All the Kings Horses: Part Sixty-Six
Chapter: Season Eight
Welcome to Hades.
And this strip brings the in-game portion of Andromeda X to a close. Next week brings the end of the entire arc. I have thoughts and things to say but I will wait for next week to get into that.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone.
Dun DUN DUUUUUUN!!!!
Hail Hades
I am so excited for the end of this and hope all of this work was prep for you actually developing a WoA based on this setting. I know you did the art for The Agency, but I would love see another setting specifically built for the deck.
Brian, this has been one of my favorite arcs you have every drawn. Thank you and keep up the great work!
OOOOoooooohhhhh!!!!
Is Hades a supervillain organization? Is it Olympus black-ops? Are the PCs all double agents, or just Professor Wonder? So many questions, so few answers!
I’m gettin me a suicide squad vibe there…
Ehhh more like how the feds will “hire” a crimminal in lew of prison same sentence but more pleasant “jail”
She’s either Amanda Waller or Saruman and I cant wait to find out
A bit, yeah but with less of a do-this-or-die overtone. Miranda is logical and she hates to waste talent, especially brilliant minds.
I know the Christian version of Hades tends to be of the fire-and-brimstone variety, but since we’re going off the Greek model, there are actually multiple locations (both bad and good) for those with different virtues/vices–some handle pleasure, some handle punishment.
So this sounds like more of a “the better you behave, the better it gets” kind of Hades.
There is also the fact that Hades is not the opposite of Olympus. They are two parts of a whole split into thirds.
It gives me a very Blackwatch vibe…
That was my thought as well. Some members from the public face group if they get to be problematic as far as PR goes, new members who fit in there better than with the “good†good guys, and the occasional subdued enemy with something to offer (carrot instead of stick, really)
I just love how Chronos’ expressions go from annoyance to concern to complete defeat in a matter of moments.
I am more than a little sad to see this arc end. Has been one of may favorites.
I was getting really into it… I want to see more! But I have this weird feeling it will probably be in a setting or campaign book…
Thank you! Sadly, you are in the minority. A LOT of people hated it.
And they are entitled to their opinion, their opinion is wrong, but they are still entitled to it. This is a comic about a geek gamer crew, not just one genre. I don’t a single geek that only plays D&D, or just fantasy of any kind. TSRs Marvel, DC, Villains and Vigilantes, Champions, Gurps, just a few of the super’s I have played. Then others like Car Wars, Teenagers from outer space, Judge Dredd, et all. Yes I could fill pages with the fantasy games I have played, just because there are so many out there, it does tend to dominate the market. I would love to see the crew jump into other Genre’s as well. I have loved this one from beginning to end. Look forward to everything you have in store for the crew.
Actually ist not a wrong opinion or that it is just about the Fantasy Genre.
its about the fact that we got introduced to a totally new and interesting Fantasy world/System before that Campaign here and People are really Eager to see more of it ,but instead they got “hey People, lets do something totally different and unrelated instead of all the stuff you wanted.”
Good news! Karthun and D&D are up next. Andromeda X was something I wanted to do, so I did it. It was a fun challenge but Karthun is where I live.
Not that this Campaign here was bad, mind you,i liked the hi-jinks of the table Players. Its just that the Timing could have probatly been better.
Hindsight is 18/00.
I see what you did there…
Well, I loved it—and I’ve never played FATE, or a Supers game. (Although, now I kinda feel like I have.) Just remember that haters comment more than lovers about 10:1, and learn to ignore the ‘internal hater,’ too. This was fantastic. The characterization in-game and at the table was fantastic. The story was fantastic. And I, a 55-year-old man who feels like he’s seen it all*, is a fan and a Patron. Thanks for doing what you do.
*(seriously. I work in an ER, and I used to be a paramedic. I feel like I’ve seen it all.)
You, sir, win at usernames. That is a work of genius.
“A lot of people hated it?” Well, I’m not one of them. I like to see the game arcs stretching in different directions, and if you come back to this one again, I’m there.
i have re read this arc 4 times i really loved the world building
Personally I think this arc is very fun, but I do hope to see more karthun in the years to come. It’s a really fun setting with a lot of creativity and passion and I would love to take more ideas from the books and comics to transplant into my own games.
I want to play in this world of aliens and superpowered secret agents
OH sweet, so I was right, her secret move was to hack into his tech. That’s what the decryption was.
Smooth, so smooth.
It was indeed!
This is brilliant! I would love to know more about this setting. Brian, you are a treasure trove. Never forget that.
what he said.
Someone is pulling a SHIELD!
I love this arc. The in world building was great, and the out of game stuff with the was a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see more of this if you decide to continue. Keep up the great work. This arc has been incredibly entertaining. Thank you.
So long as the thing you say isn’t “D20monkey is coming to a close in x amount of months” I’ll be fine 😀
I really like how the Hades logo is an inverted mountain.
Looks like someone’s named Brian’s a fan of overwatch lore 😛
I am! Your shade is acknowledged.
How many Doctor Wonders existed and that codename is a family heritage?
There have been a few Professor Wonders. It is a legacy mantle passed down.
Oh, hi Overwatch.
It’s “Mister Overwatch”, Stephen.
I loved every bit of this arc! Very sorry to see it come to a close. Your writing is wonderful – suspenseful plot and great, sensitive character development (I want to hug all of them, especially Carlos!). I hope very much that you’ll do another Andromeda X story soon – after all, Carlos did bring in that huge stack of books…
“Welcome to Hades.” I love it.
The “welcome to hell” trope is famous in military and adventure stories. So why not kill two birds with one stone and just name your outfit that?
Sad that there are a bunch of haters. This arc gave me much more of an itch to get back to the table than anything has before. Not even to necessarily play a Fates type game just ANYTHING.
And correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t the last Karthuun session end in a TPK?(It’s been a while sorry) TPKs always sent me to a new game style for a bit.
