clap your hands! That’ll save him!
I’m clapping with all of my holiday spirit. Wait… it’s March. Why am I clapping? Oh, well, not going to stop now. Go Brent, help Dallas become happier!
I’m disappointed I had scroll this far down the comments to find someone saying this.
*clap for Santa*
(We can get him an ointment for it.)
The look on his face says it all. “Really? You had to use the “H” word?”
So Scrooge was not a merchant but an evil wizard with a free power word:STUN?
It’s a prestige class feature.
So we know how normal people can hurt Brett now? Score.
Its like saying you don’t believe in Fairies for Peter Pan, bah humbug has the same sort of effect and if said with enough force might even be able to kill him is my guess.
I dunno, it’s hard to imagine it being said much more strongly than she just did. And while he’s certainly affected, he doesn’t look anywhere near dead.
huh…. it occurs to me that the alliance of douche nozzles that has formed for the last couple of story arcs could very easily organize an online anti dallas league so as to weaken the core group one by one.
That was a potent humbugging if I’ve ever seen one.
Plus sides:
Bret looks more annoyed than seriously hurt (yeah, bloodied nose/ears, but nothing SERIOUS)
Dallas looks absolutely mortified by what she just pulled out; she now believes.
“The things I gotta do for people in this job…” 🙂
Sometimes people don’t realize the power of their words
He has bitch-slapped by cynism and dispair
“Well, nice going. This being Christmas, the glowy stuff will reset pretty soon… Long enough for about a thousand kids to miss out. But, you know, glad you got that out of your system.”
