I’ve been GMing since 1980 and there has been some amazing highs and really frustrating lows but Sam hit the nail square on the head – I’m still a GM after 40 years because it is a kind of magic.
Brian, your take on gaming is also pretty darn magical too – kudos
He’s still got to sort out his brother, we haven’t seen enough of Amy since I don’t know when, Clive was last seen attacking the Easter Bunny, and at the end of all we’ll need to know that however a long road Sam faces, he believes his friends give a shit.
And that’s just the loose ends I can think of. 😀
I’m legit tearing up, I really feel Sam right here. I like being a player, but I love being a GM. Even tough it’s a pain in the ass sometime the satisfaction is so great.
I just posted this to my GM and said thanks for bringing the magic. I also posted it on my FB page, saying that if you ever wondered why people role played, to read the panel with the book.
Aside from giving me an earworm for days (Queen’s “A Kind of Magic”), this did give me many resonant feels – I just recently picked up the (virtual) dice again and started running a Forgotten Realms campaign for some friends over Discord and Roll20. I haven’t run a game in four years, or even played in one. It feels good to be back in the big chair again.
Come back to the chair, Sam.
YES. Yes, please oh please oh please.
And/or a nice high-definition image to use as wallpaper on my desktop.
oops, this got attached t the wrong post somehow. Should be a reply to Valthonis, below.
So… I think I need a poster version of panel 4 for my wall.
Seconded
The motion is on the (gaming) table. Show of hands?
Ditto
I need panel 5 in there too.
ditto
“You’re doing it, Peter…um, Sam!”
This is so good Brian
Took me a couple of mins to get this reference, well done
I guess like me you are hooked on this arc 🙂

Same feeling – & GMing since 1973 …
This seems distressingly like an end. I mean, I know it will end, but still. . .
Will there ever be an actual comic book collection?

Honestly, I am rooting for a new baby Kringle. Brett and Jeanie are ready for it.
the only change I’d suggest is in pannel 5 change his eyes to d20’s

I’ve never GM’d, but Sam just explained why I do music.
Because there is nothing better for me in this world.
And boy do I love how he comes alive in this script.
It reminds me of Brett’s glow as mantle bearer and when Jeanie made the King of Seasons laugh.
This made me bawl like a newborn. SO GOOD. Right in the feels for me.
…he’s about to get kicked in the balls, isn’t he.
I think that may be the best arc you have ever written, and that is a tough call! Absolutely fantastic storytelling!
*sings* One dream, one soul, one prize, one goal…one golden glance of what should be…
… it’s a kind of magic …
I..really needed to hear this today. I am working trough a similar situation on not having issues dming. I am really going to reflect on this
Welcome back, my dude!!!!

Thank you SO MUCH for this arc.
I am embarrassed that I didn’t even think about resolving Sam’s GM ‘hiatus’ as a necessary part of concluding the story.
This page is awesome.
Hot damn but that there comic brought a tear to my eye :,)
I love it!
Good work man, keep it up!
