Innsmouth Garden Society: Prologue
Chapter: Season Three
Here we go. The Innsmouth Garden Society story arc begins here.
I love the Call of Cthulhu RPGs and I’ve had the idea for this arc floating around for a little while now. Before jumping in, I wanted to get  a few things established and make room for what you see here. The majority of this arc takes place in-game with only passing references to anything at the table itself.
This arc also introduces Amy, another lady gamer from the area. I’ll be curious to see how she is received as more of her personality rolls out.
Brian
This comic is 7 shades of awesome.
“Pre-rolled options”… Perhaps it’s the mental scarring that I have from playing under a completely horrible GM, but pre-gens always immediately trigger my alarm bells.
I vote mental scarring. I wouldn’t be surprised for Sam to have at least a little bit of know-how regarding a CoC game, even if he hasn’t played or GM’d it before.
Also, not sure if Amy is a kinda hyper/rather excitable person, or just nervous about Sam joining the game. Of course, if -I- was Sam, I’d be the nervous one. Something about a group of girls openly telling me that they’d prefer to have me join their Ladies-only group instead of another female should be sending out screeching alarms. Maybe there’s an ulterior motive, such to set Sam up with one of them or someone else they know? Would help give a reason for Amy to be nervous over Sam joining.
Oh look, I’m over-thinking things again. >.>
Or maybe he’s just the only one they trust to not be a jerk in a room full of ladies?
this is call of Chthulu if your alarm bells aren’t ringing already you are in trouble
I would do terrible things to get my hands on a “free cthugs,” shirt.
Would you go as far as to buy a green t-shirt and have it printed?
I’m fairly possitive Sam’s getting laid sometime soon.
But you screamed and fainted…. Ah Sam, stay manly!
I’m liking where this is going — keep it up!
Very excited about this one. For reasons.
Sam starts off the way most of my Call of Cthulhu characters end up: on the floor, dazed, not having any idea what’s going on, and on the brink of a psychotic break.
I’a Cthulhu! I’a Dagon!
If my character is fated to go insane and die a horrible fate, I think I’d rather have a pre-gen than spend the time to make my own character.
Where are these women? My scanners are not detecting any within 100miles of my current vicinity. Show me the women!!
Oh man, I love me some CoC! This arc is going to be fun. 😀
I approve of everything in this comic, especially the bowler hat and eyepatch.
Oooh, CoC. I love this game to bits and having it in the comic will be so awesome. Last panel: made of win.
Although I agree about pre-rolled character. I immediately went aargh, but I hope the ladies know what they are doing.
I have never played CoC but I must say the last panel has me very intrigued 🙂
Also Mel does not look very pleased to see Sam joining the group. She looks nervous or just feeling awkward about it all.
“Free Cthugs” makes the whole strip worthwhile.
Buncha women.. Ladies only group… all of em nervous as heck…
5 options.
1. Setting up Sam (in any way)
2. Sam appears ‘non-douchebag/manly’ enough for them to allow
3. They require a male for alternative to gameplay (and also set up)
4. Sam is screwed in both literal and figurative
5. Sam’s getting that shirt.
Yay! Caught up!
Brian, great comic, great artwork, great everything. Happy to add you to my ever-expanding roster of webcomics!
Got totally caught up today on your comic. Love it! Been DM’ing on and off for several years and your comic got me all fired up again. Also, just played my first CoC game the other day. Super excited to see how Sam handles it. Keep up the great work Brian!
I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a story arch since I heard Superman was going to die.
Damnit… I want to play almost any RPG…
So much awesome in this strip. If I were Sam I’d be rather honoured that they chose me to join thier all girl’s group. Especially considering the air of negativity that, unfortunately, the male gamers in their town seem to have towards them, that’s a big sign of respect on their part.
Still enjoying the archive dive. And I especially love the Innsmouth Garden Society story, but something is bothering me. How did we go from Jeannie calling Mel a bitch and a harpy to “Oh, we’ve been gaming for months”? Did I miss something?
I’ve gamed with more than one person whom I didn’t like. As long as all parties can stay in character, it can be rather fun. Also I think (I may be wrong, only the author knows for sure) but Jennie expressed anger at Mel for the way she handled Samxs crush on her and her boyfriend being a bully.
Just when I thought I couldn’t love this comic more it goes up a level!
I’ve never played CoC, but I love this set of story arcs (yeah, I’m rerunning the archives for about the third time.) I found this comic through Zombie Roomie and added it in to the list of my reading.
Oh, *hell* yes, all-woman dnd group *and* Call of Cthulhu?? Where the hell are you in real life and when can I join?
