All the Kings Horses: Part Nineteen
Chapter: Season Eight
MEGA-UPDATE-ONE:Â
Hey everyone. I just wanted to post a quick message and let you know that I have not died or anything. I know posts are a little delayed at the moment and that is because it turns out that I am dealing with a REALLY nasty respiratory infection (they think it was bronchitis that went untreated that got worse). However, I have hardcore meds now and I am taking *grumble* a few days off *grumble* to rest up, but I will be back very, very soon.
My sincere apologies for the delay on your content
Brian
Dig it.
This loaded, like, one millimeter at a time because of my wifi quality, but hot damn, it was worth it. What a gorgeous page!!
i dig it
It has been most thoroughly dug.
This reminds me of a character I played in a superhero game with a few friends in college, he was basically a bard whose powers worked based on the song that was playing. Rock songs buffed the party and made attacks stronger, mellow jazz could heal and calm down enemies, and classical music provided illusions and charisma buffs. Was a ton of fun to play and I see Brett’s having fun too
It is a well-known fact that Brian thinks those of a bardic calling are underrepresented in the world.
It is a well known fact that those of the Bardic persuasion are both underrepresented AND underappreciated.
That is only because it is, apparently, a little known fact that they who can be minstrel and jester both, are scary awesome.
I played a bard in a superhero game who was a villain called, “Shaker” His songs created different levels of earthquakes, depending on the music you had different levels, intensities, and distances that the quakes could be felt. Also if he actually added his voice to the music it amplified the effects by a magnitude of 1d8 to the area damage.
it is a well known fact that those of the Bardic Persuasion have now been thrust into the limelight by the glorious virtues of Scanlan “Burt Reynolds” Shorthalt, He who is ALL THAT IS MAN and notably the guy who WON HIS CAMPAIGN.
you leave, when burt reynolds TELLS you to leave!
A friend was DMing “BESM”, and I made a kinda-bard kid, called Battery.
He had a rythmic song to heal…
… and a hard battery solo to drain stats from the enemy to himself XD
I’ve got a plan for a bard whose spells are Simon and Garfunkel songs. All I need is a DM who’ll let me bring my guitar.
I love how the background of the middle panel is universe/stars, like his shirt.
I need this as a poster
They’ll Nova forget this.
Disco Nova is epic as expected, but I can’t help loving Bronco in her panel – swollen eye and what looks kinda like terminal acne from all the blaster hits. She looks like hell – epic hell. Bruiser heroines rarely look worse than “artfully disheveled”, but the realism* of the character, from design to injuries, are what continues to endear her to me.
*I know, realism is a bad word to describe anything in a story-within-a-story, much less superheroes. Verisimilitude, perhaps? The appearance of realism, without necessarily being that real.
King Cronos must have either hella lot of savings, or some really lucrative revenue streams, because damn, payroll’s gotta be painful.
Maybe he skimps on dental?
They rarely make it past the probationary period to get the pay bump and benefits package.
Maybe superscience has created easy automization, creating a deficiency in blue-collar labour. If being a minion/henchman is the only job you qualify for, what can you do?
He’s King Chronos, from Greek for “Time”. He has access to unimaginable revenue streams if he can travel the Winds of Time. He doesn’t bother robbing banks, his crimes are of a completely different order. Like Doctor Doom or even better, Kang the Conqueror…
On another note, magnificent page Brian!!!
There are comics where I read the latest page the go looking for the ability to up vote. This whole arc has been like that. Good going Brian
I hope we get a more indepth description of their powers, I’m intrigued by Disco Nova the most.
So that is where the “Nova” part of “Disconova” comes from?
I, too, dig it.
Holy crap do I dig it.
really catching the great times of gaming
#bardlife
DISCO LANTERN!!!!!
This is why Disco will never die… ‘cos anything that tries to kill it will probably end up like those guys! 😉
Dig it!
I’m making a new bard. They will have this kind of power.
That First Panel Brian….awesome. I also want that jacket !
IKR?
ThinkGeek has a skirt that would work, but I don’t have the legs to pull it off.
http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/jhsu/ – the photos don’t do it justice.
I have the legs….just will have to shave them. Still want the cosmic jacket…..thanks for the link…good present material
SOLID!
Can you dig it? I can dig it! Ha! Sorry…made me think of ‘Grazin’ in the Grass’…I’ll go now…
Oh man, your sickness sounds a lot like my situation for the past month… Had the flu, turned into bronchitis that has now lasted 3 weeks with no sign of improvement. And now I suspect I have pleurisy from all of the coughing. 🙁 Get well soon. also, glad i finally caught up on this webcomic. I was keeping up with it for a few months and then got lazy and fell behind on literally all of my webcomics.
Now I’m reminded of my genderbent Nathan Explosion Bard who used Perform (dance) to headbang and whirlwind. Trying to do the voice killed my throat though.
Hope you get better soon Brian!
Can never find a Cleric when you need one! 🙁
Take care of yourself, Brian!
I’ve heard alcohol helps, but maybe that’s just my answer to everything…
Rest and heal well, Brian. This flu and cold season has been bad. Just take it easy for a while.
“Send good vibes from France”
Take your time, may I suggest eating french food?
Cause a good food is a good remedy!
NOW EAT YOUR FRIED FROG!
Hope you get better soon. I know how much respiration infections can suck – just rest and take care of yourself for now.
If the story has to be paused I am glad it’s paused on something that is this awesome
Oh man, everyone i know has been getting hit with the same sort of bug; best wishes and get well soon man!
Thanks for letting us know about the delay. Feel better soon.
Hot damn, that first panel is gorgeous.
I hope you get well soon Brian. This is shaping up to be one of your best stories yet.
If you’re good at Chemistry you can turn Meth back into REALLY GOOD Sudafed! Feel better!
So, I stopped reading D20Monkey for a few months due to being too busy, and coming back to it now, and seeing this out of context, I am both confused and intrigued. I will report back when I’ve caught up.
I’m now caught up, and I absolutely love this.
aw man, get better soon! We can wait (and anyone who can’t wait can get a diaper and a soother to silence their cake hole. On me!) Ain’t nobody gonna spontaneously combust because you can’t update.
Well, that was DEFINITELY a Ballroom Blitz.
