All the Kings Horses: Part Sixty-Nine
Chapter: Season Eight
And with this strip, the Andromeda X arc comes to a close.
Some loved it, some hated it. It (like this entire series) was a labor of love for me, so if you dropped nice comments, emails, or tweets, thank you so much. It means a lot to me and  a little goes a long way.
His grandma is Blind Al? Awesome!
even better he made her the most powerful omega in Andromeda X
Yeah she is a badass awesome lady who fully deserves the honor of modeling the most powerful amazing super in the world.
As if we needed any confirmation of who Matron is based upon.
^^^ THIS. And that is so awesome. <3
I feel that this was a great arc that was a long time coming. I can’t wait to see what you have in the future, though I do know I wouldn’t, personally, mind seeing another CoC arc.
Keep up the good work!
I have literal tears in my eyes…damn it Nana!
Awesome arc, great development of Carlos…and is the drunkenness a new development for a character. Foreshadowing of something new?
I see the Matron similarity, but I also want a tiny Deadpool cameo because she also reminds me of Blind Al kinda…lol
But great work!
I can hear the SHHH. No no, I am fine” in my head, and it sounds just like my grandmother
WHAT SORCERY IS THIS!!
I loved this arc man, loved it
She has a lovely southern drawl in my head and I’m living for this.
Also, the fact that she’s encouraging him and wants to hear all about it. Eeeeee.
Carlos is very lucky, and i think his Nan would love his friends (Maybe hold off on the martinis tho trev)
Loved it. Looking forward to the fantasy but loved loved this.
I loved this arc.
also it is sweet that she is his hero
Awww, this so cute & heartwarming
OMG Nana <3
*wipes away tear*
This is a perfect way to end the arc, Brian.
This was one of your best stories yet.
It’s a great story. Thanks for that arc, Brian, and all of D20.
Bravo!
Arcs like this are why we come back, and why we don’t mind so much when strips don’t come out for a while. The stories are great and you have a wonderful way of helping us connect with and really care about the characters. Keep it up man!!!
Brett’s comment of “I want Matron to be *my* grandma!” means so much more now! This has been a great arc. It makes me wish my group could get their butts together to pull off a successful superhero campaign.
I don’t post here (at all), but I see all these folks stating it was a great arc. Make sure you go support Brian on his Patreon… Every dollar helps, believe me. As a fellow creator (and a supporter of Brian on Patreon), I enjoy his stories, and am really looking forward to more.
The whole run rocked! Keep up the awesome work!
This arc was always fantastic, and I love that final icing on the cake of Carlos getting to have a great session everyone loved, and then get to tell his grandmother about it.
Fantastic, other Brian! Thank you for your work, your art, your stories.
I’m tearing up at this. This arc was amazing and I’m so glad you wrote and illustrated it for us.
welp this was a nice arc it was interesting to see carlos get some more character development.
That was an epic arc, for sure! And if Carlos is as good a storyteller for his nan as he was a GM for his group, even her sightless eyes would take in all the detail. Beautiful stuff, Brett!
Sorry Brian, I meant Brian! And I can’t edit that out!
This arch was amazing can’t wait to see what’s next!
Loved the entire store. Especially the ending. My grandmother bought me some of my first gaming books when I was a kid. 🙂
You’ve come a long way, Brian, and I think this is your best work yet. I loved this arc, both the drawing and the writing. The characters feel like old friends, in game and out of game.
What a wonderful way to end the arc. Well done.
Is it getting dusty in here, or is it just me? I really enjoyed this story, Brian. And very much look forward to the next, whatever it is. I do hope we come back to Andromeda X again someday.
That was a great ending to the arc. I wish my first game had gone as well as Carlos’s had.
Brian,
Did you PLAN to end on 69?!?!?
Love you iSon!
Mama Anna
A happy ending. 🙂
That was the perfect ending to an amazing story. Loved it.
*sniffle*
*vigorous applause*
Loved every page of this arc! Please tell me there is an Andromeda X book like we got for Karthun in the future?
I guess this OUR post-credit scene!
Really, this whole arc was very good work.
Brian, I have been reading this comic damn near since the beginning, though I rarely comment here. The haters sometimes draw me out- and so I have to say that I loved this arc. There are people who give you flak, but man, I have faith in you. You tell the stories you want to tell. They are all from a wonderful mind, from a man whose creativity is a pleasure to share in.
