Is the gaming community really this sexist? I haven’t played that much tabletop compared to others and I’ve only recently started playing online. But in the groupes I played while there was still a majority of dudes it was still pretty mixed and female players or GMs were always welcome.

It’s a harassment campaign that specifically targets women with continual threats of rape, death, and bodily harm. The individuals making the threats go the extra mile to ensure that their threats have weight by publishing the personal information of the individuals being targeted.
Every famous people (whatever their race, gender and sexual orientation) have Death and Rape threats and the people are mad when somebody writes something very bad about the thing that the people like. What Brett can do at this moment is give her a hug, reminder her that she isn’t alone and there are a lot of people who can and will have her back. Maybe he could get this world’s version of Margret Weis to come in and play Mentor/Drill Sergeant for her. Someone who’s been there, done that, has the chops and knowledge Dallas desperately needs to fight back and isn’t afraid to get a little tough on her when necessary.
The only thing that Brett should do in this moment is apologize for dropping by unannounced, showing sympathy for what happened, and then showing himself out. Anything else is likely only going to make the situation worse.

If I were aware of the game involved, I’d either buy it or not on its own merits. And if I had interest before, I wouldn’t lose any over the author.
