HOVER-TEXT: I have a bad feeling about this?
20 bucks says I know who that is.
Okay, give me 20 bucks and I’ll say you know who that is.
I’ll take this action
Rabbit ears, name of Peter, most likely last name of Cottontail. AKA Easter Bunny is my guess
Um, his name is right there in the comic… “Peter E. Hare”
No spit take?
Oh course not, can’t you tell he swallows?
Best answer, you win
Dun dun DUUUUUN!
jeves
Irontail?
LMFAO! Did not expect any of that.
Shouldn’t that invite say 2016 instead of 15?
No, it’s still December 2015 in the comic.
….and now I’m finding myself wondering how a holiday qualifies for a “Mantlebearer” and if they have relative power levels – ie, sure there’s easter, halloween, christmas and all that, but are there mantlebearers for every minor saint’s day or god(dess’s)/dead-queen’s-birthday, etc? Does power level vary by geographical area? (IE, the hatchet faced mantlebearer of Queen Victoria’s Day only has power in Commonwealth countries?)
I should not read this strip while sick. My mind goes weird, weird places and forgets to bring a map.
Your mind asked about different Mantlebearers, mine went to ‘Huh, I wonder if the Main Cast is going to replace and become Mantlebearers’.
What about “Check Your Batteries Day”? There has to be a mantlebearer for “Check Your Batteries Day”! Or “Submarine Day”? Or “National Hat Day”, “Thesaurus Day”, or “National Inane Answering Message Day”?
There are all sorts of weird places to go with this idea, thanks to no shortage of people with nothing better to do than get some ridiculous hobby or interest nationally recognized for no useful reason. Let’s hope that the mantlebearers have a higher standard of membership, otherwise the Ball may be ruined by whoever is representing “National Step in a Puddle and Splash Your Friends Day”!
What about talk like a pirate day?
The real question is how does each one get his job? Brett inherited it, but in “The Santa Clause,” the new Santa basically…well…killed the old one.
Does your dad or mom have to be the “Easter Rabbit” to get the job? What powers go with this particular mantle? Not laying eggs, I hope. (The floppy ears are bad enough). Although judging by the background he obviously gets to draw on a much broader wardrobe than Brett does.
Is Hallmark aware of its vast power to create minor deities just by inventing holidays?

any holiday that has a Rankin-Bass stop-Motion animated holiday special made about it has an official “immortal” and associated mantle-bearers.