That’s you, Brian. Your writing is a gift, and we are but your audience. We do not get to make those decisions for you. I have loved every story you have written, and while there have been individual panels or pages I didn’t appreciate or I disliked, that is a matter of taste, not a reflection of you. I have enjoyed the evolution of the comic immensely; I look forward to more heroes, more Karthun, more tales of adventure and daring and romance. More Christmas.
I will continue to read this comic no matter what, and I wanted you to know that.
Thank you Brian.
Great story. I was just going down all the positive comments here and wishing the interface was one where I could just click “LIKE” or “DITTO” on all of them.
You sometimes say “labor of love” almost like you have to apologize for it. Hell, no. That’s what art is about, and if you’re doing what you want, and it comes out the way you wanted it to, you’ve succeeded, and it doesn’t matter if the entire world loves it, or just one guy in North Dakota.
Keep up the good work.
DITTO
I have but one complaint for this arc:
It seems Nana’s second speech bubble in panel three is missing a “to”.
Besides that, it was beautiful, well written, and really conveys the fears of new GMs. I liked Carlos when he was introduced, but now I love him. I look forward to seeing his character grow even more!
Personally, I loved this arc. The Superhero genre is usually fairly low on my list of favourite genres (I do like it, just not as much as others).
But this one was good. Took the storyline in a direction I wasn’t expecting at the start, and the journey down that path was epic 😀
Also glad to see Carlos show his true self and get the appreciation he deserved for his efforts.
(Hope Larry goes easy on the poor guy though, hehe).
As for the haters… They’re just jealous that their own weak imaginations can’t come up with anything better. Their pathetic egos need to build themselves up by knocking someone better than them down, makes them feel like they have some kind of power and purpose.
Just delete their comments without any response, that takes away the only weapon they have against you, denies them the reaction they crave, and they’ll hate that more than anything! 😉
It’s great that Carlos has someone who he can talk to about his anxieties and mayhap bounce his story ideas off of. She genuinely cares about his fantasy world and his friendships, if for no other reason than the fact that they’re important to him.
Of course, there is already one blind player in the group. Wonder if Nana would be interested in getting out of the house and hanging with some young folks – other than her Tuesday night swing dance class.
This was my favorite arc, not just in this webcomic, but of any comic I’ve seen in many, many years of read webcomics. You had an interesting world I’m dying to learn more about. It explained it’s setting perfectly, without having to pedantically exposit every little detail. It showed the commradaire of friends sitting around a table together.
I really enjoyed it. Thank you.
The ‘M’ shaped pin on grandma’s lapel while wearing an all gray outfit in the old photo was a lovely touch too.
I have been enjoying the storyline. I keep forgetting that reading web comics is often more social than passive, because you can leave feedback directly with the creators, more so than comics in newspapers. It reminds me of the zaniness of the Trinity game we’re playing now with some Mutants and Masterminds sessions from years ago.
This was a great story and some great art to go with it. Keep it up.
WOW I was a big fan who hadn’t checked in in ~1 year and returned to find myself totally engrossed by this arc. A++ 🙂
So when is the Andromeda X RPG worldbook coming out?
Brian, I’ve said this before and I will say it again.
YOU. ARE. AMAZING!
This will always be my favorite web comic, you bring deep storytelling, multilevel characters whose back stories are worth reading, a mix of RL and in game visualization, and dick jokes!
I absolutely loved this arc, I love every arc! You take me such awesome places!
I would really enjoy seeing the Garden again!
Lots of love and caring!
~Me Too~
I’ll admit, it has been a rough day emotionally, but that brought some extra moisture to my eye.
Carlos knocked it out of the park and this story arc put me in love with D20 Monkey all over again. <3
Brian, I really enjoyed the superhero arc as well. Since City of Heroes shutdown, I’ve had a superhero-hole in my life that other stories haven’t been able to fill like yours have. love the plot twist at the end as well. Keep it up!
Man this arc was great. The last panel with the photo… so good. Hits you in the feels.
So I just revisited this arc because of playing a deep green game. And i forgot how insanely fucking good it was.
I want so bad to be able to be a player at carlos’ table like holy shit.
Honestly all of the gms but carlos has a special place (esp cause ive been playing so much high fantasy)
