Besides Kris, Klaus and Brett (and Mrs Tucker), how much do we know of the Kringle lineage? Maybe he does have “badass telekinetic grandmother” in there somewhere…
Only if Elminster is extremely pissed-off at you at the time, and helping you out probably reluctantly.
She’s still a superhero at heart, so I expect it’s only concern for the lives of all the poor helpless minions there that compelled her to step in at all, rather than just letting the place crash and burn and clearing the situation up easily.
I expect the Professor is going to have to do some fast talking and very good Diplomacy checks afterwards…
Brian get’s a little leeway as while he uses tabletop games as a part of his plot he’s not dming a game; he’s telling a story. Since he’s got control over all the players he’s free to focus on the story exclusively instead of entertaining the players he’s entertaining us.
I think this was actually the result of a player action. It think Dallas passed a secret note to Carlos letting him know what she was doing and I believe this was the result (apparently she was calling/signaling to Matron). So it’s not like an Elminster Deus Ex Machina exactly (if i’m right). Anyway it’s a good story so I’m ok with it either way.
I honestly keep forgetting that this is a story about people playing a game, and not a superhero comic. I don’t care about the mechanics so much about how it ends.
Although reminders about the mechanics of the game adds to my interest as well.
Ikr? When I hear “deepstar conqueror” I get images of Starro crossed with Darkseid. Probably off base, but fun to consider while poor Brian’s hopefully recovering from being sick.
Yes, I suspect that the lifetime between that eager young woman in her first rescue and this angry elderly woman was quite eventful. Attempts to exploit her were probably legion in her youth, and taking her blood was just the most recent attempt.
I think she was a Paragon that lost everthing in her life, I cen understand her pain and she stoped the Palace from falling. (Her powers are Telekinesis, Superior) Still she is the equivalent of Superman or All Might piss off of the equivalent of SHIELD, I am terrified and sad about her. (That a mom comments) I respect this story.
I remember seeing a political cartoon published during the Cuban Missile Crisis, with Uncle Sam looking at a haggard JFK and saying, “This is not the kind of job that preserves your youth, John.”
Hey Alex. I’m doing my best. Full-time comics and freelance isn’t easy to juggle and I do not want to put out half-effort work. I get that this is a long arc and it has taken a while. Believe me, I have learned a valuable lesson about long-form arcs, the work, and the audience. I don’t know that it will ever happen again.
Brian – Yes it’s a long Arc, but soooo worth the waiting. As normal people tend to forget that you are also human and have other needs before a “free” webcomic. Keep up the good work – miss seeing you on Twitch!
Oh man, THAT IS AWESOME!
Professor you in so much trouble…
Forget trouble. Is Matron looking for grandchild(ren) to be under her care? I’d sign up for that.
Total OP badass…
Panel three needs to be printed on special edition dinner plates, with the logo: “Matron says eat your vegetables!!”
Let’s Kickstart it.
So yes… NOT part of Olympus, and rightfully pissed AT Olympus.
But still a hero.
Besides Kris, Klaus and Brett (and Mrs Tucker), how much do we know of the Kringle lineage? Maybe he does have “badass telekinetic grandmother” in there somewhere…
Isn’t this just the supers equivalent of “You meet Elminster”?
And doesn’t everyone hate that sort of thing in D&D?

Maybe? But this is where we are. How about giving it a few and seeing it through to the end?

Just goes to show that some of the best stories come from the games we play around a table.
I think that’s a little unfair. It’s a lot smaller of a circle of supers, I imagine. Almost everyone runs inot SPier-Man or Supes eventually.
Holy typos, Batman.
They run into him too.
Anyone else’s internal stereo playing Bob Seger’s “Betty Lou’s Gettin’ Out Tonight?”
Feel better Brian!
I hope you are taking the time to recover and see the doctor. Get well soon, Brian!
Man, this is still super interesting, and I would love to know what the Deepstar Conquerer is! Hope you get better soon, Brian.
Ikr? When I hear “deepstar conqueror” I get images of Starro crossed with Darkseid. Probably off base, but fun to consider while poor Brian’s hopefully recovering from being sick.
I’d assume it’s what the Ulim were running from when we were given the setting info all the way back here:
https://d20monkey.com/comic/all-the-kings-horses-part-three/
Hope you feel better soon!
Wow. Do not mess with her. Definitely one of those moments where you’re simultaneously amazed and also terrified.
Too fast to be enamored to Matron, she is rude as female version of Vegeta.
I guess you’ll have to get over it, Juan.
I think there is a lot of history we don’t know about, Juan. And we may never find out ALL of it, but we might find out enough to explain some things.
So let’s cut Matron a little slack until we get more info. She might have a right to be vexed.

I think that fits quite well here.
Good lord, Matron is bad***. Cannot wait to see where this goes! Though at this rate it seems we won’t find out until 2019.

Everyone wants a badass telekinetic grandma, till the misbehaving begins and punishment needs to doled out (telekinetic spankings)
